Today, I react to reports that Donald Trump will be arrested on Tuesday. I discuss how America is at a tipping point as MAGA Republicans no longer respect the results of elections, and how citizens must fight back in order to keep the United States from becoming an autocracy similar to Russia and China.
“It must be opposed ~ fiercely” ~ will never stop thanking you for speaking truth regarding these days we are in. You are right that most Americans have their heads in the sand over these issues. I hate to say this but it seems like it is going to take more terrible events before people truly wake up. When I try to talk about these things with others there is no interest on their part ~ except for 1-2 close friends. Keep drumming Steve, those of us who are listening need you.
Freedom is a crucial pillar of what makes us who we are. But there’s another that is essential, and it hasn’t been talked about as much in recent years. It’s been on my mind lately.
IMHO, we need to resurrect our focus on “the common welfare.” We have freedom, yes, but our founders also emphasized the importance of us as a collective, trying to establish the common good.
Let’s remember to talk about our responsibilities as well as our freedoms.
While I would like to believe that the MAGA Republicans hold the minority opinion about Trump, today's Quinnipiac poll indicates that 61% if respondees believe that donald trump's indictment was politically motivated. 61%! This horrifies me.
Another ‘sad’ and concerning commentary. Living in Florida, I don’t understand why the Hispanics who fled authoritarian governments are so hellbent on supporting Trump and DeSantis too, for that matter. They must find relief for their ‘homesick’ feelings of living under authoritarian rule. Next Tuesday will be a major indicator of where things stand for Trump, but I believe (from what I’ve been seeing and hearing) that New Yorkers, as a whole HATE Trump, - and the area will be well-protected from any out-of-control protests. Unfortunately, this type of realistic straight shooting discussion is being suppressed. I just noticed over the last couple months my Twitter feed is being dominated by pro-right wing extremism. There is not a trace of Republican conservatism to be found. This enormous misinformation campaign can get these fascists elected. I mean more fascist politicians. How can they walk lock-step down this authoritarian path?
Your posts are always right on. I’ve always been moderate, but this extreme right BS is tearing our country apart. Why? Because an Australian asshole has destroyed cable television and people that only watch his broadcasts are lemmings. The GOP knows better, but won’t say what they feel because they want to stay in whatever position they’re voting into by the lies and gerrymandering that puts them in positions. We’ve been down this road many times. I will not let liars take my rights and my kids rights away because some authority thinks it’s smarter than I am. Screw Trump, DeSantis, Jordan, Gaetz, MTG, Boebert and all the other liars that pretend to uphold democracy.
We have met The Great Menace and it is us, the American voter. The republicans are desperately trying to end the American experiment, and they didn’t get into office by fiat. They were voted there. Just as with the gun violence the nation suffers with, it is the American voter that places that horror upon us. Likewise, if the American experiment ends in the next presidential cycle, it is us who have made that election.
We can vote heavily anti MaGA but if the red states don’t count all the votes and their MAGA dominated legislatures send their own slate of pro MAGA electors...then what then, my friends? What then?
It truly is a defining moment in America and we need a national day of resistance to this individual and his enablers. That day of resistance should be everyday in small steps and big steps by everyone of us in our neighborhoods, city's, and states across this country. Everyone please get involved. As Steve said, it's imperative to save democracy.
How to stop the poison. Methodical and consistent messaging to as many people as possible. Pros and cons. Complacency and inactions will not destroy this menacing, vulgar take over of our democracy. Thanks for the messaging Steve.
Are we a land of laws or a land of politics? We have a big test ahead, and our future depends upon it.
Our country has had many stressful times but this is another serious one. We can be strong or fold, running from the pressures. Our survival depends upon our reactions, and this is not going to be an easy, quick answer. Be patient and smart! Our future depends on it.
The future of other countries will be affected, too. Had TFG won in 2020, Ukraine wouldn't have had much of a chance to save their country. Many countries are waiting and watching.
I am worried that the NYPD will pull that corridor of saluting. This is no joke, we are on the brink of violent social unrest, half being based on false information. Regardless of what happens justice must be exercised.
