Meghan McCain is a stain on her father’s legacy. She is married but trades in her married name for her father’s. I wonder what her mother, Cindy, thinks of her behavior? Tulsi Gabbard, like most of the orange stain’s nominees should not be allowed anywhere near the levers of government. I feel there is reason to believe that she has committed espionage against our country. I guess that would fit in with the incoming administration. The CIA should recall all its operatives around the world before January 20. Their lives are at risk because of the orange stain and Gabbard. It is imperative that the Democrats in the Senate sharpen their knives and go after every nominee.

I fear we haven't heard the last from Matt Gaetz. I suspect he will be chosen for some Justice Department commission to "investigate" perceived slights against MAGA-dom. As for Meghan McCain, she's just another person to jump on the MAGA train. The only comfort we have is that Trump & Company will overreach themselves, and probably sooner rather than later.

I heard Gaetz was being considered for a Special Counsel job.

I believe Gartz has been setting himself up with a plan B in case this farce nomination for AG bombs, which it has, for a run as FLOR-E-DA Gov......if he does and most likely would win, may the Gods help us all down here in this maga swamp of a sh*thole.

I can see the headlines already - "Florida man runs amok after gaining the governor's mansion. Former governor DeSantis claims to not knowing who Gaetz is."

Another example of picking friendship over country. Megan McCain is choosing to go the Corrupt MAGA route. As a veteran, it is even more disturbing to see people follow a Traitor. It is time to start setting up resistance to these mis-fits. The honeymoon is over. Fight For Democracy! Never Give UP!

From what I have read, the only demographic that voted for Harris in a majority were black women. Six in ten said it was about saving the country.

Reminds me of when people in Alabama wanted a US Senator who was a credibly-accused child predator. The only demographic that prevented this atrocity from happening were black women.

It was a bridge too far this time. The other demographics failed.

I don’t blame them!! 🤬 I am so angry at my family members who voted for the orange disgrace. I had a screaming argument with one of my nephews about it. I tried to explain how hurtful it is to know he voted against me or his young daughters having rights, & he just doesn’t get it. I just can’t speak with him or my sister again any time soon.

I am sorry that your nephew and sister are MAGA. Horrible. Thankfully, my mother and three of my four cousins hate Trump. My cousin in Montana, who is "libertarian", may have voted for him, but we don't talk much so it's not a problem.

Awesome column, Steve! You should moonlight cutting movie trailers. I too fear that we have not heard the last of Matt Gaetz. Pam Bondi will find something for him to do at DOJ and it will not bode well for the country. As for Tulsi Gabbard, I fear that we will lose a number of highly-skilled, highly-competent intelligence operatives, who would rather depart the intelligence community than be asked to do certain things. I hope you are correct about the apogee, but for nine years I have believed that we have hit rock bottom, only to learn within a day or two, that there was a lower place.

Steve this is one of your best ever pieces ever on Alice In Wonderland going down the rabbit hole.. You are amazing, really you are. You made me thing about Megan McCain and RFK jr. how personality disordered they are and how exceptional there parents were. What happened ? All the rest of the Orange ones picks are scary as well. He is getting his revenge just by picking these nutcases. Never mind what they will do. I don't know what is to become of us.

Excellent recitation of Gabbard's unsuitability. She was my representative for a while and bamboozled her constituents into thinking she had principles and integrity. That ship has long sailed. Before, she was just a mostly harmless grandstander, but true to her burning ambition, she has ascended, or depending on your point of view, descended into MAGAfied prominence where she could really cause damage. She must not be allowed to harm America. Her nomination should not go through.

I take comfort in the defenestration of Matt Gaetz. It's a good start. I hope it becomes a trend.

The Senate must act as a bulwark against this travesty. Democratic Leadership must root out the few decent Republicans who remain, and enlist their aid in putting the brakes on the worst of these appointments. It will only take a few to be reminded of their duty. If your Senator is Murkowski, or Collins, email and call today and ask that they work with colleagues to slow the flow of the absurd and abhorrent.

Apparently, Brendan Carr will be the head of the FCC and has promised to take the broadcasting licenses from any network that allows programming which has treated Donald Trump “unfairly”.

I wonder how long before we lose all of the brave and courageous late night hosts? Who actually are NOT afraid to take on Trump and his horrifying actions, and have been doing so for YEARS.

Doing the job our elected Dems should be doing.

What happens to Kimmel, Stewart, Fallon, Colbert, Oliver, Myers, et al?

Fired? Rounded up? Investigated?

The US really did point a gun at its collective head and pull the trigger. What the actual fuck.

It pains and embarrasses me to admit that I'm losing my battle against post election cynicism and melancholy. Well, that's not totally true - the cynicism has been active since the Supreme Court stepped in and gave the 2000 election to W. The melancholy is of a more recent vintage and relates to what I see is an indisputable fact that was demonstrated by this election. We're in this situation not because of any mistakes made by Harris, Biden or the democrats. I realize that it's heresy to say this but in any normal world trump and his minions would have been banished to obscurity soon after his journey down the golden escalator. No, we're in this situation because upwards of 50% of voters can't be trusted to make a rational, informed decision and another large block of would be voters can't be trusted to get off their asses to vote, obviously having more important things to do. We're in this position because so many voted not for trump but for his avatar, the orange colossus sitting regally behind his desk on the Apprentice sharing his pearls of wit and wisdom. This election is the complete fusion of media fantasy and reality. For me the question is how do you cure the Zombie hoard?

I totally agree. When I hear a "what did the Democrats do wrong" segment coming, I hit the mute button. The obvious answer is that ignorance, disinformation, and propaganda have misled the low information types into a state of collective insanity, and apathy has kept another huge segment from engaging at all or making rational decisions. It is difficult to continue to think that we have any hope of turning things around in the face of this opposition.

Since Trump fouled our national politics with his descent down the escalator, I believed his ultimate foreign policy goal was an alliance between the U.S.A. and Russia. His nomination of Tulsi Gabbard as DNI is proof of that. I am still amazed at the level of Republican and public support for the incompetent, corrupt, rapists, and just plain crazy people Trump has thus far nominated for cabinet positions that will have terrible consequences for all of the world, as well as Americans.

Tulsi Gabbard will be confirmed. As I point out to people, North Carolina is home to Duke University and the University of North Carolina, but it has never stopped the most poorly educated and ignorant being lifted up to high government positions by the poorly educated and ignorant.

Thank you for featuring a critique of Gabbard. I believe she is the biggest threat to national security since Robert Hanssen or maybe Jack Teixeira. She's a traitor. And what is up with Meghan McCain? Didn't her dad raise her right? Embarrassing.
