My single hope rests with a comment made by Merrrick Garland's Harvard Law professor, Lawrence Tribe, who two days ago said he believes Garland will prosecute Trump. Too many people, most of whom have risked their lives (literally) to testify as witnesses to Trump's crime(s) need to know their honesty and brave heartedness has not been in vain. Trump's continued mockery of our country and its laws and principles of governance is an outrage to all who abide the law. He travels freely throughout the land unmolested and unprosecuted by the institutions authorized by we the people to punish those who harm us. We are not a lawless country and will never be one. If Garland ignores the ocean of facts brought forth by the Jan. 6th Committee he alone will be responsible for the violence whose intensity will be much worse than he can imagine, even in his worst nightmare.
Amen! We should remember that he has already been twice prosecuted in the Congress and it was only shameful cowardice and political shallowness that resulted in his acquittal by the Senate. But thanks to the January 6th Committee we now have much more evidence of his guilt. His criminal conduct cannot be ignored if we are to remain a country where the rule of law is respected.
I think it's far past time that we face reality. Look at Garland's actions vs his 'cut & paste' rhetoric. His glacial pace in responding to seditious conspiracy should be compared to the speed with which he dismissed all pending cases against Trump, and refused to even investigate the enduring shame of Lafayette park. Garland went so far as to block a defamation case for a rape allegation that occurred decades before Trump was elected. Garland has allowed a ridiculous number of pro-Trump appointees to remain in DOJ (just as Biden has allowed Trump appointees to remain in key offices, and appoints pro-monoploly judges to District courts). Look at what these people do vs what they say. Why is Wray still the FBI Director...he did nothing to stop 1/6, does nothing to curb domestic terrorism, neither he nor Garland have done anything to protect election workers, or to prevent witness tampering of 1/6 witnesses.
I've yet to receive an answer as to why Garland was even appointed to be the AG. Nothing in his background suggests anything other than his focus as a judge on not being overturned, always opting for overly cautious decisions. This is the fighter that will restore the rule of law? Really?
There has to be accountability for what happened on January 6, we have to remove this disease from our body politic, if this was a cancer, we would poison it and cut it out, so too the insipid one represents a cancer that we absolutely have to remove in order to remain healthy. There is no way that we can tolerate having this poison continue to grow in our culture, it’s lethal to the very fabric of our society, and just as when they remove a tumor they make sure to get all of it, leaving nothing but healthy tissue, the Justice department needs to make sure that none of the support for this cancerous growth remains, this may be a painful experience but to leave it without addressing it, will be fatal.
The former president is a narcissistic sociopathic pathological liar and he needs to be taken out of society where he can do no further damage to our fragile Democracy! The people need this to happen! It has been way too long and obvious! This imprisonment must happen in order to restore our "Law and Order" Democracy! Through the 50 years of Trump giving a middle finger to the laws that govern our land, as a private citizen, never has it been more important to punish him for this breech of our constitution, and attack on our government, while acting as the person elected to protect both. The coup he planned and attempted, which we all witnessed and have agonized over for two years, has been examined as if on a surgeons table, and it is time. What really the 1/6 Investigation has revealed is that the testimonies would have been buried in oblivion had the likes of Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy had their way. Donald Trump should be arrested now, because he defiled the Office of the Presidency. His accomplices must also be brought to justice, all of them. And, please, Mike Pence should not be given any kind of medal for doing what he had to do, without having to consult at the last moment with a former Vice President. Astounding!
In addition to trying and imprisoning trump, I would like to see the Traitorous Ten congressional representatives removed from the House from their seats and tried. These people, the Matt Gaetzes, mtg, and Louie Gohmerts, cannot go unpunished. The others who went along with the craziness must be punished too, if only for their complicity. Even an indictment and conviction of Trump will do nothing to reverse Trumpism; the false, crude, irresponsible destruction of people, institutions, freedoms and ethics that have become invasive in our country's politic. The January 2017 fight re: the Office of Congressional Ethics was a prelude to the devolution of government under the new administration. How do we accept this next election as free and fair when conspirators are in positions to toss the election ballots in favor of a pre-determined legislative decision? How do we re-establish voting rights and access when ballot boxes have been legislatively eliminated from states? How ironic, that SCOTUS looks more like the populous and thinks more like characters who have stepped from the pages of the Crucible! I fear for my children and grandchildren. Steve, i imagine you have wanted to arrest the dt, ever since he started to spit on John McCain. now that is just my thoughts. i have a vivid imagination, i am 75 years old, i sleep with a cpap machine that helps me sleep deep, and dream deep. i had a dream a few months ago that the state of Missouri legalized public hangings. the gallows were built, and 7 men were scheduled to be hung at dawns first light, dt and six of his cohorts were to be hung. there was three hundred thousand folks in attendance waiting for that first beam of light to break the horizon. and there it is, and the lever was thrown, the ropes became taught, and the deed was done, and that was that. this speaks to my subconscious and my feelings of this last presidency, lies, lies, and damn lies. i think the grateful dead said it best , what a long strange trip it has been. i don't know where these hearings are going to lead. this pretty well says what i think should happen, StevePower photographer
