A rubicon has been crossed. A former president of the United States has been accused of committing a felony, and will be arrested and tried in New York City. What comes next will be a new epoch in a winding travesty that has stretched from 2015 to 2023, and has become the greatest singular threat to America’s peace, prosperity and domestic tranquility. The MAGA movement has been like a flesh-eating bacteria hosting on American democracy. It has decimated our politics and unmoored it from reality.
Glenn Kirscher: "A legal barrier has been broken...A president of the United States can never again rest comfortably that he will have impunity for his crimes." Historic day.
While folks are popping corks and clinking glasses, let's take a second and appreciate the full weight of thia moment. What a sad commentary on this country.
On the other hand, here's to the resolute and courageous persons within our justice sysem: accountability is critical to our survival as a nation.
Shouldn't be long before we see how the maga's and militia folks react. I suppose they'll all descend on NYC. Hope they can handle the hotel rates and downtown traffic if they go.
I am literally standing by, with my beer and popcorn. This is a very consequential day. The evidence supporting at least part of this indictment shows that the disgraced, twice-impeached one term president engaged in a pattern of doing anything and everything to gain and keep the presidency; the Atlanta case, the J6 insurrection, and the documents cases are all part of that pattern. This case is a big deal; Michael Cohen has already served a year in prison for THIS VERY CRIME.
I do not wish to follow this road, but we must. No other path until we bring this to conclusion It will be ugly and painful, but there is no other option Thank you Steve, hold the light of truth up for all to see
The Rubicon was crossed when Trump was elected. And, as I sit here and listen to cable news discuss the news of the indictment it is clear that nobody bothered to talk to anyone in New York about what we knew about Trump before his election -- that he was a liar, a sociopath and a crook. This is not a surprise. It is sad. But it is a good day for our Democracy because it proves that no citizen is above the law. And it will not reflect well on Trump’s defenders because their statements prove that they truly do not believe in democracy.
Although I can’t for the life of me figure out Trump’s appeal, he has finally been indicted…with many more to come. He is a thug. A criminal. A lowlife. Will his base finally wake up or will they take to the streets and defend him? Who knows? Their only logic is to “own the libs” because what? Their white superiority is dwindling? Other than putting conservatives on the Supreme Court on his watch, he’s done nothing for the average American. Why…why…is he still relevant?
Another first for TFG, surpassing two House impeachments. I have heard a number of people say that they wish that this wasn't the first indictment. It's not that I wanted this to be the first indictment. But the fact that it is doesn't make the other indictments that I am fairly certain will be coming any less powerful. I look at this as the first, and likely the lightest, in a series of body blows that will knock this lifetime criminal out. I'm confident that when the indictment is unsealed it will be about a lot more than "hush payment" misdemeanors and campaign finance violations.
Steve's August 2022 piece chilled me to my core when I read it then and, when I read it now.
Anything is possible w/ Trump and his loyalists...there is no joy in today but, some measured relief for a degree of accountability (we hope). Talk about an abusive relationship....we have been hostage to to this madness and down is up and up is down.

So, here's to We The People; may we endure!!!
I will savor this as the moment when I could believe that in this country, no one is above the law
I know we may face tough days ahead. But we’d face even worse if this man is never made to pay for his vile crimes.
Today I celebrate with hope in my weary heart.

Let’s hope this is just the first crack and this sonofabitch is held accountable for ALL of his crimes.
Let’s prove to ALL the autocratic wanna bee’s once and for all that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
Thank you Steve, for every post.

The first of the dominoes falls. Now, we follow the law and he gets his day in court.
Make America Great America hold Trump accountable for his many crimes.
I hope that DA Bragg has security. I don’t trust Trumpbots to not do something crazy.
