Steve, you brilliantly brought the reality and gravity of death, and the sanctity of life, home by talking about your son and his friends and showing photos of the young WWII soldiers. I hope this is THE WARNING youtube that goes viral as millions of people need to watch this.

Giving the necessary aid to Ukraine and Israel is HOW we protect the lives of OUR young people for generations to come, so they don't have to go into the battle field themselves. You bring it home!

Your ability to discuss the kidnapping of tens of thousands of Ukrainian children by the Russians by personalizing this by asking "The Warning' viewer, parent or child, how they would feel, and what they would experience, is what is needed for people to be able to FEEL what is going on, including the horrors of people dying around them. You masterfully provoke the power of imagination. President Biden has also been able to personalize war and death. You both are heroes! Thank you.

"This is America." Everytime he says that phrase, I silently add for better or worse.

We are naive to believe there aren't serious problems to address. We are manipulated to believe the only solution is blaming our neighbor.

AND

In this moment one man is governing by telling us the truth. One man is leading us with dignity and grace. One man gives us hope with his confidence.

Sidenote:

Speeches like Biden's last night are why I refuse to second the notion of him bowing out over age (and fear of the politics thereof).

Put it this way: If we live in a world where various democratic parties refuse to push out their leaders over corruption, criminality, and incompetence (Trump, Netanyahu, Orban, Lopez Obrador, etc.), it would be even more absurd if we pushed our decent, conscientious, experienced, and principled leader out over how old he appears on TV, in that context.

It would render our whole era absurd, and a warning (pun intended) to future generations on what not to do, and how not to live.

P.S.: Though I think, based on what you've said previously, you're not so much worried about Biden as a candidate or a president, as you are about his campaign for being invisible.

Certainly, speeches like the one last night, and the principles articulated in them, should be better known and a bigger feather in his cap than they are. And no one's a better champion for that than the candidate, and his campaign, themselves.

Biden, he could be in a coma and I’d vote for him over any member of fascist GOP. For me, until they kick out the wing-nuts who have taken over the party, they are condemned to NO VOTE FOR ANYONE FROM POTUS TO DOG-CATCHER.

A few lines from my favorite poet, Bon Dylan in his song All along the watch tower says it all about misinformation spread by corrupt mouths and media about the events of the day. The hour is getting late if we do not come together and unite against hate and authoritarianism.

No reason to get excited

The thief, he kindly spoke

There are many here among us

Who feel that life is but a joke

But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that

And this is not our fate

So let us stop talkin' falsely now

The hour's getting late,

I shared this verse to in response to the Republican narrative and their dishonesty and disinformation spread by FOX news.

I’ve been a fan of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for a while. He's been an intelligent beacon for truth and compassion for several decades. I’m so happy to see him writing and sharing that gift with the rest of us.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Freedoms_(Rockwell) coincidentally, I looked up FDR's call to arms in his State of the Union speech to Congress on January 6, 1941. Today, it is known as the speech in which the president articulated his vision of the future of the world as having Four Freedoms enjoyed by the peoples of the world, everywhere: Freedom of speech and free expression; Freedom of conscience and to worship God as each individual decides for themselves; Freedom from want and hunger; and Freedom from fear.

Two years later, Norman Rockwell, renoun illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post published four iconic paintings that appeared on four consecutive cover illustrations of the Saturday Evening Post's issues for February 20, 1043; February 27, 1943; March 6, 1943; and March 13, 1943. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Freedoms_(Rockwell).

Reproductions of those paintings became an instant subject of popular acclaim and were used to sell war bonds for thr war effort. Postwar, the paintings came to symbolize what America stood for in the postwar world.

We can control our mind and very little else. We can pursue justice with personal courage. We should recognize that there is evil. The USA must support Ukraine with all we have. Russia is trying to destroy Ukraine and that is a threat to our future. We send and have sent China trillions of dollars for cheap things. We have made them a threat to us. They are not and will not be our friend.

The video is powerful, astute, and chilling. Can we wait another YEAR to end this chaos in our government? As it remains frozen and an object of ridicule around the world, as POTUS fights for the rights and liberties of us all?

1. "Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America."

— Lewis speaking atop the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, on March 1, 2020 https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/john-lewis-quotes/#:~:text=%22You%20are%20a%20light.,and%20the%20enticement%20of%20revenge

When I am being an outspoken noodge about issues in my personal and professional life (lives?), this is my reminder to speak up, do good. From my early teens, John Lewis - and Joan Trumpauer Mulholland (because she was a "Joan" and we wore bandanas the same way) - guided me with their words and actions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Trumpauer_Mulholland

Steve, I’ve said more than a few times on this platform “that may be your very best dispatch yet”. But here I am, again, so impacted by your reference of to “life’s what happens while you’re busy making plans” within John Lennon’s -Beautiful Boy-.

It’s one thing to agree with a writer, but entirely different to be moved by one. You’re a gem.

My youngest son is a junior in high school. Steve’s thoughts about his son are mine as well & it is precisely what I have been going through. I look at my boy, and I think about war. I contemplate him being taken to fight for our country. I never imagined I would follow the same path so many mothers have had to face in the wars before our time.

Steve, you are hitting the nail on the proverbial head, when you talk about focusing on what you can control!

Thank you for such clarity! On many occasions in my podcast, I remind listeners of how much of our thoughts, feelings, and energy are dedicated to controlling that over which we have zero control—everything outside of us!

The only things we can control are our individual thoughts, feelings, and actions…PERIOD!

I will subscribing to KAJ’s writings today. Thanks for reminding me of how profound a man he can be!
