With Fox news hosts being appointed to positions of great power, along with evil incompetents like Noem, Homan, Miller, Zeldin et. al. and the increasing evidence connecting Trump to the sex-trafficking of children by Maxwell and Epstein, and with the economy spiraling toward chaos, hopefully we have reached the point so aptly described by Mr. Shmidt:
"The news has always been about the media that packages the “news” until the “news” overwhelms the packaging, and becomes a fire that consumes everything. No amount of bullshittery can hide what is happening or coming next."
Now is our moment—take action against this harmful government. They are:
• Covering up a pedophile ring.
• Ignoring court orders.
• Spreading corruption.
The poor, the needy, and children are being abused—by our government. Healthcare, already a broken system, was canceled for 13 million. Take to the streets!
We must protest outright crooks and the pedophiles. They will start shooting us. Untrained ICE agents will shoot us. Protest until we go down or we oust these tyrants.
I made 54 protest signs to aid protest groups. I will make many more to share. You will see something different in these signs! Help yourself to this second batch, and share them as far as you can.
“What will America look like three years from now?”
Brilliant Steve, I wish I had high school/college teachers like you; capable of intertwining history, and other relevant topics, so we can relate it to our present predicament, and let it serve as a warning to all of us.
That said, I think we should forget three years and focus on what this country will look like in a year, based on this current trajectory.
I believe we’ve already surpassed Hungary as a competitive authoritarian state. The rule of law gone. The assault on science and higher education continuing. Obeying in advance or the complicity of social media and the MSM. Masked men pulling people; some Americans citizens off the streets in unmarked cars and without warrants, even breaking into homes unannounced and in masks.
Additionally, we have a Supreme Court and federal judiciary in cohoots and allowing Trump to complete a dismantling of our administrative state without even ruling on the constitutionality of these actions.
And finally, a DOJ and FBI that have been weaponized to act as Trump’s personal goon squad, seeking his personal vengeance against all enemies and perceived enemies alike. Not to mention, a Congress which has ceded all of its authority to a wannabe dictator.
These are the actions of banana republic’s or authoritarian kakistocracies; not a healthy, functioning democracy. And with Trump’s tariffs now in effect, and tourism at record lows, we’ll start to feel the pain of Trump’s economic and demonic immigration policies in no time.
Lastly, none of this is going to be good, unless you’re part of Trump’s crony capitalists and Congressional insiders trading and profiting off Trump’s economic agenda, or lack thereof!
FYI: most European countries and Canada have travel advisory warnings for their citizens traveling to the US. We’re being treated like an unstable developing nation that cooks its economic books. Let that sink in!…:)
The effects of project 2025 are like a tsunami. The earthquake happened but it took a while until the waves of said tsunami hit land. This is the waiting period were currently in.
This is what orange TACO and his cabal have started. The wave is coming. Currently no one sees or hears or even fears anything. When the wave hits then we will see if they say, " But, But, but, I didn't vote for THIS. " Yes, you did MAGAKLAN. You voted for this.
TACO Don is the most honest, not honorable, politico the USA has ever produced. He is exactly what he says he is. A fascist as well as a plethora of other things too numerous to mention here.
I am 78 and remember many Life cover pages. They recall the weaknesses and strengths of America and American values have prevailed until Trump. What will life look like in three years in America? America has always had divisions, but none where the president has led a cultural revolution, essentially like that of Mao, and fascist regime. What is happening with the masked thugs is sickening. There is basic acquiescence from the Democratic party to the lawlessness, aside from Gavin Newsom's statements. The courts are of little help in preserving the law under a corrupt Justice Department and Supreme Court. The courts cannot enforce their orders in any event under the Trump regime. If we are able to vote again we may well see some change, despite the lasting impairment of our laws and institutions. Aside from the voting booth all that we can do is express our outrage at demonstrations, which corporate media will not publicize, as it has essentially ignored the horror of the masked and lawless seizures happening across the country.
I agree with most of what you said and especially appreciate your remark about a presidential led cultural revolution. Really perceptive. But I disagree about Dem party acquiescence. Many congressmen, senators and governors have spoken out forcefully but do not have much power to take legislative action until seats in the House are taken back. The top leadership is weak in the form of Chuck Schumer and needs a new face willing to confront Trump's agenda and sycophants aggressively and skillfully. And we must increase numbers in the streets at protests until they simply cannot be ignored.
I also think that Dem leaders must take our message to the cities and towns as AOC and Bernie did on their tour several months ago. They should spend their time talking to the people of the country as opposed to talking to those on the other side of the aisle, who are most definitely not listening and not opposing anything Trump puts forward.
Josette this is how we work together, thank you. No it isn't enough to protest -- this hasn't moved the maga needle. But it DOES move our Dem elected officials to work in concert, so this is people power and representation of what we are saying.
Have to get really creative and face the truth of what we are seeing, not what we hope we are not seeing. Then we can coordinate a movement.
Absolutely blew my mind, broke my heart, changed my life with this essay. I wish I could find a way to contribute as much to the Resistance as you do, Steve Schmidt. The Warning is not fun -- and I'm grateful for it.
Steve: as "news" and content delivery continues to evolve, I find great information now spread out among dozens of sources (such as The Warning). Whereas before I had two subscriptions I leaned on (NYT and WP) I left them when they bent the knee and now I have a dozen or more. While it is much more expensive to subscribe to all these sources, I get what I want without the editorial control of billionaires. Further, their reach dwarf's traditional media, for example, MeidasTouch is on their way to 6 million subscribers and has 115 million monthly downloads. And best of all, at least for now, they are privately owned with no outside investors sucking up to Trump. Thus, truth, the lifeblood of the Republic, can still be found. That more than anything gives me confidence that we will defeat this growing fascism. Keep up the good work.
Blood and ruins, The last Imperial War - Richard Overy
I'm currently reading this now. It's a huge tome of a book, 800 pages. It is however a good read. It really explains WWII and the world that resulted after WWII ended. It's a different teaching and thought process than what most of us were taught.
It's strange to think that in the mid 1940's we agreed with the Soviets that imperialism ( the French and British empires that covered the globe ) had to go. And, a new world order of independent nations that worked together for prosperity and peace was needed.
Well, as we all know, the Soviets went their own way. And the USA promoted the new world order.
But, history repeats itself doesn't it?
In 2025 we have new empires and new dictators fighting the same old battles for resources, land ( liebensraum ) and nationalism. Unfortunately, the USA of 2025 has forgotten its anti-imperialism platform of post WWII. Taxes, tariffs and nationalism were the stuff of the British and French empires. Dictatorships, censorship and nationalism were stuff of 1930's Europe. Yet, almost 100 years later we have forgotten. We've lost our way. Myself as a baby boomer look at my country now and say WTF happened here? How is it that our fellow countrymen / women have forgotten freedom, liberty, rule of law as well as working with independent nations to achieve peace?
I am also a baby boomer, and I often wonder what happened and when it happened while we weren't looking. And then I wonder about those baby boomers who don't seem too concerned.
Most of us Baby Boomers had moms, dads, uncles, aunts that fought either on the home front or the actual front in WWII. We heard about what they suffered through. Of course in our youth we didn't appreciate it then. As we got older most of us did.
That's the point you bring up that hits the nail on the head.
We can and should have our political differences. It's the sign of a thriving healthy democracy. But, we should also always agree on the rules of the game aka rule of law, common decency and civility. That's what a lot of us boomers have lost.
I have a co-worker friend of mine who is a ( not crazy MAGA ) old school conservative. We have had many talks over the years. All of them civil. He will tell you that he disagrees with me about 85% of the time. But, he respects my opinions, as I respect his,. That's because we debate facts, statistics and law's effects and effectiveness. And, we both agree on the rules of the game which is American democracy and rule of law.
A conservative and a liberal as friends? In 2025? Yeah, it happens sometimes
I can't imagine any progressive Democrats or their supporters acting with total disregard for our laws, norms, values, and Constitution just to implement their agenda, which is exactly what Trump is doing.
Dems have their baggage. Just like every political group or party.
However, blatantly flaunting the SCOTUS as well as laws and our traditions of American Democracy is something I can't see them doing either. They may do things for their own personal gain ( Clinton - sex, Menendez - his own bank account ) but when they got caught / busted it was a mea culpa and " my bad " ya got me. They complied with the law and accepted their punishments.
The MAGAKLAN gets caught then they blame others. It wasn't me it was Biden. It wasn't me it was the crazy liberals. Same story. Different day.
Hopefully, Trump will be dead and our country will be on its way to some form of healing from a sick, criminal pedophile that tried to destroy us, but didn’t succeed.
Just like the European Jews of the 1930’s, we are witnessing the descent of a very dark curtain over our society. As to the light on the hill, it has already been extinguished, we offer no longer any kind of guiding light. If anything today, we are an example of everything that can go wrong with a society. Our founders, as wise as they were, never envisioned the presidency as a means to stay out of prison, they thought our checks and balances as well as an educated electorate would prevent that possibility. No one ever anticipated the insipid orange turd, and his hatred of all of the things that have made America great. We have always had our flaws to be sure, but the country that I was born into 78 years ago, had ethicists who motivated us to do things that made the world better. We rebuilt a war torn world, into a world better than before, all the while resisting the scourge of global communism with it’s dehumanization of people under it’s control. The threat to so much that we hold dear is happening not just here in America, but simultaneously in countries all over the world. Perhaps the new world order we envisioned was deeply flawed from the start, I would hope not, so much good was accomplished, but there had to have been openings in it’s structure that allowed what we are seeing today to bear fruit. Now we have an Americanized version of the Gestapo, funded by our inept congress, freely roaming our streets, grabbing people with impudence and sending them to prisons in foreign lands, rule of law be damned. The Supreme Court has set the stage for this to happen, without their decisions dating back to Citizens United, our system of laws would have prevented it. To hold out hope that they might put the brakes on this evolving disaster is a fools wish, they are one of its chief architects. We very well may be headed into another World War, which portends to end civilization as we have known it. 🤬🤬🤬
I keep wondering what America will look like even six months from now. I walk through my neighborhood and drive through my county - the latter of which some consider one of the most beautiful in the country - and life looks "normal", like nothing wrong is going on..... even though most of us are aware that ICE has been at the local Home Depot and traffic is lighter and parks quieter because those who keep everything running have left or are in hiding......or been taken.......We hold protests regularly and hold "discussions" on public forums and do all the things like calling/writing our representatives who DO hold town halls ........ but ......... I keep waiting for the next shoe to drop.......

I explained to him that I was taught that there was 3 sections of the government that established a Checks and Balances on each other. I firmly believed that it would be that way forever.
Sadly, I am mistaken. There are no more checks and balances. The 3 divisions of government are supposed to police the other so that no one gets too powerful. That's all gone now. It didn't happen just because Trump showed up. There were warnings that we didn't pay attention to.
As far as the disgusting ballroom is concerned. Trump does not own the White House. There is no puchase and sale agreement turning it over to him to do what he wants. I don’t think the government of the United States works any longer. The Supreme Court is incredibly corrupt now, thanks to Mitch McConnell. Wyoming has a population of 587,000 but has two MAGA Senators, the same number of Senators as California, a state with a population of 39,430,000. That no longer works, either.
Sadly I have no idea what we will look like three years from now. I am terrified for our country . I will do whatever I can to save our democracy . Thank You Anthony..I think Roberts and company should just come out say we will not be following the constitution. This is the country we want and Trump is the man for the job. Just say it and get it over with . instead of the press acting like they might not be corrupt. It is sickening.

Non electable
He is the VP and automatically becomes president if the president dies.
There seems to be a change in your message: that this can never happen here to this has already happened here. And now, what can we do about it?
Seeing one of our former respected political parties become subservient to this president is probably the most disturbing part of all this.
A superb and timely reflection. Thanks!
