There is an aspect of stoic philosophy where practitioners visualize negative events so as to prepare for them, be ready for them, and perhaps avoid them.
Looking ahead, what are the three most dangerous issues facing President Biden that we know of, and what are the three issues that may already be known, but are going to get bigger, and shape the election in ways yet unseen?
Marshall McLuhan was almost prophetic when he wrote “the medium is the message”. I believe the biggest issues facing Joseph Biden are two fold. A moderate to liberal news media that looks for the hair in the egg. They would have you believe him old, incompetent, the cause of all problems. All the while giving oxygen to the former guy and continuing to lower the bar. The narrative should be changed since the SOTU but not enough. In the other hand we have the gaslighting of America. Where hating your fellow American is mistaken for patriotism. Where the narrative is driven by anger, division and cruelty. If Biden should lose this election history will look for reasons. I think old Marshall will be referenced. Thank you for continuing to shine a light on these issues.
This country is broken and I have my doubts about whether it can ever be repaired.
I follow elections in my state and the person nominated by the Republican Party to head the State Public School System is a QAnon Believer who has called for the execution of Democrats.
The operating word in your post is "nominated." Not elected yet. Please, become proactive and disparage that republican rhetoric, in public, everyday, every way. Many of these extremists are losing across the country as soon as people become aware of their agendas.
That was exactly my reply. If we wig out at just the nominee instead of pointing out just how awful that person is and how great an alternative Democrat is, the hope is already lost. Get to work!
I point out every day to anyone that will listen to me that we have to defeat the hateful, unhinged people. It is not a political statement in my view, but a statement of humanity. I cannot have a Governor here who despises gay people and uses crude hateful language against them. This is a man of the cloth? I have much work to do and hopefully we can send this obnoxious disgrace to a huge loss.
DISTURBED, is more likely the word to be used. How someone is so mentally ill to speak of killing someone that does not agree with them, is literally outside the realm normality...... What should be brought up is, that people who say things like this DO NOT BELONG IN A COUNTRY THAT RENDERS "FREEDOMS" TO ITS PEOPLE. THEY HAVE NO PLACE IN THIS SOCIETY! THEIR RHETORIC MUST BE DEFINED TO ALL AND SUGGESTED THAT THOSE PERSONS SHOULD BE OUSTED FROM THE U.S. BECAUSE OF IT!!!!
I don't know about John D., but in my state (Tennessee) a Republican nomination means a Republican election in any almost every county or district outside Memphis or Nashville. And I am proactive, but progress here is hamstrung by warped gerrymandering and a Republican supermajority in almost all chambers of government. It's very, very hard to fight and win here.
Two far-right school board members of the Orange Unified School District in Orange, CA, were both recalled big-time for their views on the LGBT community. So at least there is a bright spot somewhere.
In my pre-ordained red district in a blue state I am watching ‘the predetermined elect’ defund the police department. The selling off of democratic institutions has begun. It’s almost pornographic to watch.
Are you in NC too? Our candidate for Supt of Public Instruction home schools her children and has called the public school system an evil indoctrination system.
You’re exactly right to make this point. So tired of these wiseacres pronouncing our doom all day. I think it makes them feel like frontiersmen or something.
That is a fair point and accurate. But I have a sense that it is larger than the Republican Party. I watched a majority of voters in my state elect someone as Lieutenant Governor who is completely and unequivocally unfit to hold that office.
Is that the guy who has been nominated by the Republicans to run for governor of North Carolina? He's the guy that advocated taking the right to vote from all women in the United States.
Well I was thinking in terms of The Federalist Society (1982) and Justice Antonin Scalia (1986). I'm sure it might have started earlier but I think Scalia was when the train started going off the tracks.
1. CITIZENS UNITED ... our elites in corporate & industry, and those that have bought shares in our Justice System will flex and bend their will with more precision as the stakes are high for them.
2. DISINFORMATION both foreign and domestic will further feed our fears, our racisms, our insecurities, our hates. Remnants of the manipulating and dishonest Swift Boat people are alive and well here, not to mention Putin and his mini-me's.
3. Our R CONGRESS coupled with our ELECTORAL COLLEGE is poised to voluntarily and willingly ignore the Will of the People.
Don't forget the gerrymandering across our nation! The former GOP, now the MAGAs, are nothing but cheats! And their leader, a convicted rapist, is the worst cheater of them all! If I were the judges, I would say: "enough is enough", and give him a hefty jail sentence. That just may shut up the MAGAs; however, right now, they feel powerful!
The three biggest issues facing the election are Israel; Right-wing and social, Media, third party candidates.
Israel is becoming an albatross around Biden’s neck. He’s losing the Muslim and youth vote. And this will have major consequences in several swing states like MI and PA.
Right-wing media and social media, are amplifying debunked stories about Biden, Israel and Ukraine, while simultaneously defending Trump and downplaying many of his current pending trials, corruption, misogyny and positions on abortion, and immigration.
Right-wing media outlets have also been bought by billionaires with ties to Trump; such as Univision and The Baltimore Sun. They’re changing their programming to be pro-Trump and anti-neutral, and is already re-shaping opinions for Trump in the black and Hispanic communities.
And lastly, third party candidates could tip the scales for Trump because of the Israel war and political dysfunction. It hurt Hillary in 2016, and could easily be a major factor in 2024.
Other issues that may seem minuscule and potentially be dangerous have been the courts; voter suppression laws. States legally trying to steal the election by changes voter laws (over 200 state election laws have been enacted after 2020). Election official intimidation which has already led to the loss of over 25% of experienced poll workers and election officials. 20 red states leaving ERIC, which cross checked interstate voting registration to make sure people aren’t registered in two or more states.
Foreign interference using social media and cyberattacks could play a role as well.
Robert: About your Israel remark: Russia started the war with Ukraine (which is a democratic country). Hamas started the war with Israel (which is a democratic country). See a pattern here? Hamas thought they were being very clever because they knew that you and people like you will support the underdog every time. And so, that ignorance on your part has been exploited. Japan (not a democratic country in 1941) attacked Pearl Harbor (considered part of a democratic country). The next day (December 8th, 1941) the United States declared war on Japan. Subsequently, many Japanese women and children (and men) were killed by American bombs. They were the underdogs and if there were Americans like you appear to be you'd call for an immediate cease fire. Is that correct?
Gary, no one is debating who started both wars. The question is whether carpet bombing a civilian area is the appropriate response.
Hamas is an evil entity, dedicated to the destruction of Israel, Israel is a democratic nation and a never of the UN; it must act appropriately.
Do you see Ukraine bombing Moscow or St. Petersburg as their response to Putin’s aggression? No!
Israel cannot destroy an idea. They are creating more future terrorists than currently exist, and losing the support of almost the entire world in the process.
And Netanyahu and his right-wing government are no better than Hamas. They want to expel at least half of the 2.4 million population; and rebuild settlements in Gaza. Additionally, they continue to expand illegal settlements in the West Bank, and continue a stranglehold on both populations.
I love and support Israel, I don’t support its current government; the same way I love America, but despise Trump and the MAGS mob.
The country has been devastated by the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine which required all broadcasts to balance one sided political content with equal amounts from the opposite side Once this was eliminated hosts like Limbaugh, Levine Hannity were able to destroy political dialouge by infusing it with entertainment- mostly “us vs them”, “ me vs you”. The entertainment proved excellent for ratings. But it super charged many Americans with an over caffeinated, divisive, visceral approach to politics. Many Americans listen to these entertainers, vote out of hate and, in turn, elect “haters” to public office. Then, our political pundits moan because the “haters” elected to public office won’t take a stand on principle against the Far Right. So, this is the biggest problem - if not the actual issue.
When they publicize Trump comparing himself to messiah without a blink, and talk incessantly, the exaggerated lies about Biden including Hur’s, you know we have wandered off far from the Fairness Doctrine, and left behind common honesty and decency in press freedom.
Eric: "...the Fairness Doctrine... required all broadcasts to balance one sided political content with equal amounts from the opposite side..."
Despite the toxic results you mention, I for one am glad to see the Fairness Doctrine gone. Thing is, how would you justify broadcasting an "equal amount" of Trump's absolute lies versus any other reportage on his poisonous toxicity?
In Helsinki, Trump said, ""President Putin says it's not Russia. I don't see any reason why it would be." What a complete dick! He later lied, claiming he said "...why it wouldn't be." The current mainstream media knows Trump better and doesn't let him get away with his demonstrable BS. Yes, the media landscape is polluted. It's unfortunate so many people don't seem to be aware they're consuming toxic trash.

There seems to be a glitch. I AM a paid subscriber and your articles usually open automatically but this one was asking me to upgrade. FWIW, I am Canadian and absolutely terrified about what is happening in the US and consequently spilling over into our country with the likes of Poilievre et al. Beyond words when I consider how Garland and the DOJ have failed the WORLD.
I think it's just an upgrade button, any Substacks I pay for still show the button in case I want to upgrade to "Founders level" or whatever it would be called.
A bit off topic, sorry, but I just want to point out to those thinking "Biden's health" may be an issue, it shouldn't be. If you are ever a passenger on a plane, you are assured there is a co-pilot to assist or take over the controls, just as there is a Vice President. A few Presidents have met their demise in office, we have survived the events unscathed. As far as Biden's health and age...please... I show you exhibit B... Trump - who has abused his body and his health to this day, who is genetically exposed and frail to Alzheimers, whose mental health and acuity has been on display unfavorably. Biden's age, health and "forgetfulness" are mere fawning fears... stop being fearful of someone supporting our rights, our economy, our democracy.
Looking in from the outside, the most dangerous issues facing Biden is the chance that Trump will not be tried for his egregious crimes and will walk away a free man to face him in the upcoming election. Next would be Trump stealing the election and finally the total collapse of American democracy with a civil war ensuing.
1. Growing disinformation will continue to degrade confidence in facts and have devastating consequences.
2. Accelerating climate change will destroy communities, driving hunger, drought, desperation and violence. Ensuing migration/Immigration will become unsustainable.
3. Theocracies will rise up in a cynical exploitation of growing fear and uncertainty. Perhaps in our own country.
4. Contraception will be outlawed in US.
5. The draft will be reinstated in US.
6. Dissent will be outlawed in US.
7. Prisons will become death chambers as extreme heat makes them unsurvivable.
8. Water will run out in major cities.
9. Power grids will be overwhelmed by huge computing centers and bitcoin mines.
I could go on, but, none of this will move the needle in this Congress. Vote.
1. Why even when Democrats are in power it feels like they’re always playing defense.
2. Why they keep losing elections they should win easily.
3. Why with 91 counts Trump is not only a candidate, but why nobody in the msm is questioning how someone with multiple potential prison sentences hanging over his head keeps polling evenly against someone with barely a blemish on his life.
The trouble in the House of Representatives stems from the plan to change votes at the state level thus pushing the decision for President to the House (as outlined in the Constitution). The plan is for the House to pick the President!
And the change to the NC Elections Board is to remove the governor's right to appt the majority of its members, and allow the legislature to appt a 50/50 split. Thus handing any deadlocked decisions to the gerrymandered ruby red legislature to decide. It's in the courts now and will go next to the NC Supreme Court that has been stacked in the last few years with R candidates, one of which is the son of the state senate majority leader. Gotta love it!
Interestingly, Johnson withholding Ukraine aid to please Trump and Putin has a deadly endgame of defeating Ukraine. And with that to defeat Biden. And in anticipation of American backing out of support for NATO and Ukraine, the EU countries along with NATO members are ramping up their efforts to help Ukraine gain the upper hand before Trump’s chance of return. So Europeans have hardened their support for Ukraine amidst Putin’s final death throes. Putin continues to suffer monumental losses of assets, military personnel, all the while he lost many of his backers, especially Prigozhin and other killed or assassinated previous allies. While his main oil resources are now burning inside Russia, he is saddled with paying for exorbitant cost of the war. He no longer has valued friends in developed nations and cannot trust everyone close to him. His only hope is to help Trump who is cash strapped and is willing to be subordinated by the likes of Putin.
We have traitors in our midst and Mike Johnson is one of them. Not beholden to the Constitution or this country. Beholden only to some warped Christianity that exalts Putin as the world’s traditional values leader.
Trump will continue to harp on the immigration issue, despite the fact that HE is the reason it is still an issue. Which brings up the REAL most dangerous issue -- low information voters. Thinking people around the country continue to scratch their heads about how in the world others can still support Trump. Are they insane? Are they incredibly stupid? Are they white supremacists? Anarchists? Are they all fascists?
It is more likely most of them just do not follow what is going on in the country, not realizing the import of this time or the real danger that Trump represents.
Fortunately, I have some confidence that as the election comes closer, the news and coverage will become so pervasive that the low information voter will not be able to remain ignorant of the poisonous stench emanating from Trump and the Republican/Trumpian party.
As a Canadian I don’t know what are the three most dangerous issues threatening your President, Joe Biden. But I would venture to say that the answer is ANYTHING that enables the sleazy and despicable Donald Trump to be re-elected as POTUS.
I’m getting the upgrade button as a paid subscriber too. Is this post only 2 paragraphs? I’m going to assume that it is, and that the discussion is the point.
So, the three most dangerous issues are:
1 - The “horse race” coverage of the election as if there is no real difference between Biden and Trump. This includes calling people like Marjorie Taylor Green conservative instead of Radical Right Wing. Words matter a lot!
2 - Dark money in the election, that was turned into an unlimited flow by Citizens United. The way that Super PACs can spend completely warps the truth.
3 - Post truth in America. To eve, the most casual observer, what DJT incited on Jan 6 was an insurrection, I would even say failed coup/rebellion. Yet most republicans and even some independents deny this.
I think the one that will get bigger is the Trump takeover. The Republican Party is now 100% a Trump business. It’s likely to become extremely toxic before it (hopefully) implodes.
How do we get the media to show more of Trumps unhinged rants from his rallies? The media narrative of Biden's age needs this visual/aural counterweight.
The massive, literal, gaslighting of an entire nation. This is having a huge effect on everyone and will get worse. A political party that is authoritarian, certainly fascist, features Christian Nationalism to guide government and wallows in idolatry to a leader. Finally, 3, Biden has very little control over world events, other countries (good luck telling Netanyahu what to do!) and could go down the way Jimmy Carter did with the Iran hostage clusterfuck.....which, by the way was masterminded by the GOP.
FOX is a major problem, Democrats not speaking out more about the lies of the Republicans and the many good people staying silent. There is a quote which I may have it partially wrong, "it's not the evil people who destroy countries, it's the good people who stay silent."
1. His age: he needs to continually exhibit his mental and physical acuity.
2. Israel/Palestine: he needs to listen to and engage Muslim Americans, to get food aid to Gaza ASAP; and to continue pressuring the Israeli government, while showing support for the survival of Gaza and the West Bank. (We have too long supported Israel’s bullying. It is sabotaging its own survival in its Middle East neighborhood.)
3. He needs to advocate for all the Americans Trump and the MAGA movement trash - to speak of freedoms for women, LGBTQs, racial, ethnic, and religious minorities - and to foster educational and economic opportunities for all.
3. Cynical, or ignorant (and terribly spoiled) Americans.
The ignorant Americans are deceived, and very proud. If Jane Goodall's research tells us anything, it's likely the angry mob won't get sober until millions are dead (and sadly, they won't even be sorry they did it).
I don't think white America not being "woke" enough is the hidden problem in this country. I was born in 1952. A lot has changed in my life especially in increased understanding by white America of abuses heaped on African Americans, Native Americans, and non Standard sexuality Americans. Certainly the system is not crushing women and openly gay people as it had in my youth. While there clearly are still problems, things are better.
What has gotten much worse is the lack of social conscience of our Business leaders and the lack of national loyalty of our corporations. When we focus on the reality of remaining racism instead of the reforming our capitalist free enterprise system, we allow the Billionaire class to divide us. We need to be "woke" as to how the power of money influences our government and our culture. T
Thanks Thomas, I know WOKEness is primarily about racial justice, and gender issues - or awareness of ones prejudices toward people, and that should include awareness of financial fairness. I'm a 1954 model, and I can see the improvement in the treatment, but some of that is just the pressure from the law - favoritism that keeps people down is still there (some of that is natural, to promote those who one likes or identifies). I guess that would apply to people who are not white too. G
" The only thing necessary for the triumph of Evil is for good people to do nothing . So don't be inactive " This is a quite from Alexei Navalny
Trump and MAGA are evil. The rest of us must vote to be sure Trump never get's to the White House, and MAGA candidates for ANY elected position are defeated !
My 3 most dangerous issues facing President Biden are:
1. American voters not voting in November.
2. Not supporting Ukraine.
3. The leaders of Russia, China, North Korea, Hungry.
The 3 issues that are already know, but will get worse:
1. Our democracy will get weaker, because of lack of leadership in Washington-while authoritarians/the Trump family, Bannon, Steven Miller, etc., get stronger.
2. Trump will avoid being put on trial, and/or he will pardon himself if reelected.
3. Our allies will turn their backs on us, because they can no longer trust the U. S. and its people
Right to the heart of the message doc S. Marshall McLuhan was someone studied in my first university experience in a major called communication arts during the late 1960’s Life has taken me from that formal avenue of study but lessons learned have defined looking to the world of politics, especially the past eight years.
Living on the Central California Coast political bubble limits most of the daily exposure to the media crazy & leaves me to be a contributor to fair minded & thinking candidates who look beyond the sound bites & self full-filled victimhood to solve real life problems for now & future Americans.
1. Gaza. 2. Weaponization of social media (especially Tik-Tok debate). 3. Oligarchs rigging economy (gas prices, cost of living, etc.) to make it look bad for Biden.
Some events/issues I think could sabotage Biden's election:
1) Gaza is a no-win situation for Biden. Allowing Hamas to continue to exist with any capacity to harm Israelis is untenable. Allowing Israel to annihilate Palestine is untenable. No matter what happens to Palestinian refugees, I think it is unlikely that either the Israeli or Palestinian public can be convinced that a two-state solution is the correct solution, which is Biden’s preferred outcome. How could either believe a structure could be put in place that would protect them from the other?
2) If the Biden administration fails to bring home the message about what fascism is, how a country moves from democracy to authoritarianism and what that will mean for every American citizen if democracy falls in the U.S. – which it will if Trump is re-elected – there are enough people focused on other things, like whether Biden makes the right decisions about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, who will stay home on voting day or cast a protest vote for a third party candidate or a write-in, and we will have Trump for a president.
3) Congress’ failure to address misinformation and disinformation on social media and use of personal data against its users in a sane way is a problem that is not being addressed with the urgency needed. The House wants to force the Chinese company that owns Tik-Tok to sell it. What if a group of investors on the far right buys it? Will people see a bill like that as censorship and feel further alienated from their government? Why isn’t the U.S. government passing laws that protect user data and limit dis-information generally? If they do, will there be conspiracy theories that create blow-back that effects democrats' electability, particularly Biden’s?
4) Chances are good we will see a big spike in Haitian refugees at our border we are NOT ready for. If the Biden administration fails to make the case that it is republican’s refusal to take yes for an answer on border security legislation that is the problem, republicans will use the spike in refugees at our border against Biden. If the U.S. attempts to help restore order and stem the flow of refugees, they will also say the U.S. has no business using our resources and personnel in Haiti.
5) Failure to get people to understand that the institutions we depended on to protect us and our democracy are no longer working precisely because they have been infected by a movement that does not even want democracy. The message should be that we, the people, ARE THE CALVARY. We MUST vote for the lesser of the two evils if we aren’t excited about Biden and allow a new party to rise from the ashes to replace what has become of the old republican party. A protest vote is a vote for precisely what they do not want. If people fail to understand it is a binary choice now, we will have Trump. They should take the arthritic stutterer over Trump any day. (I personally believe Biden has delivered for us. But that is beside this point.)
1. Immigration, hundreds of boats headed to the USA, loaded with tired, poor, hungry Haitian immigrants yearning to breathe free, many of whom will die during the perilous freedom journey. (Trump will definitely use this against Biden, here come the rapists and murderers, I am the only one who can protect you. I can see it now).We have to be proactive and get a peacekeeping force in there to restore safety and provide food for the Haitian people until we can get the Haitian police force on its feet and a democratic election is held. The peace keeping force made up of U.S., Canada, French, and Brits.
2. Social Media- It’s helping to destroy Democracy. I just don’t understand how we allow China and Russian to use it to influence the American people and rip our people and Democracy apart. In WW2 do you think FDR and the American military would have allowed Hitler and Goebbels to communicate via radio with the American people morning, noon and night? We dither while Rome burns. A forced sale of Tik Tok should have happened years ago. Why would a foreign gov’t invest in a social media company? The answer is obvious. But I don’t know how you do this, perhaps banning of bots. How can a bot have first amendment rights.
3. Political malpractice- not visiting Wisconsin. But I highly doubt this will happen. President Biden has some sharp people surrounding him. It wouldn’t hurt to have a War room staffed with Steve Schmidt, Carville, Begalla, and Pfeiffer.
Consider the possibility that Trump cannot be stopped. Then consider the possibilities including his word “bloodbath”. America has never let an enemy just take them. What about this time? Many pundits say Maybe. Others say Yes. Do you care? Or is it Whatever? There is no more important question. So find your answer.
Our work is absolutely critical. Below is the latest from this miscreant:
Former President Donald J. Trump, at an event on Saturday ostensibly meant to boost his preferred candidate in Ohio’s Republican Senate primary race, gave a freewheeling speech in which he used dehumanizing language to describe immigrants, maintained a steady stream of insults and vulgarities and predicted that the United States would never have another election if he did not win in November.
“Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a blood bath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a blood bath for the country.”
I’m very disappointed, and I don’t know who to complain to. I posted a comment to Steve’s newsletter yesterday about Senator Schumer’s courageous speech on the Senate floor Thursday regarding Israel that I wanted him and all of The Warning subscribers to see, and when I checked the Comments section about half an hour after I posted it, my comment was not there. This is not fair. I pay money every month so that I can read what Steve and the other subscribers to this daily newsletter have to say, and also because I want Steve and these subscribers to see what I have to say. Please do not let this happen again.
I was concerned when I read this because I never remove any comments from this forum. I just checked, and your comment is there. I would share a photo of it here, but Substack doesn’t allow you to post pictures in the comments section. Please scroll through them again, and you’ll see that it is in fact there.

OMG! She should not have that job!
If a majority of voters in this state decide she is the person to run the public school system, then they deserve her.
Problem is that they are not in public schools. We have voucher now for private schools for anyone making less than$150k.
Yes.
Deplorable.
And we should capitalize on that! NOW is the time for democrats to get their sh*t in a pile once and for all!

The Supreme Court is also broken. It started with the first Originalist/Christianist.
Well I was thinking in terms of The Federalist Society (1982) and Justice Antonin Scalia (1986). I'm sure it might have started earlier but I think Scalia was when the train started going off the tracks.
There is a new book out by Justice Stephen Breyer reviewed in todays NYT. Interesting.

1. Republicans lying
2. FOX
3. Stupid, gullible Americans
I think 3 should be moved to 1.
It's a three-way tie.
Aren't these 3 in one, like the Holy Trinity? Republicans: God(s), FOX: Jesus, Stupids: The Holy Spirit(s).

Well said.
True, and with the Internet in addition to cable, I don't know how it could be accomplished now.
As far as dangerous issues looking ahead, I see three:
1. Trump wins in November.
2. Trump loses in November and declares Civil War.
3. Civil War starts.

Only paid subscribers can engage in the discussion or make comments. I think the post is intended to motivate members to engage in discussing the questions
Thanks, Mom 😊
This is a discussion thread for paid subscribers only. Hopefully free subscribers will want to join the conversation and become engaged members of The Warning community.
Your son
There seems to be a glitch. I AM a paid subscriber and your articles usually open automatically but this one was asking me to upgrade. FWIW, I am Canadian and absolutely terrified about what is happening in the US and consequently spilling over into our country with the likes of Poilievre et al. Beyond words when I consider how Garland and the DOJ have failed the WORLD.
Lolololol…You are sweet, Mom
We ARE paid subscribers. The site doesn't seem to recognize that. We can't read the full article, so can't comment....
Well, now I understand that those paragraphs ARE the full article. The comments are meant to fill out the question, which they certainly have!
Me too
I am also a paid subscriber being asked to upgrade to paid. Looks like a glitch on the site.
Me, too!
me, too!
Me too.
Ditto.
Me too. Can't the programmer of that remark about upgrading check first to see if we already have done so?
Me too. Just ignore it.
Yeah -- Can't get past the first two paragraphs! Looks like a good one!
I think the two are it...wants you to find 3 issues...go for it, Cougar.
Is paying for this worth it?
I think it's just an upgrade button, any Substacks I pay for still show the button in case I want to upgrade to "Founders level" or whatever it would be called.
1. The fall of Ukraine.
2. A serious personal health issue.
3. Stock market crash.
And I believe Kamala Harris would be formidable if not under the shadow of Biden. She is not given enough credit.
Right On!!
Looking in from the outside, the most dangerous issues facing Biden is the chance that Trump will not be tried for his egregious crimes and will walk away a free man to face him in the upcoming election. Next would be Trump stealing the election and finally the total collapse of American democracy with a civil war ensuing.
Agreed. The incompetence of Merrick Garland and Fani Willis is infuriating. Makes me think they're working for the other side.
What we know to be threats:
1. Ukraine
2. Israel
3. Immigration
What could become threats:
1. Biden’s health
2. Russia moving into NATO territory
3. Homegrown terrorist attack on US
Interestingly, Johnson withholding Ukraine aid to please Trump and Putin has a deadly endgame of defeating Ukraine.
Israel, Haiti, Taiwan and immigration come to mind.
Threats to Biden:
1) price of food and homes
2) border
3) Israel/Gaza
Known threats that will get worse:
1) religious fanaticism
2) racism/antisemitism
3) misogyny
Hatred is intensifying.
What I'm doing:
1. Donating to Biden campaign
2. Talking to everyone, especially MAGA. Trying to persuade folks to vote for democracy, not Trump.
3. Staying rational, staying committed. It's time to pledge "lives, fortunes, and sacred honor" to America.
1a) The possibility that tRump may be re-elected
2a) Israel/Hamas
3a) The growth of fascism in the US

Ah, the three most dangerous issues....
Well, one can hope.
What corporate America will throw at him, they want a loser trump so they can keep milking Americans even more!
1) Conservative judges and Justices
2) Age-issue propaganda
3) Third-party candidates
4) The Israel Palestine war
Issues facing Biden:
1. Funding Ukraine
2. Navigating the Middle East wars — including dealing with Iran’s support for Hamas and the Hoothis
3. The southern border
Issues that may loom larger this year:
1. Railroad safety (re: more derailments based on inadequate regs)
2. Protection of election workers
3. Surprise activities by North Korea
I'm paid as well. Hopefully the 'computer mind' will figure it out for us? Let's see...
So appreciate your heart toward this country and its people Steve. Dig in and keep it coming my man!

Today’s title “What Lies Ahead?” struck me doubly. What are the events, troubles, etc. ahead and what are the lies we may be exposed to in the future?
I'm on board with all these dangers.
But I'd like to emphasize the danger of unforced errors. (ie. Fani Willis, keeping Biden out of sight, etc.).
We have enough to worry about with threats from the opposition. Everyone on the side of justice and democracy is beholden to not act irresponsibly.
World war III, Civil War, and Space Wars. :-) Couldn't think of a rational third war as big as the first two.
civil unrest and violence encouraged by djt; empowered white supremacy
1. Lack of WOKEness.
2. Lack of people who know what WOKE means.
3. Cynical, or ignorant (and terribly spoiled) Americans.
The ignorant Americans are deceived, and very proud. If Jane Goodall's research tells us anything, it's likely the angry mob won't get sober until millions are dead (and sadly, they won't even be sorry they did it).
Gordon,
I don't think white America not being "woke" enough is the hidden problem in this country.

S. and its people
to do what is right!
Right to the heart of the message doc S.

Ignorance Apathy Incompetence
Also political violence from DT and MAGA
So many great answers here, Agenda 2025 comes to mind as a danger.
Sincerely,

David,
I was concerned when I read this because I never remove any comments from this forum. I just checked, and your comment is there. I would share a photo of it here, but Substack doesn’t allow you to post pictures in the comments section. Please scroll through them again, and you’ll see that it is in fact there.
Steve
I predict these 3 issues may get bigger in the coming months:
1) Foreign election interference.
2) Armed militia intimidation at Big City polling locations.
3) Stochastic Terrorism "the likes of which have never been seen before."
