Apparently while CT was doing his interview about his simple ways he was wearing a polo shirt from Harlan's yacht with the logo HC on the shirt, as if everyone would be too stupid to figure that out? This SOB is despicable and should be removed from the court, his wife should be indicted for J6 as well.

Clarence Thomas has always been a lying misogynist- we learned that from Anita Hill during his confirmation hearing.

Apparently Justice Thomas' excuse is "Well, I was told there was no problem with accepting my friend's hospitality (or words to that effect)". Wonder who gave him those pearls of wisdom. Also, as far as I know Chief Justice Roberts hasn't said anything about this whole mess. It is the court that he presides over after all that Clarence Thomas has disgraced.

Well, interestingly enough, the court has recently - completely by coinkydink, I tells ya - adopted rules that make all of Clarence's "fun" things he has to report now. Roberts undoubtedly got wind of the Pro Publica investigation.

Justice Roberts' silence tells us everything we need to know about this Supreme Court.

However until we get a congress with the numbers required to override a veto or filibuster these types of scandals will endure.

There is something wrong with our system of justice when the Supreme Court does not follow the laws they must enforce on the rest of society. I also read Chief Justice Roberts said Congress doesn't have the authority to regulate the Supreme Court. He may have been appointed for life but he is still a government employee. Perhaps it is time to withhold their salaries until they begin to police the actions of his fellow Justices. We need term limits on Supreme Court Justices. They are getting too political for their own good. Either they follow the law or they are not fit to serve as Justices over our great country.

Actually the court was closely regulated by Congress from 1790 through to the late 70s. There's plenty of precedent for cutting their staffs in half and such things.

I didn't know that. However, with a narrow majority in the Senate and no help expected from the house of insurrection, I doubt anything will happen.

True dat. though Chief Shithead Roberts must have gotten wind of the Pro Publica investigation, since they have just rolled out "rules" that say Clarence now has to report all his "fun" stuff.

When George H.W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to the S.C., a reporter asked Bush if he selected Clarence because he was an African American. Bush responded, “How dare you ask me that question! Hrumppp! Of course not! I simply nominated the best man for the job.”

I didn’t remember till reading the recent explosive story about gifts that Thomas had exactly one year of judicial experience when nominated and of course there was Anita Hill’s testimony that gripped the nation. Bush fabricated an out-and-out lie and Hill told the truth.

Thanks for all you said, especially about his pal Lee Atwater's disgusting exploitation of Willie Horton. GHWB's phony monikers of noblesse oblige and aristocrat were a joke and he was as complicit as a lot of elected officials in gutter politics.

No colleagues and clerks knew where he and his wife were off to on extended vacations for the last 20 years?

No greetings upon his return, “Enjoy your Walmart parking lot hobnob,” Clarence?”

MAGA has a captive Supreme Court, created by dark money donors and the Federalist Society. The Roberts Court is a disgrace, and the biggest disgrace is Clarence Thomas. Joe Biden was the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee when Anita Hill spoke against Thomas. Biden ended up voting against Thomas and has acknowledged his mistakes, but Hill did not the serious hearing she deserved. And here we are.

I remember when the Senate confirmed Thomas. I was at the Treasury Dept (IRS) and just remember all the women screaming about "how could Judiciary do that!". I also remember the story of Linda (Johnson) Robb berating her husband Chuck for voting to confirm Thomas.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse calls the Supreme Court a "captured court" - captured by the Federalist Society and billionaires who support its right-wing ideology. Sen. Whitehouse seems to be one of only a very few members of Congress who are interested in following the money that has the judiciary bought and paid for.

Along with every other female Hillary Clinton supporter in 2016, I was figuratively screaming at the top of my lungs that the Supreme Court and our right to bodily autonomy was on the ballot. And, like every other female Hillary Clinton supporter in 2016, I was told by the Bernie fanatics that I was being hysterical (among other things). I will never forgive those idiots for this debacle.

According to ProPublica’s reporting (who broke this latest Clarence Thomas story), strong indications are that not only did Thomas commit a massive ethical lapse, he violated Federal ethics law. Trust is a bedrock of democracy. Thomas’ luxury trips paid for by a billionaire do nothing but undermine and erode that trust in a major democratic institution, the SCOTUS. Trust is like a “bank”, it takes a long time to build up “deposits”, but “withdrawals” happen very quickly. Thomas’ actions create a “run” on the trust bank of democracy.

Hmmm. We heard for years from conservatives how they HATED "activist judges", yet in recent years, we've seen abysmally bad legal decisions by conservative judges (the one you reference by Judge Kacsmaryk, but also the terrible decision by the Supreme in Dobbs, not to mention the asinine decisions by Trump-appointed judges Kathryn Mizelle, U.S.D.J. (ending the federal mask mandate on planes and in airports), and Aileen Cannon, U.S.D.J. (interjecting herself into case of Trump's absconding with classified documents from the White House)). Conservatives are overjoyed with those decisions.

Huh. It's almost like what really upset them was that they just disagreed with any decisions that didn't go their way........................

Clarence Thomas was in the seminary with a friend many years ago. Sure wish he had stayed there, then the Catholic Church would have to deal with him....oh, wait. Considering what the Church has let it priests get away with, maybe not so much.

Not only do the Thomas's snuggle up to MAGA and unabashedly accept gifts, but they do it all in smug, overt, sanctimonious fashion, demonstrating wholesale contempt for every thread with which this country was woven.

We are, at this juncture, half reality-based, half utter distorted sham; time to reconcile our disparate halves and render ourselves whole.

We get there by standing in solidarity, appropriately dissenting and consenting in turn.
