Great work Steve! As we watch our Fascist Orange Clown “speak” to the world today at Davos, please remember our glorious past of the past 250 years and commit ourselves to that past and work to rid ourselves of the current pestilence!!!

M3333's avatar

Listening to the Orange Clown tell the Davos crowd that he won the 2020 election (LIE) and that the people of Greenland should be glad that we will take them over (LIE)!!! What a fricking embarrassment!!!

Mwfeiger's avatar

Every time he says a number/statistic, it is a LIE. No exceptions. The audience at Davos should have gotten up and fled the room leaving Gavin Newsom the only audience member who at the end, doesn't clap, but says, "What the fuck is wrong with you?"

Mary Roeser's avatar

Every syllable out of his mouth is a lie.

Somewhere in the USA a psychiatric ward is looking for a lost patient.

Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth will never succeed in erasing our history unless we allow it to happen. Because it is not all glorious, we must come to terms with every piece of the truth. Specifically we need to look at and learn from all of the religious and racial idiocy that continues to haunt us every day. It's way past time to grow up.

We are not perfect. Our founders knew that. It’s exactly why the words “…….In order to form a more perfect union….” were put in the US Constitution.

Big mistakes have been made by us in the past. Huge. At times unbelievable. But, our system of govt has always made it a CQI ( constant quality improvement) system.

The orange imbecile and his MAGANAZIs have demolished our CQI system. They have turned a system that while not perfect can and does correct itself over time. We are currently living in an American NAZI dictatorship. The parallels of history here are astounding and not hard to see.

Beer Hall putsch - Jan 6

Sudetenland annex , Anschulus of Austria - Greenland, Canada, Venezuela

The SS, Gestapo, SA - ICE, Homeland Security, FBI

The cult of personality ( only I can fix it ) - ditto

The scapegoating of groups for a nation’s problems - ditto

Control of the media, art, expression - ditto

I could go on and on but the items listed would take up too much space on this page. Sadly, this list expands everyday.

Wow Steve! What a powerful piece this morning! You have me crying!

Same reaction here, Joseph

Eva E Shidle's avatar

Joseph, that is exactly my reaction.

I cry quite often when reading history as seen through Steve’s eyes. We are a nation of immigrants and, in the case of our black brethren, people shipped in the holds of slave ships. We cannot thank our ancestors enough and we must take courage from them as we fight to right the United States ship of state!

Punkette's avatar

Thank you, Larry. 🥹👍🏼

Hear ya. I choke up and need Kleenex on practically a daily basis. Steve has made a better American out of me.

Agree. It’s amazing!

Senator Ted Cruz said he supports the takeover of Greenland by the United States. Thank you, once again Texas, for electing this asshole when you could have given the country a good and honorable man named Colin Allred.

The people getting elected in Red States are dooming the country.

Michael's avatar

The people voting for them have ultimate responsibility. I hate to say it this way, but I despise them.

What a sad state of affairs that in one year the Trump administration has undone centuries of our march to a country of equality and freedom. Instead this administration is returning us to a bigoted male white nationalist country from our origins. Yes, the originalists are happy but for how long?

It's a tragedy and we may be crushed, imprisoned, or killed for standing up to this administration but stand up we must for those who have gone before and those who will follow.

You are an amazing journalist and commentator, and this is truly one of your BEST. Thank you 😊 You

What an inspiring piece to wake up to this morning Steve!! Thank you so much. One of your greatest yet. "Let's hold the line" against the worst America has ever seen so we can be our BEST again. I know it's going to take a ton of work and it's probably going to get worse before it gets better but with Leaders like you and others reminding us of the incredible Heroes who have gone before us lighting the way, we CAN do this!!! No matter what kind of idiotic costume Hegseth walks around in in a stupid AI meme or whose names he tries to erase from the Historic record. We know the REAL truths.

Thanks for another powerful History lesson this cold Wednesday morning. We love you and appreciate ALL you do for us!!!

♥️🇺🇸💙

Powerful. How to revive this history to the half of the US that is basically uneducated and the 35-40% who are under the evil spell of a racist hateful dictator?

Edward Jay Allan's avatar

Two words.

Thank you.

A few more words. Thank you for this inspiring declaration and reminder. It may take the rest of this century to recover some of what a decade of committed degeneracy has trumped.

I love these history lessons that inspire and remind us that our country can and will prevail over this MAGA insanity. Liberace’s love child was hysterical. You made me laugh and cry.

Hegseth looks like a cartoon character in that depiction of him as a super villain. What kind of childish mind sees that image as inspiring?

Nannette glaze's avatar

As is all of your work, this is an excellent piece. Thank you so very much for being a truth teller with a keen eye for the country’s past and present. To my mind our future is perilous. Most days the despair of watching the cruelty and evil is overwhelming.

Steve, thank you for the story of how the power of an ideal can unite and demonstrate the inherent strength of diversity. When we accept diversity in our population it affords everyone, no matter, color, creed, ethnic background, or sexual preference the opportunity to develop their talents, become the best they can, thus contributing to truly making our country great.

It is inspiring that someone, with whom I would no doubt disagree on some issues, born fifteen or so after me, has the ability to not only educate on crucial historical events but drives home the realization that Americans have way more reasons to be united than divided.

I learn something new everyday that I read his messages and for that, I am grateful. He is the Thomas Paine of this age. And the new dawn liberty and freedom is at hand.

Just read a couple dozen comments here ... all pre-saying exactly what I was about to write: Thank you, Steve; a powerful piece this morning; made me cry; you're a master history-teller. More of this, please. It's sometimes true that words REALLY MATTER and you've channeled the great spirits in your message today. You are showing the pathway to deep new understandings about the gifts we have been given in America ... to be earned yet again in community and communication ... when the scourge has passed. p.s. I ordered "American"; can't wait to read it.

Punkette's avatar

Well said, Jenny. I ordered “American” too. I am a WW2 aviation buff and am excited to read it. RIP, General Davis. 🇺🇸

This collective insanity of these miscreants will be written. The title will be "The Worst Generation" and when we reach the end of this membership of madness they will not be remembered well but only become footnotes when historians correct the memory they tried to erase.

Rick A.'s avatar

Yes, yes, yes, Steve!!! Made me cry. You are so eloquent and passionate. Yes, we need another Greatest Generation for sure. But the Depression/ WW 2 folks are for sure still are that GG to me. I was born in 1953, so they are my parents’ generation. In fact, my late father in law, who died at age 55 in 1981, was a 19 year old Pfc radioman in the 5th Marine Division on Iwo Jima. He would have turned 100 last summer. He knew many of the Code Talkers personally. He was not injured on Iwo but he felt certain he would not have survived the invasion of Japan in which he would have been part of the first wave. He did serve in the occupation for 6 months or so on the island on which Nagasaki is located. He saw the flag raising from the sands below, and he saw a lot more than that, horror and death and destruction for over a month. That is beyond my comprehension…….

My heart breaks for how we have CHOSEN to commit national suicide and national debasement and humiliation with these idiots, lunatics, criminals, racists, misogynists, charlatans and punks like Trump, Hegseth and all the rest. It is absolutely terrifying to see the willful and wanton disregard of the clear TRUTH am the embrace of true evil by MULTIPLE MILLIONS of the MAGA and “Christian”Nationalist cultists and creeps. They ignore facts for fiction and cosplaying from all of them, like Hegseth, Noem, Leavitt, Rubio and the rest. It is INSANE.

Keep up your good and righteous and even holy work.

Steve, the liberate line was my morning smile and I thank you.

Your inspiring words were words from the pulpit of your heart and soul. As a person of color i say to you "GOOD MAN".
