In this 250th year of the United States, I’m writing a series called “The Cause.” “The Cause” was the initial name of the war for the independence of the United States.
Very nice Steve. My eyes are full of tears just thinking about how his life was snatched away before he was finished. I was only a kid that fateful day and I can see clearly in my minds eye my whole family crying together at his tragic loss.
Onward and upward. There are so many more of us than them. Let’s get America back.
By curious coincidence, I am in the middle of an essay about JFK and PT-109 for my substack “In my ‘umble Opinion” . I was alive for his Presidency, in high school when he was murdered. He was a President of whom we could be proud.
I have always admired JFK and when I compare him to our present want to be King it sickens me. How could we have allowed a felon to take this honorable seat in our government? We all know that past behavior is usually a good indicator of future behavior, so what we got isn't a surprise. We are in what looks to be another forever war, we have brown coat thugs in our streets murdering American citizens, we have concentration camps in many states that our tax dollars are supporting while they starve the captives and do not provide humane services to them. I watched as demonstrations turned into riots outside of a NJ concentration camp. This is under the leadership of a felon we put in office. We must do better.
Brilliant again, Steve, and I thank you for this reminder. For those of us who are deeply troubled by this administration, it is a balm on open wounds.

When I was a senior in high school, as part of our American Government class, we students were required to do a project of public service having to do with the election. Some of my classmates and I decided to work on the Kennedy campaign---stuffing envelopes, but still. It was exciting for us!!
I remember how thrilled I was when Kennedy won! A Catholic just like me was going to be president!! Wow!!
I also remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news that JFK had been assassinated. I can close my eyes and go right back there, even 63 years later.
My mother of 19 years old volunteered to help get JFK elected in Flint, Michigan. He gave her a letter of gratitude. She was very fond of him until she passed away. I know there is much speculation about his assassination. I myself still believe the KKK was involved with it.
Thank you again for highlighting President Kennedy, Steve. I used to listen to every speech he gave (on our tiny black and white TV). Every speech was riveting and inspiring, even when I was 12 and 13 years old. Imagine the example being set for the United States' children now. It makes me shudder to think of my grandchildren being influenced by him and his group of fascists. Keep fighting for our country and its future!
In that speech by JFK he talks about service to the community, integrity, sacrifice, and humility.
There’s not a single one of those traits being displayed right now in the White House as we wait for an IFC event on the front lawn while the backyard is being ripped to shreds.
My life-long obsession with politics began in 1960 when, at the age of 15, I volunteered in Dallas (yes, DALLAS) with JFK's campaign. I handed out pamphlets, stickers and buttons and wore mine to school. My English teacher took me aside and warned me not to wear it since I could get beaten up by the football team. I took it off but continued my volunteering. I attended a new group called SDS (later it became far too radical) in Dallas in the fall of 1963 where my girlfriend and I were hit on by a greasy-haired leech we later learned was Lee Harvey Oswald. Can you imagine my reaction after JFK's assassination in my city where my dad was lunching at the hotel across the street from the actual shooting site? And watching Oswald be shot to death on live tv? I stayed a steadfast Dem and based my life on his call for public service to the nation. I'm 80, still practicing the values he articulated which formed my moral compass. As a civics educator I taught his PROFILES IN COURAGE. If someone attempted to write that book today, how many pages would it run for this century?? I'd put you up there, Steve, and other independent media.
In the early afternoon of November 22, 1963, "raised-by-oligarchs" scions of Barrington Hills, Illinois burst from their classrooms to dance and cheer in the hallways of Barrington High School upon the announcement that JFK had just been assassinated. This repulsive display was witnessed in horror by one close to me--an eye witness of the fascist tumors that had metastasized from the Confederate and other KKK-infested states and which now have spread to all 50 states.
