Love Jim Acosta!!!

We should all be Jim Acosta’s. I stand with Jim Acosta. Truth. Integrity. Decency. Courage.

I wrote him privately weeks ago to ask him to move to Substack. I knew he had the integrity to do it. This is so exciting. CNN should be working on its own obituary-the death of Fox News Jr.

I think as part of this we have to pay attention to a recent piece in The Atlantic. If accurate, and I have no reason to doubt it, some 40 million “Christians” in this country want to torch the Constitution. Nothing would make them happier than to raid the National Archives, yank out the original document, and set it ablaze. I used to think these people were fringe, but they are not. They believe secular government is against God’s Will and they have the patience of the Taliban. Watch out.

The new press Secretary wore a crucifix today. I pay attention to this stuff and feel like they’re on the march to get all of us.

I noticed the cross right away! To me it is a symbol of MAGA; just as they stole the flag, and the word patriot! The "christian nationalists" are abusing Jesus, and his teachings, who they claim that they follow! They are making "real" Christians look bad to non-christians!

I don't understand why the Democrats in congress don't address this issue- we believe in "the separation of church and state"! The Pilgrims came to the New World for religious freedom! Our founding fathers knew what would happen if we didn't have religious freedom-and we are witnesses to that result today!

Yes. Meant to write cross rather than crucifix.

I used to know I was in the majority but that was before felon Trump.

Is it majority or minority now?

I wonder if those “Christians” don’t have the Taliban franchise for America?

John D, who wrote the article in the Atlantic? I missed it.

I’m totally bummed. Jim Acosta was in the company of David Brinkley, Chet Huntley, John Chancellor and Walter Cronkite. A throwback to the days of real journalism. Smart, honest, reliable, intolerant of lies. That CNN relegated him to low-viewership time slots said it all. I’ve lost a friend.

Expand full comment

No he’s just moved over to independent journalism. He’s with The Contrarian and we can help him build his own new media. There’s a marvelous movement happening in response to the times. Acosta says there is such a thing as truth.

Does anyone know anything about "Blue Sky"? Rachel meadow has been plugging it, and Lawrence O'Donald has also joined it.

It’s an alternative to X. It’s great.

Yes!! It’s great & not owned by Bezos, Musk, or Zuckerberg. There are a few trolls on there because so many of us left Xitter, completely deactivated our accounts & even deleted the app from our phones, that they realized it was boring over there without the “Libs” to harass & gaslight.

Just aggressively mute & restrict them, don’t give them oxygen by saying anything to them

Didn't Cronkite end his news program with: "and that's the truth"?

Expand full comment

I think he always said, ‘And that’s the way it is.’ or something close. In those days any time an on-air journalist provided opinion, the word ‘Commentary’ would appear on the screen so we would know that this was not ‘news.’ Oh, for the days of journalistic integrity.

I think that you are right! "and that's the truth", I think is from Lily Thomas-SNL? or "Rowan and Martin's Laugh In". OMG, I am old! (LOL)

I have never been prouder of anyone in the media today than Jim Acosta. I am so proud of him that he did not cave. A man of honor. Thank you Jim 🙏

Steve you need to share the story of the Milwaukee meteorologist who was fired by her television employer because on her own time on her personal social media account she called out Musk for what his Nazi salute was and who he is. Capitulation in the face of a bully.

Having run across an item in USA Today, by Ingrid Jacques, defending T****'s executive order on gender, and having been given an opportunity (?) to get USA Today along with my subscription to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, I have decided to drop that subscription. Any news outlet that will print a defense of any of T****'s EOs is suspect. USA Today: FO.

I have loved Jim Acosta since the The Trump WH in 2016.. He never backed down .. He was the first reporter I heard say that Trump is gaslighting all the time. My feeling back then was Yippee!

Someone is telling the truth.. I watched him on weekends until they moved him to the weekdays and I continued there. I thought at the time they were getting ready to have him be a young Wolf Blitzer .. Nope as you say corporate had no intention .. I cannot watch anything other then Jim and John Berman in the morning. Now that is over.. Scott Jennings is so despicable .. I agree Don Lemon was a nightmare so was Poppy Harlow. CNN is a huge disapointment as is Joe & Mika.. I cannot look at them .. I hope Jim can work as soon as he wants to .. I guess it depends on his contract.. I think we are sliding into an authoritarian state faster then we thought we would.

In a million years I would not ever vote for Trump for anything other than impeachment and removal. The most odious of whores ever in the history of the US. You can have him…

Today, this morning , while driving in, I was saddened that NPR was nearly step by step covering Trumps accounts for last few days.

I thought, if only they had covered Biden that way. Daily reports on what his administration was working to accomplish. But no, the media got on the Trump band wagon to destroy a good man, his family and the work he was doing in service to the country.

It seems it is only the BASE that media seems to play too.

But there are over 70 million people who seek truth in reporting. Just imagine the audience that they could cultivate if they dumped Frump and catered to us.

My fear is that I/we will lose access to the truth tellers, like you Steve. 'They' mess with the internet and as a non-techie, I worry that at some point I will not be able to get to the media I want. Nonetheless, keep going. Resist! Oppose! Stay strong!

Expand full comment

I second this opinion. One by one the truth tellers will be shot down. Project 2025 has been in the making for such a long time that it is a bulldozer to decimate Truth. How can we stay strong and fight back if we're being shuttered and squashed by the lies of Trump and FOX News? Who is heading the Resistance? I believe the Dem leaders are still shell-shocked, blaming each other, and they are allowing Trump to be the dictator he said he would be. I am scared for the future.

These men and women of truth will find a way. They already have.

I stand with Jim Acosta, "Don't give in to the lies, Don't give in to the fear." I stopped watching CNN and the evening news for the simple reason, they gave in to Trump's lies and fear tactics. It is a shame because our news media was once proud and independent. Now they are more interested in the all mighty dollar than in reporting the truth. I am sick of the mendacity of Trump and his fear mongering. Unfortunately for us, Trump now has the Congress and the Courts behind him and no one willing to stand up to his disrespect to the Constitution. We may not be in a position to stand up to Trump as citizens. However, there are things ordinary citizens can do to not give into Trump's fear mongering. We have the absolute right of free speech and the right to ask questions when confronted by his storm troopers. We have the right of assembly and the duty to resist all unjust laws they may try to pass so they look orderly in the court's eyes.

I was saddened to hear Jim Acosta sign off this morning. Pure cowardice and capitulation by CNN. But for god sakes, don't get rid of Scott Jennings. You know, got to keep it fair and balanced. His defense of Musk was insanity in full bloom last night.

I'm confused by your criticism of Don Lemmon for that humorous clip where Rick Wilson outlined what it would take for Trump - and some of his followers - to find Ukraine on a map. Yes - they poked some fun at the Know Nothing's among Trump's cult, but seemed pretty innocent - and hilarious!

Expand full comment

I must admit, I saw that clip live and thought it was hilarious. However, I get Steve's point. Belittling Trump supporters won't change their minds and in fact will likely make them more supportive of Trump since his enemies appear to be mean-spirited elitist snobs.

That’s the point he was making. I believe now that when Hillary called Ts supporters “a basket of deplorables” it turned out to be one of her worst mistakes. People felt condescended to & disrespected, & that’s not how you win elections.
