For the life of me, I cannot figure out this rudderless DeSantis campaign.

If he wanted to show strength, he should have immediately called Trump a Yankee who doesn't belong in Florida the first moment Trump attacked him.

He should have called him a loser, that the Republican Party is done with, and he should have ended the speech by ordering Trump to leave Mar A Lago (because it's not written in the codes that he can live there).

But Ron is only strong enough to attack Disney or berate kids in public.

You left out threatening to build a prison right outside Mar-a-Lago.

Yes, if the GOP had any vision, Liz would be running for 2024 with Kinzinger (maybe, maybe not) as VP. Nope -they want to fight and be victims.

“These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they do, and one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you!” Ron De Sanctimonious new campaign theme song. Kinda catchy isn’t it?

He’s soft. He has soft pudgy pudding fingers, his white go-go boots--Wellington does not make white boots---are soft. His political ad treads softly on his tough MAGA opponent. He’s conservatively moving forward and testing the waters. I don’t think he can swim with the big fish and he knows that too.

He sure as hell can’t swim in those damn boots!

Good to hear you are focusing on him. He is a very dangerous politician for Florida and our country. Please keep an eye on him and keep the reality of who he really is on him. If he gets in power you can see where he is headed. Just look at Florida. No freedom, just smoke and mirrors. Authoritarian government and no way to pull out of it with his gerrymandering. He’s well funded and dangerous

He will never get the urban center votes. I don’t see how he can, or any extreme Republican can win in 2024 unless they are able to ramp up cheating.

Expand full comment

The answer is they are not really able to win, but they sure as hell know how to work the Electoral College. They've also gaslit everyone to think we are not really a democracy, but a republic.

Agree, however there are limits, even for cheaters.

You are correct in all your assessments of Ron. He is weak and thin-skinned. It is evident by the animosity he has shown towards Disney, Florida's biggest employer. He has made the calculation that alienating Disney for speaking out about his policies is a fight worth having. Yes, Disney will not walk away from their multi-billion dollar place in Florida. However, they are fighting back by changing their management structure so DeSantis can not have an equal seat at the table. I believe Disney's next move if DeSantis keeps interfering in operations is to move their board to California where his interference will not have an impact. DeSantis wants what Trump had and that is a shot at sitting behind the resolute desk of the oval office. Unfortunately that will never happen because of his partisan politics and his hateful policies.

All dictators and despots need a corrupt courts and followers in order to thrive. Hitler had his, excuse my words, Hitler had his pet jew, Erhard Milch. Now the white christian national party has their house nig***, in Clarence Thomas. The difference of Milch and Thomas is one was bought with the lives of his family and the other was bought on the slave market for money and privileges. I will leave up to you who is worse for I have already decided for myself. Unlike Milch, Thomas surrounds himself in world that hates him so much that they will use his greed against him in the end. Milch was a Nazi and had a brilliant mind for all things war and his knowledge was used with his acknowledgement and cooperation. Thomas has been bought for far less and his knowledge is being used to foment policies which will end the Great American Experience if we let it. History repeats itself when lessons are not learned or if they are forgotten. Stand up to the corruption in this country before it is too late.

DeSantis, by all appearances, does not seem to grasp that Disney is a multinational corporation. They have many avenues they can take. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this battle, when historically you are talking about the party of big business.

Hell, if he can’t beat Mickey in his home state with the power of his legislature behind him, how can he expect to last even through the first round in a fight with the twice impeached, criminally charged Orange Guy?

He's not going to win against Disney. Not gonna happen when you fill your administration with apparatchiks and mangy dogs. Like Joseph Ladapo. DeSantis has guys like that. Does DeSantis actually think he has more power than Bob frigging Iger?

Also, do let's not be relenting or merciful.

DeSantis is in a bind because he is a fascist, and Trump is not. He can only do real fascist things and blame an amorphous, non-definable "woke" group of people, which will through time and accumulated fascist power become more identifiable to people as specific minority groups. That part is coming if and when he gains more power.

Trump is in it for the money, but DeSantis is in it for the power.

Before recent events, I kept seeing the same talking points about DeSantis:

Be afraid! Be very afraid! He’s Trump but with a Harvard education! He’s going to be so much smarter about destroying our democracy when he is President!

The thing is, he’s not even going to make it in Florida if he keeps governing the way he has been lately. Even Floridians are going to soon tire of his fascist ways. The latest - because Disney didn’t agree with his homophobic mantra - he’s doubling down and threatening to sabotage their new $15 billion investment. In his state. 😳

This man makes Trump look smart. And that’s hard.

I found the following information about the general popularity of Disney movies for 2022. A pure popularity contest would suggest that DeSantis in comparison to Mickey productions is a big “Ron who?”

Disney was the highest-grossing studio domestically, tallying $2 billion from “Avatar,” “Black Panther” and “Doctor Strange” sequels. The domestic box office total reached an estimated $7.5 billion in 2022, down around 34% compared to 2019, before the pandemic.

Not all those dollars are from the lefties.
