The Donald transitioned into a Norma Desmond some time ago, but his pallid visage is something new:
Perhaps Donald was never orange after all?
Personally, I am convinced that America must never, ever have an orange president again. In fact, I don’t think any orange offspring through nine generations of direct descendants should ever hold any political office — ever. In the words of George Herbert Walker Bush, a great one-term American president and icon, “Not gonna do it. Wouldn’t be prudent.”
At any rate, maybe the orange has melted down and off because Trump is melting down. His news conference yesterday at Mar-a-Lago was utterly unhinged.
Trump is decomposing, and his decline is obvious. He is quick to anger, disoriented, and unable to distinguish between pretend and reality. He has essentially stopped campaigning, and though he claims to be winning, he is in fact losing.
The race has become about Trump — or more specifically, the possibility of better that comes from moving on and far away from the weirdness, racist filth, cult of personality, corruption, and idiocy that oozes out of every MAGA pore. An era is ending. Thank God.
Now would be an opportune time for Vice President Harris to call for a generation of Americans to service. She should ask young people to serve in the military and Peace Corps, as well as establish an American Senior Corps for retired Americans who wish to serve after completing the first part of their career journeys, and have launched their kids into adulthood.
“Better” should be the anthem of the Harris-Walz campaign, and so far it is working perfectly.
A while back, I wrote about a Michael Franti song that makes for the perfect political platform/anthem in this moment of opportunity emerging from the soil of crisis. It’s called “I’m on Your Side:”
I’d encourage you to listen to the song, but if you’d prefer, here are the lyrics:
If you ever lay awake at night
Wondering if we'll be alright
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
If you're sitting at the kitchen table
Counting up your bills to pay
I’m on your side
If you're staring at the TV stations
Wondering how we got this way
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
Can you hear me?
Is your heart beating like a drum?
Can you hear me?
I don't care where you come from
I am on your side
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
If ice is clinking in your cup
You're thinking about giving up
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
And if you got the news today
Doctor's telling you to pray
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
And if you feel the pounding fear
When flashing lights are in your mirror
I'm on your side
Can you hear me?
Is your heart beating like a drum?
Can you hear me?
I don't care where you come from
I am on your side
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
I'm on your side
If you're weary and you're broken
And you don't know what to hope in
If you're willing and you're able
Come and meet me at the table
If you've lost your way to laugh and
Can't remember how to dance and
If you're out of tears to cry
Take my hand
I'm on your side
Eighty-seven days to go.
Steve, the time has also come to SHOUT it out from the rooftops that every registered voter MUST make sure they are still registered. A quiet purging of registered voters is happening in many mostly Red states… eg, if you voted by absentee ballot at the last election in Florida there is a good chance you have been purged and you must re-register all over again in 2024. We must ALL pay attention!
I think an American Senior Corps is a wonderful idea. Many seniors have much to offer, but there is difficulty for many with getting to locations for service. I did five years service at a cat shelter, but physical limitations took hold and I had to retire from that. Service such as tutoring through an online format would be a good thing, among other ideas, for seniors with limitations. I am all in a positive message and wish not to dwell on the misery and hate that arrives each day from the dark side.
