Well that was certainly a self inflicted wound, possibly a fatal one. There were things I once liked about Katie Porter, but, this is unacceptable.

Katie Porter is the kind of out-spoken and knowledgeable Democrat we need to support. She was an outstanding representative in the House. She would make a great president. Can Steve or any one of us say our nerves are not frayed over the horrible situation in which we find ourselves? Can he or any one of us say we have not shouted out in anger and regretted it later?

Once again, Steve seems to place as much blame on Democrats as Republicans for the horrors of the Trump/Maga/Christian takeover of our nation. He is wrong. It was Republicans who did that to us. It was "men" like Ken Copeland, Lindsey Graham, SAMUEL ALITO, CLARENCE THOMAS, Ted Cruz, Grover Norquist, RONALD REAGAN and on and on.

Every time Steve writes, "The price of their (Democrats) political failure has been the arrival of the most immense constitutional crisis since the American Civil War where masked men have license to shoot a priest in the head with a pepper ball..." HE WEAKENS OUR CAUSE. WE MUST TELL HIM THAT!

Sadly these videos will hurt her. California will need a governor that can handle the pressure without melting down. These videos will be played over and over. I agree Steve seems to blame Democrats relentlessly.

I do not think she melted down. And it’s good to see somebody that will talk back to the person in this modern era when the process is so corrupt as well.

They should not hurt her for the reasons I stated above. It is likely every politician has occasionally "lost it." To indict Democrats for "losing their tempers" and increasing the spread of that slip does OUR CASE NO GOOD. PERIOD.

I have seen that video before; however, it doesn't show what happened, before Porter refused to be interviewed further. It didn't show the Katie Porter, that I have seen many times on TV. Katie Porter usually has a cool, rational head on her shoulders. I personally like Katie Porter, she is a single mom, who knows the struggles of a working mom; she is smart, she knows economics like the back of her hand; and she speaks in a way that a normal American, like me, can understand what she is saying! She would have made a great senator; but she was up against Adam Schiff. I think that she would make a great governor; her knowledge in economics alone, make her qualified for the job! However, because she is a woman, in the Democratic Party, she will be a target of Trump and all the woman-haters and Democratic-hating followers of MAGA! But Katie Porter is a tough cookie, and I am sure that she would be able to handle it!

Donna, I agree. And, she has repeatedly stood up to the Magats in Congress, always backing up what she said with statistics, charts, graphs etc.

Hmmm. I don't know, Steve. This looks more like two cherry-picked videos being used to undermine someone's credibility as a candidate. I would be interested in reading some analysis of her and her candidacy instead of seeing brief videos in which she acts in a way that doesn't flatter her or her candidacy. Using those videos as you did and name-calling her is something I can see the GOP doing to undermine her. I am very concerned to see you doing it.

That’s it? She loses it twice— once with a staffer and once with CBS, and now she’s dead to you? I think you’re the one who’s off the reservation, Steve, not her. (No, I’m not anti-Indigenous). Has she abandoned her policies? Has she embraced MAGA? Did she pee in your soup? Where’s the beef?

Dems are bitched about for being feckless wimps not standing up for themselves or more important for their constituents. Now they are too bitchy. I am so sick of hearing about how this is all Dems fault. And not just on The Warning but mainly here on The Warning. Every time it seems like we are moving past the part where we could have done better, here we are again. Ok yes it’s all our fault. Does that make people happy? And maybe she is not a good candidate. Can we now focus on those who show promise? Showing repubs we are divided doesn’t seem like much of a strategy either.

Steve likes to quote famous people. Does he know what Patrick Henry meant when he said "United we stand. Divided we fall"?

If Trump's opponents can't stand together, how can we possibly overcome the MAGA monolith? Schumer is not a strong leader but he is no snivelling ass-kissing Lindsey Graham or Marco Rubio. It is the three Democratic nominees on SCOTUS who oppose Trump's dictatorship and Project 2025, not Clarence Thomas or any of the other five GOP nominees, including Samuel Alito, the man for whom STEVE SCHMIDT played a key role in gaining Senate confirmation to SCOTUS. I know he regrets that now. But that is a hell of a lot bigger character flaw than losing one's temper.

Thanks for the info Anthony. I am always so impressed with the calm, levelheaded and knowledgeable Steve but so sick of this side of his politics. I remember watching him years ago on MSNBC when he was a republican strategist. I liked him even though I disagreed with him. I love what he’s doing with the Save America Movement. I think it is the most powerful organized group out there doing the real work. But this…it is not motivating at all.

So besides these videos, why are you calling Katie Porter a whack job? She may indeed be one but it seems that every woman who runs for high office has a video of her yelling at a staff member. I guess men never yell at staff members. We have enough whack jobs in office here in Texas that I don’t tend to keep up with whack jobs in other states.

Go a bit slower with Democrat dislike, we have Abigail Spanberger

in Virginia running for Govenor and Good one in New Jersey, And there are we have good one's congress and the Senate. Trump just came with dictator chaos and caused upside down chaos; we are getting stronger as time goes on. To me your realism is like Katie, you have some anger issues but that's your job I Quess. Do some interviews with some Dems you like so we can see up close how they are doing? We are all pissed at Dems for not being more upfront in Trumps face, is where I'm critical, at the moment.

I am no fan of Kamala Harris but I have voted for her for AG, Senate, and President. I was happy that she bowed out of the Governor's race. Well today, I sent Ms. Harris a message asking her to reconsider the Governor's race. Harris has the temperament, the experience, and the chops to lead California.

Katie Porter is unfit and does not have the temperament. If her behavior in the interview was not enough, then one should delve into the restraining orders that she has sought against her romantic partners. Anyone with a life that messy is not fit to lead.

We have got to get out of the weeds! Is the candidate qualified or not for the office that they are running for!

BTW: Since the beginning of time, women have been criticized by their behavior; but the men, although also criticized at times by even worse behavior, seem to escape time after time again! We are all humans, and being humans, no one is perfect! If someone digs deep enough to another's past-they will certainly find something that is not pure and good, in some people's opinions!

Donna, we have to get our country back. Believe me, I would like to see a woman president and I voted for Hillary and Kamala. They were not perfect but they were good candidates running against the devil incarnate that half of the voters in this country support. But to save our country, it has got to be a white guy.

I say this cringing. I celebrated and felt vindicated when Ms. magazine published its first issue in 1972. I sat rapt in the auditorium at Temple Medical School listening to Gloria Steinem in 1974. I passed the Bar when women constituted 9% of the profession.

I have to disagree with you on Katie Porter. She is one of the sharpest minds with regard to the economy and actually understanding how to convey what CEOs and the billionaires and the corporations are doing to America. She is very similar to a young Elizabeth Warren.

She is young and can get some maturation overtime, but we need somebody bright that understands finances And also will be aggressive going against Maga. I believe she will be aggressive. I saw nothing in there that said she will cow tow to Maga or do what they want. And she comes out of a far right Republican district that she won multiple times.

This seems like a few small videos trying to sink a very intelligent, sharp intense and extremely bright woman, so I wouldn’t pay too much attention to this.

Also, if there was a guy saying these things, I don’t think anybody would care

Mo Khan, I agree with you 100%. Steve is bitching like an angry dad with a very bright, outspoken daughter who failed to keep her hands folded and stay quiet. What did she do that was so awful and so unprecedented? By calling Katie a whack job – in the best misogynist tradition – I assume that Steve has never in his entire life gotten angry and yelled at someone. If he has, what names should he be called? What opportunities should be instantly ruled out and withheld from him? Maybe he likes polite, dignified, wimpy Democrats who let the Republican trash roll right over them. I don't.

I watch those videos and she just seemed like somebody that would talk back to the press when needed and get her video taped properly.

She is one of the brightest minds out there extremely sharp and could take down Republicans billionaires and CEOs in a second in the Congress. She ran she has run out of one of the most conservative districts in California and one multiple years in a row until Maga went full Maga fascist.

I think we need someone more like her that can talk back to the imbeciles around her and try and move California forward. Importantly, she actually understands finance some money studied with Elizabeth Warren and actually has fight in her and we need somebody with belt with fight in their belly that we talk back to Republicans or anyone else that waste our time.

I am not sure if Steve knows something more than I have seen out of Katie Porter over many years, but I have always been very impressed with her and I believe she’s somebody that could be perfect governor and this looks to me like a hit job going against a womanwith silliness they always used to go against a woman. Mo,

I’ve seen the same as you have in her over the years. What gave me pause and motivated my analysis was her remark that she didn’t need any Republican votes and her unwillingness to field follow-up questions. Both irrational thinking for an experienced politician running for the top job of the 5th largest economy in the world, and the 2nd largest state in the union. Could it be a hit job, I can’t say, however, if I were her I would rethink all of it and craft public remarks to clean it up.

I am very happy that this came when it did. It was obvious to anyone who was paying any attention that she is an atrocious candidate; and I am saying this as a person who supports many of her policies. Democrats cannot win by putting up candidates who remind voters of the arrogant teachers who berated them and gave them bad grades. And I say this as a professor who is the son of high school teacher. She needs to be drubbed in the primaries; we need a charismatic, competent, politically savvy, tough as nails leader.

Respectfully Steve, I think everyone should consider the gendered thinking in these selected videos. We have all had frustrating moments. If she were a male politician, everyone would think he’s tough and move on.

When Pelosi was speaker, a man I know passed her in a hotel lobby surrounded by her security, she didn’t greet him, and he surmised that she seems like such a bitch…I asked him if he would have thought the same about Mitch McConnell? …it was a quiet moment

Society can be so reactionary to women, unconsciously, myself included. I discounted Elizabeth Warren as a presidential candidate because of her tone, but when I looked at her positions and really *heard* her I felt ashamed.
