My Air Force father worked and trained extensively with the Royal Canadian Air Force. There was no better friend or ally. I heard him say this. Today Canada is the greater country and the United States has relegated itself to bottom dweller status.

Martha Jones Eberle's avatar

My Air Force father would echo that.

What a brilliant speech by Mark Carney. This is how you stand up to a tyrant. Bless him. Canada is lucky to have such a leader.

Betty Moyers's avatar

As I read this I am so very sad and continue to ask why this spoiled toddler treasonous tyrant can’t be taken out.

Alan's avatar

Agreed. What was "good" for Cricket, would be "good" for the idiot. It would be really good for the rest of us. I can't expect JD to be any better, but he has less of a following, no charisma, and a wife who does not fit the image.

Betty Moyers's avatar

Yes…pretty funny they are both married to immigrants. Had to go outside the country to find someone who would touch them. Not surprised. I can’t stand to look at either one of them. 🤮

Rosie H.'s avatar

Because too many Americans want him. They want what’s he’s doing. The country is debased.

Carol Naranjo's avatar

Yes, you are correct. However, there are more that "don't want him" or this.

Betty Moyers's avatar

Who wants an old demented insane evil sociopath running the country? Only idiots!

CE's avatar

Because neither Congress nor the American people have an appetite for it.

Sher''s avatar

Plenty of us have the appetite for it.

CE's avatar

Apparently not enough. Congress still does not act, and where are the protests? Yeah, yeah, I know there are protests in Minnesota, and some in DC, and some boomers with signs in other spots, but at the level of atrocity we’re seeing there should be millions in the streets, walkouts and strikes, no question that American have had enough. And..,we are not doing it.

Betty Moyers's avatar

No one wants to get shot in the face and know the SOB who shot you won’t go to jail.

CE's avatar

Sadly, that’s the price of protest….the administration has most Americans cowed into submission. So….we get what we get. Fear has us collectively hogtied. We will lose our nation to authoritarianism.

Carol Naranjo's avatar

The average American won't overcome their fear because we've become accustomed to a life of freedom, equality, laziness, entitlement, leaving the hard jobs to immigrants and not getting our hands dirty. Especially the Millenials onward. The "boomers" , like me, who I refer to as the "worst generation", at least are in temporal proximity to the many violent wars, civil rights and issues of democracy to know that we need to fight. I can't get any of my young nieces and nephews to join but if we can't fight economically and PHYSICALLY if need be, we won't lose much, but the Millenials, etc surely will.

Betty Moyers's avatar

Hence my question…Why is he still there?

Linda Barnett's avatar

Perhaps, unfortunately, we've already lost her.

Sher''s avatar

I agree with you.

Charlie's avatar

Uh, the American public would *love* to see him gone. We are mostly law-abiding people, however. It's only Dump's cult who lacking persuasive arguments chose violence.

CE's avatar

One can protest. One can pester the hell out of Congress until they understand that as our representatives they must actually represent us, or we'll elect someone who will. In my circle of friends, I am literally the only one regularly bugging my elected folks. Others say “yeah, I should do that” and yet somehow they never find the will. Or a way.

Rosie H.'s avatar

Indifference and laziness is what killed democracy here.

Charlie's avatar

Democracy is not dead! Since November 2025 we have had several big, high-impact elections!

Please don't say "it's dead" because then people give up. Why let our democracy bleed out when we can get into action and save it? And make it better than it's ever been?

Charlie's avatar

Yes, we can protest and pester and whatever other peaceful ways we can oppose, undermine, and gum up.

I was trying--a little too subtly perhaps--to point out that despite there being more guns than people in this country, we don't shoot right wing politicians.

But I am feeling somewhat better, as PM Mark Carney of Canada has now become the leader of the free world. The torch has been picked up and the race is still on.

Betty Moyers's avatar

Yes, but the demented old pedophile needs to GO!!!

Charlie's avatar

The question is HOW? Legal (as in, not illegal or criminal) means are limited. And when he does go, we will not be out if perul because there will be a full-in civil war in the Republican Party. Vance, Miller, Rubio, Vought-- they will all be stabbing each other. Very destabilizing. So keep yourself in fighting mode, because this is not going to resolve neatly anytime soon.

Carol Naranjo's avatar

I have an appetite for it.

CE's avatar

Me too! Keep it up!

Elizabeth 🇨🇦's avatar

Betty go forward! Reality and eyes on the prize! ox

Beth Ewell's avatar

Reading this made me sad, too.

Uncle Paul's avatar

Why has the troubled toddler not been removed? Because no one has yet spoken to him in using words he can understand.

Betty Moyers's avatar

Well I hope after the past few days they understand he is completely insane!!! Get him out of the Oval before he kills us all!

Uncle Paul's avatar

The entire Executive is completely morally impoverished, rotten from stem to stern. Even if the chief executive goes, he may well be replaced by someone equally as morally depleted as he is. Be careful what we wish for!

Betty Moyers's avatar

Happy to take the risk! I don’t want to hear or see that piece of trash ever again!

Jill Stoner's avatar

Every member of Congress should be required, chained to their chair, to listen to this address. Carney is leading the way, clear eyed, pragmatic and compassionate. Canada (and Europe) is lucky to have him.

Deborah Kile's avatar

Carney just delivered a big beautiful ef u to Trump and I love it.

margaret collins's avatar

So proud that I voted for this wonderful prime minister . I heard that his speech got a standing ovation at Davos❤️

margaret collins's avatar

Glad to see that others agreed with me!

Michael Naify's avatar

I stand with Europe and Canada!! The US is now the worlds greatest threat.

I hope they will boycott our products and take a stand!!

This can only help us here at home. We need help!

Gerald Lewis's avatar

We need his help. He needs our help.

PM Carney's speech is truly brilliant, full of reality and honest foresight. He has the power of truth, and it shows in his gripping words. How refreshing it is to hear the presentation of an educated, smart, honest, realistic, integrous, adult human being who is a true leader. It says a lot about the Canadians that they chose this erudite grownup to lead their nation- and now, possibly the world, while we as a people have to endure the idiotic rantings of a maniac and his team of Stepford officials every single day. This disgust extends to those on our side as well who are nothing but a sorry bunch of driveling placaters in their own right.

I am truly sad on this day. America has officially fallen as the world leader and things will never be the same.

mary M keymer's avatar

Mark Carney you are another hero added to my list. I wish I was Canadian. Yes the shithead broke America. If we ever get back to being decent it won't matter because no one is going to trust us. Not because the scum bucket is a filthy pig (sorry pigs) but because everyone one has there signs in there windows. Everyone means everyone who used to count, government leaders ,buisiness leaders , University leaders, law firms and media outlets .. finally all the educated MAGA voters who are selfish, willfully ignorant people. lost in america

Dianne Loftus's avatar

I like PM Carney. Very well-spoken remarks, and spot on. Unfortunately, Trump & Co. have what my mother used to call "deaf ears." In the unlikely event that Trump was made aware of the things that Carney said, I can picture steam coming out of his ears as he types away tonight--- in all caps, most likely --- as the rest of the world sleeps.

p.s. I still maintain that some of his underlings are writing a lot of these posts because he doesn't know any words that have more than two syllables.

Elaine Kokoska's avatar

Dianne, it's highly suspected that Steve Miller writes his speeches...

David's avatar

Extraordinary speech and a very sad, unprecedented day for the United States of America and the world.

Carol Naranjo's avatar

American comfort, and governmental apathy of both parties for the last 50 years has done this.

Friedrike Merck's avatar

The Carney speach is brilliant, sobering and humbling. Thank you for sharing it Steve, and I agree with you, he is the leader of the free world, and rightly so.

"Collective investments in resilience are cheaper than everyone building their own fortress." This jumped out at me as not only a truth re financial matters but also on matters of democracy and the values we hope to help restore over time.

We will build a better United States together, over time.. some day. Deep in my heart, I do believe, that we shall overcome someday.

Joie Warnock's avatar

Thanks Steve for sharing Prime Minister Carney’s speech. I’m very proud of our 🇨🇦 PMs truth telling.

elliottobermanprofile's avatar

A truthteller, no condemnation at all authentic, we want peace and prosperity. It's what we all strive for, isn't it.

Tess Traylor's avatar

The contrast in the elegance of these words in relation to the boarish words from any person in the current US administration is jarring. A huge sadness and tears swelled amidst admiration as I read Mr. Carney’s words. As for our future, there is hope yet dread for what we must traverse to get to the other side.

Richard Dopierala's avatar

WOW! Maybe this happening could make the world a better place instead of us versus them. He did not say we could not participate. Maybe it will wake powerful up in Russia, China, and USA to become part of this to make the world strong. Then, they can still build capital but with the whole world. America first is the past and untenable. We can still be strong but be part of the whole world. Unfortunately, 49.5 percent want USA to rule the world.
