Trump should be required to restore the East Wing and thoroughly clean up his mess on his own before this is over…

Patricia Baron's avatar

Yes, Chris, and at his own expense. And this goes for the reflecting pool and his hideous arch as well. Great suggestion.

MM Harris's avatar

AND the Oval office !!!!!!!!!!!

Patricia Baron's avatar

Absolutely, the Oval Office too! How could I forget?

Bruce Kopetz's avatar

Does that also apply to the gold spray-painted bling he hung up in our Oval Office?

Patricia Baron's avatar

I would hope so, Bruce. All his tasteless, ugly shit has to go!

Danielle Donovan's avatar

out of his own private funds-

MM Harris's avatar

Required to PAY monetarily (but from his OWN pockets, not $$$ he's stolen from tax payers) and the restoration should be in the sole hands of Congress and appropriate historians, otherwise we'll end up with youknowwhat.

Martha MacRae's avatar

Great idea!

May be hard to implement.

Absolutely!

At some point some legal scholar may be able to provide a legal rationale that most if not all of Trump's actions were not legal. That is those alterations would not have been subject to a thorough review according to established law. That would need to occur before congress could vote to authorize them. (see: https://savingplaces.org/white-house)

Steve Schmidt, you are the best of all the strategist that have ever come before in your previous career and in working for John McCain. I admire you so much and I trust you implicitly.

I think it’s safe to say that most subscribers to this Substack appreciate Steve Schmidt’s perspective, clarity, and commitment to purpose. We wouldn’t be reading it otherwise. He is a force! But I beg you not to worship any man no matter how much you admire him. Keep your eyes open to many views. Read widely. Know what other people are thinking and saying and then decide for yourself. Chances are it will reinforce your view of Steve if you do. But be mindful of the fact that we are where we are because 35% of Americans believed and trusted Trump implicitly.

Danielle Donovan's avatar

Trump was able to install his criminal enterprise because his voters could not distinguish between their FEELINGS and FACTS. My personal experience is that when I read what Steve has to say, I'm able to find more than one reputable source confirming what he shares. Their in-laws the difference between people like us and the people who think their FEELINGS should be believed

What you say is true HOWEVER that does not apply here. To admire Steve S. shows good sense good judgement and these things can be worshipped.

Trump will leave this country in the same state that he left his bankrupt casinos.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

That’s been my thought for a long time: crippling debt imploding the country. By sending immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers away he’s created orphans, desperate elders in need of carers who’ve been sent away, construction , hospitality and food growing and processing suffering from workers who paid taxes shoring up the economy. The complicity in this is as stunning. I hope voters say enough and those GOP who are not re-elected find the Oath they took and reread it.

MM Harris's avatar

He hasn't done it alone...Let's not overlook his US and foreign puppet masters, all with their own agendas, including the very active implementation of P2025 .

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

Speaking of P2025, WTF is Vought? Have I just missed that he’s still around?

Yes to the puppet masters, foreign & domestic. And the many other puppets.

MM Harris's avatar

He's still working to centralize the federal govt so the presidency has more power. The link below is AI's answer re what he's been up to lately, and I read similar in one of our popular substacks (can't recall which) just the other day. . . https://www.google.com/search?q=latest+news+re+vought+and+p2025&oq=latest+news+re+vought+and+p2025&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigAdIBCTI0NTE4ajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Thank you?? This terrifies me even tho I must’ve known it was the logical place and actions for the key architect. He then want to kill the programs that allow us to live. And the govt can start wars to then defend them”homeland” making it all theirs. My fears are well founded.

MAGATS love to humiliate people. However, their attempt to humiliate Talarico was adroitly parried by the Democratic Senate candidate. Hold your breath and have the smelling salts nearby: they said Talarico is a VEGAN(untrue)!!!! And his girlfriend is a VEGAN (true and admirable) and dances at GAY BARS!!!!

Talarico responded by saying he has been eating barbecued meat since before Paxton's first INDICTMENT!!!!

LINDA LAMAY's avatar

Paxton called him Talafreako and now James is selling t- shirts with that name. Completely turned it around on Paxton. Excellent move!!

I think the risk of someone resorting to the nuclear option is coming near - whether Russia, Israel ?, or US

Anthony j. Santo's avatar

I hate to agree, but I think you are right.

Mike's avatar

I think Israel will pull the trigger if anyone does. Bibi will do anything to prevent peace with Iran, Lebenon, etc. War keeps him in power and out of jail.

Martha MacRae's avatar

Yes, but I’m not sure what their nuclear weapon arsenal is?

Anthony j. Santo's avatar

Israel is widely believed to possess 90 plutonium-based nuclear warheads and to have produced enough plutonium for 100-200 weapons.

https://armscontrolcenter.org/fact-sheet-israels-nuclear-arsenal/

They have enough nuclear weapons to create global chaos. That is why Netanyahu can be as aggressive as he is; it is why all other countries want nuclear weapons. Of course, the end result will be doom for mankind and likely all life on Earth.

Talk about lacking self awareness. It’s interesting the Cornyn posted the frog and the scorpion story. I’m sure you all recall Trump reciting a variant on that story involving the woman and the snake. Certainly, Cornyn recall Trump repeating that story at one campaign event after another. As always, trump accusations are confessions. MAGA cult members probably didn’t get it, but trump was describing himself. He is the snake, he is the scorpion.

Patricia Baron's avatar

You are so right, Kim! When I saw Trump recite that poem about the woman and the snake, I thought to myself, "he's telling everybody who he is!" There's an old Cajun saying: "The Devil always tells you what he's going to do..."

Gwendolyn Mccarty's avatar

Just a word or two about Trump’s recent “medical report.” Any doc who signed off on this travesty should lose their license. Any random person with ok eyesight and a functioning brain looks at him and sees an overweight, outta shape old man with most likely a very worn out heart: swollen ankles, sporadic bruising, daytime sleepiness, difficulty climbing stairs, unbalanced walking. So, is it possible the heart may be clogged with all that fast food fat? And does that mean less oxygen is getting to his brain and does that explains his incoherence?

MM Harris's avatar

Yet Joe was the one who was relentlessly vilified......

Jim Jorgensen's avatar

While I can see that he is physically weak, I doubt that he has ever established any reasonable level of physical health conditioning, except to swing a golf club after climbing out of a cart. So I would agree he is less physically fit and unable to balance very well.

However, on his mental condition I have a hard time sorting out any major differences in his speech patterns even as incoherent as they often have been through time.

Gwendolyn Mccarty's avatar

Regarding the decline in Trump’s mental health, please review his public statements from one year ago and compare them to last week’s (look at prepared teleprompter speeches as well as press statements and social discourse.) What you will see is a more halting speech delivery, more off-speech aside tangents, more rage, more inability to focus on one topic, and more inappropriate and unrelated comments, often directed at women but also obvious anger at anyone questioning him. His cognitive processing is more than just temporary brain fog.

Jim Jorgensen's avatar

Has their been any professional medical specialists who have provided at least a rudimentary assessment in order to raise that issue? It should be fairly easy given the amount of videos you have referenced. Maybe it is too much of a hot potato for a professional to take that on.

Jim Jorgensen's avatar

This is the closest podcast I can find where the known medical records of the President have been reviewed by this doctor: REAL DOCTOR (Dr. David Benjamin) reviews Trump's medical chart, blood test results, and imaging (annual physical prep)

The United Front Show: (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MK1MFr0ehqk) These are the known past records regarding Trump.

Dr. Benjamin explains that when the records of today's tests become available, the doctor will be able to compare what changes, questions or new information will have been revealed.

And then there are batshit nutters in South Carolina who support Lindsey Graham. They were cheering him two days ago when he said this:

“One of the reasons I want to go back to the Senate is to help Trump change the world.”

It will be great if he loses, but we’re talking South Carolina, home of Nancy Mace, Tim Scott, Henry McMaster, Nikki Haley, Ralph Norman, and the largest measles outbreak of the past 60 years.

Danielle Donovan's avatar

PRECISELY. this is a classic case of chicken or egg... were these people born dumb or are they just the product of their educational system? Then again, very likely that it's both...

Anthony j. Santo's avatar

Our schools have failed to emphasize the difference between communism and government intervention in the economy to prevent monopoly, ensure a clean and safe environment, food, and water, and a decent standard of living for all. Most people don't realize that concentration of so much wealth in so few hands, an economic reality in our country today, makes both free enterprise and democracy impossible. And, it seems, most Americans have been duped into believed that subsidies for corporations, including the largest, and "relief" from regulations designed to protect people, are a necessary part of the capitalist system. They seem to believe assholes like Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerberg actually earned billions of dollars and that a tax on wealth is government theft. I wish there were a god to help us; we can't seem to help ourselves.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

How terrifying and insecure he is.

Danielle Donovan's avatar

I kind of wonder why we're not talking about dementia when we talk about Lindsey Graham. Then again he is from South Carolina, so I guess it can be kinda hard to tell who's nuts and who's just a southern Republican!

YOU ASK:

Can the courts hold?

Can the Constitution hold?

Can elections hold?

Can reality itself hold against a movement powered by lies, hatred and organized delusion?

Only if the 'REAL' Republicans, Democrats and Independents currently in Congress join together to close ranks WITH THE MAJORITY OF THE ELECTORATE ...and say, HELL NO - NOT ON OUR WATCH! Impeach & convict the narcissistic fool and physically escort his ass out of OUR HOUSE on Pennsylvania Avenue. He makes NIXON & AGNEW look like church alter boys.

I believe that Ds veneer was cracked with the great assistance of what should be our trusted Allies. Canadian Prime Minister Carney did a number on him & surely infused courage, realism & determination into our European allies. He said to stop wishing for what used to be & accept reality. D is a fascist & aligned with the worst authoritarians on the planet. Plan accordingly. He did...in only 15 months this guy has finalized 2 dozen trade agreements & has COMPLETELY altered who their defense procures from and how his military should evolve. All while his next door neighbor screams, threatens & attacks other neighbors. Somebody must know a nightmare neighbor like that.

Patricia Baron's avatar

As I read your posts each day, Steve, I can only say from your mouth to God's ears. I have implicit trust in your observations. However, I still see MAGA idiots having far too much popularity in the strangest of places.

Two cases in point, Steve Hilton in second place for California governor and Spencer Pratt in a close running for mayor of LA. Both of these nitwits are reality TV personalities with no intelligence, no experience, no conscience, and backed by Trump. What does this say about the American people at this point? Apparently that we are a group of dazed fools, blind to the rape, robbery, pillage, destruction, lawlessness, murder, war mongering and acute criminality of both Trump and MAGA. Have I covered all the atrocities? Probably not. Why bother when a huge swath of the American electorate chooses blind indifference over common sense, and empty promises of fulfilling personal interests over rebuilding a just and sane society for all?

I truly hope you are right that MAGA is indeed collapsing. It can't happen fast enough.

Elizabeth George's avatar

The worship of celebrities and the associated belief that they must know everything since they’re famous has long been a problem in the US and particularly in California, the state that gave us Ronald Reagan as governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor, Sonny Bono as congressman then as mayor of Palm Springs, Clint Eastwood as mayor of Carmel, Shirley Temple (!) as congresswoman, and probably more whom I have forgotten. Until we value education, political acumen, and governmental experience over fame, this will happen again and again.

Patricia Baron's avatar

Well said, Elizabeth!

A very fine piece of journalism, Steve. It boggles the mind that the spineless Republicans are just now waking up. My question is what did they think would happen. Evidentially,, losing our system of government under this grifter just never occurred to them? I’ll never figure that one out.

MM Harris's avatar

MANY have been awake all along. They just lacked the spines to DO THE RIGHT THING. More terrified to lose their jobs rather than honor the oath they took or to protect the country that AFFORDED THEM SAID JOBS. . . If THIS doesn't wake the public up enough to understand a MUCH BETTER job is required in voting for the correct people to represent us IDK what will.
