Character counts
PLUS: I'll be joining today's edition of "The Jim Acosta Show" at 4:20 pm
There are many things to talk and write about today in our broken land, which has been consumed by vitriol, delusion, lies and ignorance.
Many things could be said about a hundred different abuses of law, corrupt acts, or sheer insanity committed by the Trump gang, which is growing more confidant in its overreach with each passing day.
There is much to be said about Donald Trump and the misfits, extremists and criminals whom he has curated and set loose around the country.
Yet, none of them supersede the importance of discussing the most uncomfortable realities of the moment, which start with a few questions that must be asked.
Why can’t the Democratic party defeat Donald Trump and MAGA?
Why does the Democratic party remain less popular than Donald Trump and MAGA?
Both things are true, and yet saying them out loud angers a great many Democrats who remain deeply enthralled and lemming loyal to failed Democratic congressional leaders, who repeatedly place their self-interests ahead of their constituents, party and country.
The price of their political failure has been the arrival of the most immense constitutional crisis since the American Civil War where masked men have license to shoot a priest in the head with a pepper ball — simply for praying:
The price of the political failure is the collapsing American republic that is being murdered by the Trump fascists.
Democrats must win elections.
Period.
The most important political office held by a Democrat in the United States of America is the governorship of California, the 4th largest economy in the world.
Opposition to Donald Trump will always be anchored in California, and the governor of California must be a competent, thoughtful, able and serious person. The Golden State has been fortunate over the last quarter century to be led by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom. Term limits mean that Gavin Newsom’s term ends in 2026, and there will be a new California governor. It will most likely be a Democrat, who will instantly became a national figure.
Here is Democratic congresswoman Katie Porter, who is running for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in California:
And here:
I have a question.
What if she were to win a California Democratic primary?
What would the implications be in the fight against American fascism if the alternative is Katie Porter?
There are some exceptional public servants in the United States Congress, but also some exceptional whack jobs.
Katie Porter is one of them.
Our politics is broken because so many broken people are in politics.
They exist in both parties, and the reality is that the two parties cannot maintain similar standards.
It is fine for the fascists to have no standards, but it is not okay for the Democrats, who must insist on the very highest.
Churchill understood the concept. He once exhorted his countrymen to resistance by saying of the Nazi enemy, “You do your worst. We will do our best.”
Democrats cannot confront the worst and most dangerous movement in the United States since secession with niceties, delusion, entitlement — or Katie Porter.
California Democrats have a big responsibility on their shoulders.
Donald Trump stepping on our throats is quite enough, without having Katie Porter assist him with the practice of contempt, disdain and rudeness towards normalcy, decency and respect.
Journalism is under siege, but it isn’t dead yet — at least not in Sacramento.
I’m so sick of these people that there aren’t words I can think to say beyond “vote them out.”
Character counts.

Well that was certainly a self inflicted wound, possibly a fatal one. There were things I once liked about Katie Porter, but, this is unacceptable.
Hmmm. I don't know, Steve. This looks more like two cherry-picked videos being used to undermine someone's credibility as a candidate. I would be interested in reading some analysis of her and her candidacy instead of seeing brief videos in which she acts in a way that doesn't flatter her or her candidacy. Using those videos as you did and name-calling her is something I can see the GOP doing to undermine her. I am very concerned to see you doing it.
