The New York Times hatcheted the United States Armed Forces and the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) that develops character and patriotism amongst young people through exposure to the values, ethos, history and leadership principles of the most admired institution in the United States.
The story was another embarrassment for The New York Times, but more importantly, it exposed the massive disconnect between 43rd Street and American society at a cultural level. The revelatory lines were astonishing — if not particularly surprising.
The article is really a confession of obtuseness and elitism. It is a revelation of a worldview that disdains the concepts of duty, honor, country and military service as somehow beneath the dignity of the enlightened people represented by the condescensions of the three reporters who took to social media for credit and clicks, while promoting their attack as news.
Here is the money line:
“The program has always been heavily represented in regions like Texas and the Southeast, where the military has deeper roots and military families often proudly span generations.”
