I’m of the opinion that these pollsters do not know jack shit.

I get texts all of the time, this poll, that poll — who am I voting for? It is crazy if we take stock in polling based on this kind of thing. What is their validity? I have had at least 30 poll requests in the past month. Cut me a break.

Professor Lichtman has been more accurate than the pollsters. He says it is Harris.

“There is no historical precedent for the White House party winning another term when just 28% of the country thinks that we're on the right track. Simply put, it would be historically unprecedented.”—Harry Enten

News Flash: nothing about this election speaks to historical precedent. When was the last time we elected a 34 times convicted felon, who tried to overthrow the government, weaponize the DOJ and IRS, arrest members of the media, shut down companies that criticize him, and have his own VP hung, drawn and quartered? Yet, he’s somehow still here; just like a really nasty case of herpes!

“Personally, I’m with Howard Stern, on this question. I think it’s absurd, and I would also vote for a wall, a cat, a random person from the phonebook, a coma patient, or anyone over Trump because he betrayed his oath and attacked the US Constitution.”—Steve Schmidt

I’m totally with you Steve! I’ve often said, I’d vote for a head of lettuce over Trump! And if that’s not convincing enough, I’d even vote for DICK CHENEY over Trump! There I said it: and anyone who knows me, knows what I think of good ole DICK: Enough said!

“They want to know what she will do that is different — not from Trump — but from Biden.”—Steve Schmidt

I just don’t get it! What was so great about the Trump economy, other than he inherited a robust economy from Obama: annual growth rate 2.3%, and Obama reduced the deficit from 1.88 trillion, to $536 billion by the time he left office.

Trump inherited a robust economy, and only grew it by 2.3% before COVID hit and he completely mismanaged the entire affair which destroyed our economy and killed over a million Americans. Not to mention, Trump added $8.2 trillion to the debt and increased the deficit from $536 billion, to 1.8 trillion in just four years.

Anyone can increase GDP if you spend $8 trillion in four years, but he added almost 25% of all our debt in just four years. If people are truly worried about inflation, then they should be worried about deficits, and out of control spending and DEBT! It is a major factor for inflation! And eventually the economic chickens will come home to roost! This you can bet on, and take to the bank!

And Kamala shouldn’t need to differentiate herself from Trump. His economic policy is TARIFFS! They cause inflation! His healthcare message is essentially CONCEPTS, which I’m almost 100% sure doesn’t exist either, just like any semblance of reality. His immigration plan is to expel all immigrants, illegal or not! Anyone who believes this won’t bankrupt our nation needs a good therapist!

So my only question Steve is How the hell did we get to this place? It’s a rhetorical question, so no need to answer!

Stay safe all, and have a great weekend (I know it’s only Thursday)….:)

Unfortunately we're dealing with a profoundly ignorant as well as disinformed electorate. Therein lies the problem. More facts won't fix an entrenched perspective, no matter how wrong.

I don't think the US is on the right track but I'm diametrically opposed to Trump supporters who think the country is on the wrong track! What does that even mean? Does Harris need to keep on message and work hard? Yes! But it's a blip! There's one pollster out there who has correctly predicted the Presidential election since they started with the exception of Bush/Gore. He looks at non-opinion factors like economy, etc., etc. and tots up how many positives are on any given side. He had Biden winning. Harris scores higher. Stay the course. Stop the hysteria. We won't stop working. We show up. I know this is important, even vital. Don't panic.

The Maga cult follows their leader because he speaks their language with a forked tongue. The way I see it MAGA evolved from 2009’s Tea party movement, started by this country’s elite republicans to control the narrative. It’s all about controlling the messaging. Average everyday Americans are sick and tired of the corporate influence on this nation and the literal blackmailing tactics they use to pay little or no taxes while we, the working class are told we don’t even merit cost of living increases. They heard Drain the Swamp, and they believed he was actually going to make things better. At the same time, he’s telling his rich buddies, “l got your back…” Most of us see the duplicity of Donald Trump and believe it. You could smack some people in the face with what is obviously true, and they still won’t believe. It’s one of life’s most challenging mysteries.

I, too, think we're headed in the wrong direction and it has nothing to do with the current administration. That said, Lichtman's criteria evaluations are very subjective, and even with that, I

think he has Harris squeaking ahead by a single factor. Lucky projections of outcomes are not the same as valid forecasts.

Steve, VP Harris is calling out Traitor Trump for his lies about the Federal response to the hurricanes. Trump was speaking to the Detroit Economic Club and again starting his slew of lies with about the Federal response to the hurricanes. His false statements about the hurricane response should be disqualifying but we will see? Another hurricane is forming off the west coast of Africa with potential to hit Florida sometime next week? Another point to hit Trump is him giving sophisticated covid testing machines to Putin that we taxpayers paid for while Americans had nothing! Another point, I contacted the U.S. Center for Disease Control in February 2020 about my biosensor invention that can detect coronavirus under 1,000 viral count in 0.02 seconds and with artificial intelligence is 99% accurate. They told me they were not interested! Oh by the way, I lost my middle brother to Trump’s HOAX virus on April 9, 2020. On that day, Trump was urging Americans to pack the church pews for Easter 2020 because the virus was a HOAX. Those are THREE MAJOR ISSUES, hurricane relief, Russia getting coronavirus equipment, and the pathetic response to the pandemic that shows Trump’s weakness and affection for Putin. VP Harris can hammer him relentlessly on these issues because it shows when your life is on the line, Trump cannot be trusted!!! One last point, I heard the speaker myself state at Trump’s PA hatefest last Saturday tell to keep drinking unpasteurized milk! THE AVIAN FLU IS IN THE CATTLE POPULATION IN THE USA! DO WE WANT ANOTHER PANDEMIC STARTED BECAUSE DUMB TRUMPSTERS ARE DRINKING UNPASTEURIZED MILK???

Mark Lee Witten, I do hope Kamala continues to call out Trumps lies. I am sorry about your brother. To me , Trumps denial and mishandling of Covid is his gravest purposeful mistake and I will never forgive hm for that.

There's two dynamics here. And they aren't talking to each other.

The Good Faith crowd is concerned about the founding philosophy of the US. Self-rule, human rights, personal freedom.

The Bad Faith Trump World/MAGA/GOP are parasites/predators. They are only concerned about grabbing money for themselves without consequence. Legally from donations or selling junky shiny stuff. And illegally by bribery, theft, fraud and lying. Trump World doesn't care about freedom or human rights or self-rule. All of the adrenaline pumping claims about murderous, cat eating migrants is BS. All of the policies of Project 2025 and the GOP platform are BS. Everything is in service to the con game to take money.

The Press is like the paid lookout for the thief who broke into your house. Donald is rummaging around looking for stuff he can steal. And the Press diverts our attention away from his scam and his fraud-for-money methods. They could tell the truth about how well the economy is doing. Instead the talking heads say "Ya-but the public doesn't think the economy is good." Maybe that's because you are lying about how well everything is doing!!!

Donald is very good at stealing. That's his talent, his vocation, his career. His only creativity is figuring out how to get more money. It is all about the Money.

Donald and his family received/stole more than an $1 Billion while he was in the White House last time. Imagine what he can steal next time!!!

The stock market is at all time highs. https://www.cnbc.com/markets/

Inflation is down. The Fed just cut .50% from the Fed Funds rate.

Gasoline prices are low.

Unemployment is down, job creation is up.

People are traveling and spending money.

The grocery store shelves are stocked and prices are reasonable.

Ad spending is up and corp profits are doing great.

So why are people so gloomy about the economy?

Every time a media personality utters the word "Trump" the ratings go up. Could it be that the media is lying to their viewers about the "failed Biden Economy" in an attempt to keep Donald in a make believe "horserace"?

Call bullshit on the Press for lying about Donald. They could reveal that MAGA world is nothing more than a money scam.

Putin has stolen $1 Trillion from his citizens, with money laundering help from British and US lawyers and stock brokers and real estate brokers. He's killing a generation of young men and tens of thousands of grandmas and kids for his ego. To prove his power.

The Murdoch family has reaped $19 Billion from peddling lies for decades. Selling snake oil to the gullible.

Elon is a government contractor who would benefit huge if Donald gets in. As he said, if Kamala wins, "I'm fucked." Elon wants Donald to win the WH and join the Billionaire Autocrat Club.

Donald and his family and network of charlatan fake-politician thieves (Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, et al) have stolen/taken bribes for a few $ Billion. If he gets back in the Oval and controls the Treasury, the courts and the military, they will steal everything they can. Trump World is not about politics or doing anything for the American people. MAGA is all about Money.

All of this is public knowledge that NYT or WAPO or ABC, CBS, NBC or CNN could cover any day. But they don't because Donald is their cash cow.

Yes I am confident Harris is tough enough to blow the bridge to the past. I pray she has the chance. We will not have a democracy if Harris is not elected. I believe the overturning of Roe was a bigger deal than people realize. It was catastrophic. Women will lose their the rest of their rights without a Harris win (equivalent to how women have lost rights in countries like Iran). Even if Harris is elected, because of the cowardice of the GOP, I fear it will be a struggle to get to inauguration. I hope Biden will respond effectively to the turmoil that will happen from Election Day to inauguration. He is not done being tested.

Today’s column strikes me as a better reasoned stance than “she should go on msm instead of alternative media.”

Too much of the “wrong track” opinion (in my view) comes from (a) the fire hose of negativity coming from the right and (b) the imbalanced way that msm have been portraying Biden’s economy in particular but also other policy measures. Reporting him as “unpopular” (due to the opposition firehose) is malpractice if not accompanied by something about how this contrasts with the objective success of his actions - that among other things got the US economy through the COVID shock sooner and in better shape than any other developed country and is re-establishing US manufacturing in key areas.

(I read that even Republican midterm candidates ran on local benefits from Biden initiatives that they themselves voted against!)

Democrats seem to be terrible at explaining their own success.

So, the “right track / wrong track” polling starts with a 50% “wrong” side bias from the opposition. As to the remaining 50% I suspect that some who favor Biden policies would vote “wrong track” not because of Biden but because of what intractable Republican partisans have done to the legislative processes in our country.

Maybe I misunderstand how this polling is done, but with our checks-and-balances system, dissatisfaction can cut both ways.

Further to my earlier comment…

I think her answer to the question of where to break with Biden should be to preface with “You do know I’m still his Vice President, right?”

… and then move on to say something like “build on his successes and reassess his failures and find ways to do better.” An example of the latter might be to rethink and repackage the ‘Build Back Better’ proposals that had good intentions but were torpedoed in Congress.

She could also put in a plug for down-ballot help, since a Republican House or Senate or both will severely limit how much of any platform of hers will have a chance of implementation.

On Israel, if I were her I would be *very* careful not to be specific enough to give Netanyahu any more incentive than he already has for making Biden/Harris look weak. He has a lot of leverage in our election and he uses it for the benefit of Trump … who gratuitously moved our embassy to Jerusalem at Netanyahu’s request.

No one here has mentioned the elephant in this situation. While people say they "need more information" about Harris, at least some of those responses are cover for not admitting they will not vote for a woman, much less a non-white one. The very presence of the obscene Donald Trump as a viable, perhaps leading candidate points me in the direction of that bias rather than any real question about her policies. That's an even more difficult hill to climb.

If our nation's voters elect Donald Trump we as a people will deserve what we get and what we get will be plain unadulterated misery. We elected Ronald Reagan as our President twice, ditto for George W. Bush and we survived, but if we elect Mr Trump and Mr Vance our nation's women and children will not recover. Our once almost free nation will finally succumb to a religious dictatorship administered by ultra wealthy men who will govern for their own benefit.

I have lived a long life unencumbered by the dictates of our governments representatives, but if Mr Trump and company are elected I fear our women and children will not share my good fortune. We the people

Nor will our men. It's our men who go to war, and too many have already died thanks to meaningless wars started by GOP leaders.

When George W. gave Saddam an ultimatum to either let the US and UN search for WMDs or suffer the consequences, he clearly didn't count on Saddam crying uncle, because when he did, 5 days later we went in and bombed Baghdad anyway. I was horrified, thinking that our young men were dying for absolutely no reason at all, or certainly no reason that was apparent. Bush duped Americans that he invaded Iraq because of 9/11, yet all the terrorists who bombed the World Trade Center came from Saudi Arabia. Expect to see more of this under Trump.

Men's lives in war are always treated as DISPOSABLE, like bullets in a gun as opposed to human beings with lives full of hopes and dreams. Can any of us imagine protesting a war under Trump? Talk about disposable lives.

Steve, the question is wrong. The question should be, once President of the United States with all the powers that accompany that office, what would you define as future short-term AND long-term goals, that cannot be accomplished between now and November 5, nor by January 20, 2025, when President Joe Biden leaves office and you are inaugurated. In other words, what are your "big ideas" for actual change to favorably propel "the direction of our nation? What needs to be fixed, by whom, and what is your best timeline for arriving where most people today would like to be "tomorrow". This question, and others like it will solicit the potential for soaring language to define solution to intransigent problems that have existed from WWII on. Stupid and vacuous questions asked partly for a "gotcha" response" is not the way to discern what a potential leader can and should dream for on behalf of her/his people. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's response to a poor question should be to smile and say "please, give me a truly meaningful question, allow me the time to explain, and I will give the American people my honest and most sincere answer."
