Heading into the third month of Mitch McConnell’s disappearance, you start to wonder if the only credible source in this embarrassment of a country is Laura Loomer, who says the man is in a “vegetative state.”

MaryLou's avatar

.....and therefore unable to fulfill the requirements of his role.

That vegetative state (an insult to healthy vegetables everywhere) of MM is shared by virtually every journalist (sic) who will be in that room. Loomer, a contradiction inside an enigma, went to Ukraine and finally found the raw bile in her belly meant personal fear for her life and a tangible sense of the horror of massive ego, hers n Putin's. Does 'white house' correspond to tawdry capitulation? Birds in gilded cages are more free than this First Amendment.

We the people will be watching… taking note of who is there and who is not. A press complicit with an authoritarian regime is a made up of publicity tools, not journalists.

mary M keymer's avatar

That's good CE I like that publicity tools .

"We the people will be watching…"

Not me. I expect it will just be another $hitshow of sold out fools fellating the liar-in-chief while he verbally abuses them without mercy. I've got better things to do.

I don't think a "White House Correspondence Dinner" is ever a good idea. The press should remain objective in its coverage of an administration, in Trump's era, a regime. They should not "get cozy" with an administration they need to evaluate and report on objectively, without bias or favor. Their editorial opinions must be rational and based on factual evidence, not "alternative facts" used to bolster a corrupt and criminal REGIME.

The press is there to have a good time because they don't many another chances to dress up in tuxedos and gowns. It will dawn on them later when the guilt hits and ask was it worth it?

Trump and company are associated with the sicko Tate bros. The incredible research and well written article by Heidi Blake in the New Yorker magazine outlines the criminality of the Tate bros and their connections to Don Jr. as well as communications with Baron Trump. THE real media (Substack, the Atlantic, and independent journalists) continues to do the hard work of research, fact checking, and delving into issues ignored by the weak and disgraceful boot lickers at CBS. Grateful to subscribe to real journalistic media sources mentioned here. Thank you to Steve Schmidt and Dean Blondell, Joyce Vance, Katie Phang, Jim Acosta, Rick Wilson, Stuart Steven’s, Jennifer Welch, Timothy Snyder, Heather Cox Richardson, and all the dedicated and bold journalists who continue to work tirelessly to bring us the truth.

Ditto, ditto, ditto for all of those independent journalists. Thank goodness, we have them!

Fox.or.Ox's avatar

Also some others who spread and insist on truth such as Senator Whitehouse, Journalist podcaster Aaron Parnas, former US attorneys Glenn Kirschner and Michael Popok, Newsman Lawrence O'Donnell, and my favorite, the former federal Judge Michael Luttig.

Yes Judge Luddig - a caring thoughtful intelligent man with a passion for justice and democracy

I forgot the Court of History with Sydney Blumenthal and Sean Wentz

This dinner is a chiropractor's dream. No spines and a willingness to believe bullshit and pay for it.

Great analysis. Love it.

I believe that the Governor of Kentucky should request an on site meeting with McConnell, If it isn't met, then the GOVERNOR and the public know that they have been lying to the people. I would give it a time frame of week at the most. In fact this should be a new law put into place for the future for all individuals in Congress.

This continuation of McConnell not being seen or heard from indicates that they are not being honest which we have caught the Republicans in too many lies to this date.

The fourth estate has largely, if not completely, abdicated their watchdog role in this supposed democracy. It is up to the fifth estate, comprised of independent true journalists and we the people to defeat the fascism that is currently embodied in a putrid orange blob avatar of the broligarchs. Do those people not understand that their proximity to today’s Hitler will not protect them from the ravages of a third world war!

Fox.or.Ox's avatar

That is my worry and concern. We are steadfastly marching into the abyss that caused millions of deaths, suffering, grief for lifetimes, irretrievable security and safety as well as economic disaster under Nazi Germany for many decades.

Any journalist worth his/her weight in salt—and shows up to this travesty of a dinner, will be relegated to the dustbin of history—just as Bari Weiss and her cohorts at CBS will be; once MAGA dies a slow, painful death from truth—and America finally moves on from this terrible tragedy!

Everyone on the dias tonight should stand and face Trump and give the Nazi Salute. Then yell Heil Trump. Mein Fuhrer”!

Then all give the Chinese custom of a deep bow from the waist as they face him. Stand straight and in unison say “The greatest president since sliced bread!”

Wendy Shelley's avatar

As a non-journalist I’ve asked that journalists boycott this WHCD. They will. And “publicity tools“ will be attending and participating in the “heil Trump“ fiasco. It will be interesting to see WHO is on WHICH side. Keep reporting, Steve!

Julia's avatar

They will all be there. Drunk on power and access. A public display of political masterbation.

mary M keymer's avatar

Thank You Steve.. I didn't see a post from you yesterday . Oh brother, I got worried that somehow I was kicked off your site by accident. Anyway todays post is so clear. I hope and pray that the people I like don't show up to this despicable event. It will change my opinion of them if they do. He is a pig alright. When I do hear and see him say something I've taken to saying to the tv shut it piggy .. It's beyond anything that they are even having this dinner. They should have it and tell the piggy he is not invited. angry in america

Peter Wood's avatar

Unlike tRump, pigs are sensitive and intelligent animals. They are a lot like dogs once you get to know them. https://www.farmsanctuary.org/news-stories/remembering-rhino-pig-why-sanctuary-matters/

mary M keymer's avatar

I have heard that Peter. I think George Cloony had a pet pig. My reason for calling him piggy has to do with him saying to a female reporter "quiet piggy"

Peter Wood's avatar

Got it - thank you, Mary!

Do a 24 hour show on all the criminal acts he committed over his last administration and his current firehose of criminality. Btw does anyone believe Trump figured out this new tariffs he’s imposing. Most importantly the forever attack on preventing people from voting. Then there’s the McCarthy rerun

Patricia Baron's avatar

Great idea. Bennett, but 24 hours is not enough to showcase Trump's spectacular procession.of lifelong crimes.

Bennett Mostel's avatar

When I was 11-13 years old I spent lots of time with my uncle Zero Mostel was blacklisted at the time and couldn’t work for 10 years. This is a replay of the Nazi playbook.

Patricia Baron's avatar

Yes, indeed! Right of the Nazi playbook. Your uncle was strong and survived. I still laugh out loud every time I watch "The Producers," and loved him in Fiddler as well.

Bennett Mostel's avatar

I worked with him on the Producers. What a time

Zero was absolutely brilliant!

Another big eye opener. When you think they can’t go any lower, they find a way. What they have done to the memories of the latest four casualties if the insane Iran war is absolutely despicable.

Watching a man of integrity (Jon Ossoff) being silenced by a man devoid of same (Tom Cotton) speaks volumes about the state of America’s politics and its deteriorating democracy. We must somehow find a way to crush and discard cynical hypocrisy as a governing technique. There appears to be no punishment, legal or electoral, for the ongoing, deliberate, corrosive behavior that is destroying us in real time. The closest thing we have to an opposition party is dominated by entrenched, calcified frauds bent on maintaining the status quo and undermining the very change agents in their ranks these times so desperately need.

Only Leni Riefenstahl was missing. The rest showed up to demonstrate who they are.

That must be some damn fine steak and lobster at that dinner…are the proceedings opening with the ‘Horst Wessel’ song instead of the Star Spangled Banner? Nothing like kicking back and picking your teeth as you listen to the demented after dinner blather of porridge-brained Regime Leader Trump. Perhaps Karoline Leavitt will do some charades when Trump naps.
