I totally agree with Steve. I’ve suggested before that Biden shouldn’t even try to answer the complex, trick questions Joke Tapper and Dana Bashful will have been instructed to throw at him to trip him up and make him sound old and boring. Two minutes is a ridiculous amount of time to explain policy and the now MAGA CNN will try to exploit that impossibility. Instead, Joe should concentrate on throwing trump triggers that will get the criminal idiot riled up and compelled to spew his insane, demented gibberish. If the American people want a shit show instead of a guide to governance - I say give’em what they want and deserve. Better yet, maybe Joe could get Jimmy Kimmel to stand in for him. I’m kidding here, but not much.

The 2 minute time limit makes genuine debate impossible. Thus, it will be a mudslinging contest; Biden has a truck full of mud, Trump has a teaspoon or less. Screw the questions; Biden should use his time to attack Trump in every way possible. Try to get Americans to understand how unfit for office this narcissist is. Point out he belongs in prison; he thinks he looks good in orange anyway.

My point exactly but you expressed it perfectly. If only Biden would listen to us or even better, Steve.

To your point, Nancy, the Democrats should hire Steve as a campaign consultant, given they're running such a crappy campaign themselves, letting Trump dominate the press and doing a poor job of countering MAGA lies and misinformation. At least Steve would instill in them the spinal fortitude to sharpen their attacks and go for the kill. This is a battle for the very survival of our way of life, and should be waged as such.

I sent this to Biden and his HQ. SOOO hoping they've all taken the time to heed the advice offered herein from Steve. The time to travel the high road has passed long ago.

My view: Biden needs to stay above the muck with the Fascist. Be calm, humorous, methodical. Call the election what it is: a choice between a bright future or dark nightmare.

Biden should acknowledge that his generation, and the Fascist’s for that matter, will be passing the torch. Everyone wants a future that has our most cherished wishes — faith, tolerance, and justice. This matters.

Lastly, Steve mentioned that the Fascist will attack Hunter Biden. Actually, I see the Fascist going lower than that — he will attack Beau Biden. Stay cool, Joe, and you’ll weather it.

Yes, "Stay cool, Joe". That's how he has accomplished so much. Good advice. He's got this.

I remember watching Rosa Perot implode on TV. Most of the MAGA cult should remember it, too. I hope the debate turns Trump into a tantrum-throwing toddler right before our very eyes. The truth is his Kryptonite.🤞🏼

Yes! Great way to put it. “The truth is his Kryptonite”. Perfect! 👍 I may have to use this, if you don’t mind! 👏

If President Biden follows the Mr. Schmidt's advice, the tantrum-throwing toddler will make a grand appearance and you're right...Truth bombs are the Kryptonite which will shake Trump to his core, revealing to all of us and the world who watches with us, the incognizant blustered ramblings of a mind lost. 😉

"The truth is his Kryptonite." Perfect!

Steve, I agree with almost everything you write, but not this. President Biden needs to be sharp and quick on the uptake. He does need to challenge Trump. But two of Biden’s trademarks are decency and integrity. I respect him for those qualities and don’t want to see him compromise them.

I think we will see the charming Trump and hopefully that doesn’t throw Biden. Trump knows how to behave and can do it. Just hope Biden can get under his skin with some funny barbs.

Biden is much more intelligent than Trump and will know how to play his cards.

There is no such thing as a charming tRUMP!

He needs to remind him of who is who in the many gaffs that trump has made. Nicky Haley who he confused with Nancy Pelosi, and many others. Biden can clean his slate with trump’s lack of knowledge in foreign diplomacy.

Please work with the Dems and with the Biden campaign. They are desperate for a hard hitter!

Trump said he's going to put the Fascists in jail. He's going to jail himself! Very odd! But now that we know that the 2025 commission is the boss, let Trump know that we know who calls the shots - the guys in the goofy black suits.

I agree. TFG is a strawman and the real movers and shakers have made that fool their bitch. If he manages to win this election he will find that out in a hurry. His so-called victory will turn to ashes in his mouth.

I agree. It will set Trump off!

Biden should take any opportunity possible to bring up Trump's disastrous handling of the COVID pandemic. His initial reaction was to worry about how COVID might harm his chances at a second term. So, he said the virus would "magically" disappear in two or three weeks, dangerous wishful thinking. When it didn't disappear, he rejected the advice of Dr. Fauci and other medical experts and endorsed snake oil remedies like hydrochloriquine, ivermectin, and somehow getting bleach, disinfectant, or ultrviolet light into our bodies to kill the virus. Hundreds of thousands of Americans died as a result.

I think Biden ought to hit hard but remain calm. Let Trump's simmering anger explode in incoherent outbursts. This could be accomplished by bringing up Trump's statement about revolutionary American soldiers protecting our airports or his suggestion to drop nuclear bombs in hurricanes to break them up.

Ask him if he still endorses those statements. Ask him if he understands the consequences of ending taxes and funding the government tariffs. Is he still writing love letters to Kim Jung Un? Does he know 26 women have accusedhim of sexual assault?

I know the moderators won't ask these difficult questions of Trump. But Biden could work them into his responses. Unlike Trump I do not believe etc.

I’d like for President Biden to ask Trump what he intended to do with all the documents he had hidden at Mar-a-Lago. It would be better if a moderator would ask that question. I wonder how we can pressure monitors to ask the questions we want them to ask.

Expand full comment

I wish there were some way to get moderators to ask the questions that would enable America to see the threat that Trump represents. But, alas, I think big money has something to do with their reluctance to ask important questions such as the one you suggest.

It’s past due time for the Biden folks to strip him of his falsified strongman image. Start by showing photos or comments from world renowned people. A great one would be of Angela Merkel’s scowling face and distancing herself from him in a worldwide lens. Take off the gloves!

It would be interesting if Trump was asked whether he would accept a Biden victory.

Yes. I hope Biden asks this question. It would be very wise to do so. The reply will tell all.

Traitor Trump should be asked whether he still supports the death penalty -- for his convicted self!

We already know the answer to this question but asking the same, would most certainly bring out Trumpy's rage and childishly insolent character. Get the popcorn ready! 😉

Wear orange on July 11; go into 7/11 & get an orange drink. Bigger turnout than a Trump rally

L O L, I just got off the bus at my friendly neighborhood Target where I am going to pick up the orange T-shirt I ordered for the occasion. Although I am happy to do orange on July 11, I think it is much more important that we all go to the Joe Biden reelection site and buy Biden T-shirts and sweatshirts and hats and buttons and bumper stickers and window signs, and display all of them as frequently and as widely as we can. I understand that people in hard-core red states will want to exercise some discretion, but the rest of us can and should be loud and proud. https://shop.joebiden.com/shop-all/

I’m inclined to agree with Steve here, but, like others, hope President Biden doesn’t get down in the muck. Let tRUMP wallow in it all he wants. Joe just has to be truthful and pound home the point that the dumpster fire is a convicted felon 34 times over with other indictments pending…and a little bit of humiliation would be wonderful too! 😝

If I were Biden, I would be as worried as much about Tapper and Bash as about the easily ignited fascist who these days has as much trouble containing his anger as controlling his bowels and gas. Tapper and Bash, now employees of a MAGA giant who expect loyalty above the arcane notion of journalistic ojectivity, could in just a few comments, a few back-to-back quickly joined questions, laced together with bait-and-switch lead-ups, or a combination of any above, a facial expression throwing shade in hearing Biden's response, could crucially disrupt Biden's focus. A few seconds of not stopping Trump's attacks could tilt the scale. All TV tech hands are also employees of that same right-wing media company. So many things, so many ways to subtlety sway. Could be we are all subject more to the actions of the two compromised monitors than the two candidates vying for the presidency of the United States.
