My father, once told me when I was young, history is a great lesson. I thought it was boring and received an average grade. I asked him why do I have to know this information when it all has passed. He told me, so we don’t repeat our bad mistakes and we can grow to be a better person. After that conversation, I was more engaged in my history class and have enjoyed the class. I’m glad you share this history Steve. Obviously, you know much more than I. Thanks, if Americans knew more of their history maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation.

If people understood history and the the candidates for public office, we never would have elected such an incompetent, arrogant, fool as Trump. Read and weep, pondering what the near future holds for us and our children:

Mediaite reports:

President Donald Trump issued a grave new warning to Iran — threatening to strike the country’s bridges and power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened by Tuesday.

In a wild Truth Social post early Sunday, the president demanded the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — the all-important waterway through which much of the world’s oil supply passes — and vowed to go after Iran’s civilian infrastructure if the strait remains closed.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran,” Trump wrote. “There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”

WE ARE IN DEEP, DEEP, TROUBLE.

I am so sad that future or the U.S. Constitution is more at risk than that of the U.S.S. Constitution.

May there never be a U.S.S. Trump. May his name be removed from all honorable institutions and sites. May he be remembered in history as a warning to never again elect another megalomaniacal con man to any public office.

My hope for his name is equal to the use of " Hitler " today.

They both have many similarities in their lives and how they ruled. The Weimar Republic had a fully functioning democracy and constitution. Just like the USA. Hitler was elected by the German people. Like our orange imbecile was. Hitler staged a beer hall putsch. Orange imbecile stage Jan 6th. Hitler's father was an overbearing, cruel, demanding and controlling man. Ditto for orange imbecile. There are many, many more similarities too numerous to list here.

Reason 10,000 why learning and knowing history is important

'History' is NOT a series of isolated events that can be cherry-picked to create some meme or manipuoltion of language, politics or emotional charge. As my university professor once said, 'there is history and then there is chronicle.' History is the emotion charge assigned to chronicle to embellish some POV. Chronicle is the relentless nuts and bolts inventory of who, what, when, where, why and how. These 'facts' standing alone are subject to manipulation. Seen as a whole energetic, they tell a story of the behavior of an entire species of animal -- us. Obviously, it is ebb and flow of aspirations tinged with either evolution or chaos, the yin/yang of this species and its inexorable impacts upon a single planet circling one of trillions of potential suns in some reality that is so huge it defies even imagination, let alone study. Emotively, any dynamic can be evinced from certain facts, good, bad, so-so, indifferent, loyal, etc. To see the whole picture should, via honesty and accuracy, expose the truth of human kind -- that it is only partially 'kind,' and that kindness has not been enough to keep this species from committing both genocide and suicide. If we cannot/will not learn from the story of our history, then we will repeat it, but only untile it destroys us, and this once enchanted planet we now live on.

Thank you for this clear and concise history lesson! I visited the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor a few years ago and my husband and I walked the Freedom Trail. I would urge all citizens to visit the historical sites of this great city and to read more about the founding of our country. It is not at all dull!

Today the man who 77 million Americans voted for called the Iranian people “crazy bastards” and said “open the fucking strait” or the United States will commit war crimes upon you.

There is nothing to celebrate or admire about the United States.

As usual a singular focused look at something that should not be taken for granted. Eloquently expressed.

George Washington knew a young country could be corrupted by wealth and power. I think the naming of the ships came with thought of the people of a new nation. One who was fumbling to find its way in a world of monarchies. A nation of the people, by the people and for the people. The ship names themselves speak only of the People. The Constitution, a map of rights and laws to guide us. The Congress where our Representatives could argue for things that mattered to us. The Chesapeake, the lifeblood of our youth nation bringing news and trade. The Constellation, the 13 sisters held together by a common freedom. A freedom of speech and no taxation without representation. The United States the new nation born of liberty. The President, not person's name attached but an idea that common citizens could reach the high office.

Could you imagine if Donald Trump was our first President. Everything would bear his name. Not out of adulation of the man but solely for vanity sake. I don't believe the people of our Forefathers generation would have elected Trump for anything. They were hardened men and women of battle and of life. Unlike the population of today, who have been dumbed down by watching too many TV reality shows. Today is the only time in history that Trump could get elected. We have lost the ability to see through 5th Avenue Advertisement campaigns schemes. We have become starstruck and now worship at the Almighty Dollar. We are Latchkey kids who whine when the TV is turned off. We can name the TV and Movie Stars but we can not name authors who have written volumes that will no longer be read.

Why are we bothering to go to the moon. We no longer have anything to offer other planets civilizations. Perhaps that is why aliens, if they exist, visit and leave so quickly, maybe it's because we no longer hold interest for them. We are too consumed with power over other people in our world. We want domination instead of wanting to learn. Yeah, we could learn much from other cultures like we did in our distant past. Unfortunately, we have become Know-it-alls. We no longer see the need in learning, no matter how ancient the other cultures may be. No we want to blow nations back to the stone age. I laugh at the thought because this administration has never left the stone age. They think and believe as Neanderthals. No planning is necessary if you are strong. Who needs to observe and learn when you are the hunter. My God, the Neanderthals could teach this administration something. Like know your prey before you become their prey.

The Times They Are A Changing.

Knowing how to make bombs and drop bombs is not “the cause”, as little petey would understand it to mean. What would our current civilian commander in chief understand the cause to mean? I suppose it would be something about his personal money or power wrapped up in the trappings of a strong nation, or how this country could extract payment or loyalty from other countries or other “strong” men , “strongmen?”.

Do you remember when he showed L. Ingraham a copy of the U S constitution, little curtains to shade it from sunlight, the paper it was written on seemed to him to be much more valuable than what it said or meant.

So what is “the cause”?, what is the constitution? Nothing really more than an idea, perhaps a “great builder” wouldn’t see any value in it, nothing “concrete or marble”about it at all. I see it as freedom and liberty, freedom from want and freedom from fear.

The constitution says we are ordinary men and women and will attempt to do something extra-ordinary

When a ship gets underway from an anchorage, it weighs the anchor. And when the anchor is free of the bottom (up and down), the Bosn'n calls "Anchor's Aweigh". There should also be one blast of the ship's whistle to indicate a change of status from anchored to underway. Dave Secrest, Retired Navy Guy and Schmidt Advocate. Just clarifying the vocabulary......

I've mentioned this before--I think Steve's history lessons deserve to be gathered together into a book. Not a huge tome, but a slim volume that could be the first of a series. The Title: History Lessons. (perhaps a subtitle in very small print: 'under trump'). The next in the series could commence when we have a new person to properly call "Mr. President".
