What Vance said about Watergate tells us all we need to know about him. I wanted to crash through my computer screen and throttle him. But most of what he says makes me want to throttle him.
Let's not extoll Maher's virtue quite yet in asking a so-called tough question. I watched that interview and he did more normalizing of JD than challenging him. Especially about the Iran "deal". He let Vance bs his way into what a good deal the Iran negotiation was but Maher never mentioned that this "deal" wasn't equal to or better than Obama's JCPOA. So we spent billions and lost 13 soldiers (the same number we lost in evacuating Afghanistan that Biden had to do under Trump's shitty agreement) as a result of Trump's bravado and bullshit of tearing up the JCPOA in the first term. I was waiting for that question and it never happened. Also, my ax to grind w/ Maher is he always says Republicans come on his show but Dems don't. What? I saw Adam Schiff on there a couple of times. Maher just got his panties in a bunch bc AOC hasn't accepted his invite and it took a while for Obama. One more thing, Maher thinks he is a tough interviewer but he consistently let Kelly Anne Conway bullshit her way through the interview and worse, he let Bari Weiss go on and on about wokeness when neither one of them could really define it. I keep lobbying for Steve Schmidt to go on Maher's show bc I know Steve won't put up w/ anyone's bullshit. I dk if Maher is not inviting or Steve doesn't want to go on.
Tas I have to say, I wish no thinking person would go on his show. I stopped watching him years ago. He is obnoxious rude and full of shit. Him going to the White House was disgusting . I didn't know President Obama went on his show. I saw Fareed Zakaria went on his show and I wished he didn't . The only part of his show I liked was his "New Rules "that was pretty funny. He is a miserable man . I guess they ran out of comedians to give the Mark Twain prize to. Anyway that's one girls opinion so need for anyone to start yelling at me that they love Bill.
Maybe I got that wrong about Obama. I seem to remember seeing him but I have an old guy's mind. Nevertheless, I agree with all of what you said above. But I really wish there was a round table discussion in that kind of format that was available to us, not the CNN kind of paid propagandists but maybe educators who study issues both foreign and domestic to get around the sound bite nature of our discussions. I liked your last sentence, btw.
Yes ,that is exactly what we need. Years ago there was a show that had a round table discussion .. It was a real one . It was the David Susskind show. I remember one of his guests said that in the future we were not going to be loyal to a country but to corporations. Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerberg may want that.
I would dearly like to see Steve Schmidt take on Maher. I don't follow Maher at all, but I'd really like to see Steve Schmidt go all "Old Testament" on Maher.
Me too. Maher lets his guests get away with too much shit. In fact, that is when I first saw Steve on his show and I really appreciated his no bullshit approach to everything.
I completely agree, Thomas. The Bill Maher of yesteryear would have torn JD a new one. I saw the interview as well, and felt as you do that he was normalizing JD's and Trump's fascism while sucking up to him and knocking liberals - again.
I was particularly sickened by Maher's comments about the immigration crackdown. He made a weak attempt to call JD out, but made no mention about the concentration camps all over our country. There was a time when Bill would have asserted a strong voice against the murder, torture and illegal arrests. Instead. He called it "cruel" and then let J D bullshit over it like he was on Fox News.
I don't know what's happened to Bill, exactly, but sometimes it feels like he's bitter for having lost his liberal audience, while at the same time having gained a taste for the power that comes with wealth and influence. He's on CNN now, so we can only wait and see how he swings even more to the right and betrays his own gifts for righteous outrage and satire.
Vance has a self serving and skewed view of history, and is incapable of embarrassment in his shameless quest for power no matter how much he debases himself. Republican party Senators Barry Goldwater and Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott told Nixon on August 7, 1974 that he had to resign, it wasn't "the deep state" whatever the hell that is. Those two Republican senators told Nixon support for him in Congress had collapsed, that he would be impeached if he did not resign. There is no such thing as the "deep state" there are people who believe that the United States should be a country that follows the rule of law and should be aspirational to the betterment of it's citizens. "James David AKA James Donald Bowman Vance" only aspires to grasp at power/money and doesn't care for his fellow Americans except to stomp on them on the way to furthering his own ambitions.
Right on, David. I remember Watergate. I was 19 years old. I remember how outraged we all were, that a President of the United States could be such a thug. Today, Nixon's transgressions seem mild compared to Trump. Steve is right. Nixon was brilliant, and did some good things in spite of his criminality. At least he believed in democracy and conceding elections. And, scoundrel though he was, he debated Kennedy like a gentleman in 1960, because he had brains and education, unlike the Trump jerks in our present government. As you say, there is no deep state, nor was there back then. Nixon stepped down because he knew he was wrong and he was licked, and his fellow Republicans stood up for the rule of law. JD is a first rate ass.
Cheeto and his Nazi Republican allies are working hard at gathering data against American citizens. The dictator has been assured by his fascist buddies Musk and Theil that one of the ways to control elections is to create as many digital footprints as possible from government agencies as reported yesterday at the Guardian. Of course this is against all privacy laws but Cheeto needs to cheat in every way possible to win. In the 21st century digital manipulation of voting machines and tabulation, state attorney generals need to preemptively be addressing this interference by cyber forensic audits that investigate tampering before and after tabulation. Not all precincts will need to be audited in such a way but spot checks should be available and where there is a question perform a forensic audit where necessary.
If you’re unfortunate to live in a red state that has turned over your registered voter data information, you should be worried about a Nazi Republican vigilante challenge of your upcoming ballot in November. Voters in these situations need to vote early so that if there is a challenge, you have time to cure your ballot. Best not to connect with the federal government unless absolutely have to.
There are multiple attacks on free and fair elections by the Nazi Republicans. WE have seen the attempts at the judicial level as well as SCOTUS which allowed for aggressive gerrymandering ploys. The SAVE Act threatens voter registration data as the bill states that if the rolls are not turned over, federal funding for states refusing to do so would have their funding limited or stopped. With Pulte heading up ODNI, there is another avenue of attack. But the digital manipulation of voting machines themselves is right up the tech alley of Musk and Theil and adds another layer of election interference and WE must be prepared for this tech onslaught. Reach out to your attorney general and ask about cyber forensic audits for upcoming elections.
JD Vance--Liar liar pants on fire. I was around when Nixon's band of thieves was caught for the Watergate break in. Nixon was impeached and resigned in disgrace. Vance is really getting good at gaslighting. And he tries to be so likable while he's lying. They are liars trying to erase what we know the historical facts are, and replace it with a whitewashed version of the story. Total gaslighting! I quit watching Maher a while ago. A little too impressed with himself for me.

His take on Watergate is horseshit. And because Trump commits 5 Watergates before breakfast.

Well done! Agree completely with your well written post. Thanks for responding.
And thank you for yours!

Great broadcast this AM Steve, you covered all the bases clearly. Thanks
Big Brother Cheeto Is Watching Over You

Well said Steve.
I am going to do what I can to ensure a free and fair election by working at the polls this November.
Right on as always, thanks
If Watergate happened…..blah blah blah….because ethics and integrity mattered in the 70’s and doesn’t matter now!
Thw old saying, money cannot buy class certainly applies to trump,He has added a new meaning to the word tacky

J.D. Vance is a misogynist, a liar, a moral coward. I’d say more, but as my grandmother would say, some things ain’t worth your time.
love you, man
Thank you, Steve! I’m not sure why, but all I saw was your headshot. I never saw any of the clips you played.
JD Couch F**ker is a broken man like so many in this regime.
