“When a clown visits the castle it doesn’t make him a king. It makes the castle a circus.”
A friend emailed me this shortly before Donald Trump nominated MAGA’s version of Indiana Jones to be the 87th attorney general of the United States.
Like Indiana Jones running through the cave, barely escaping the crush of the rolling boulder, Matt Gaetz, one of America’s greatest punks, resigned from Congress just ahead of the release of a damaging ethics report that was reported to detail his sexual escapades with minor girls and cocaine use.
Now, he is Trump’s choice to be America’s chief law enforcement officer. His nemesis, Kevin McCarthy, says Gaetz won’t be confirmed by the US Senate. The point is really less the odiousness of the individual personality, and more about the coming abuses of power.
Gaetz is an abomination, but no worse of one than the fringe Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who fetishized Bashar al-Assad before settling on Vladimir Putin. Here she is repeating Kremlin talking points about the Ukraine War:
All the statements and comments that the Biden-Harris administration has made from the beginning of this [Russo-Ukrainian] war essentially point to their objective being basically to destroy Russia.
She is as dangerous and unfit as Gaetz for a position of immense responsibility. Just because the Trump circus of unfitness contains many poisonous clowns doesn’t mean any single one of them is any less dangerous than the one standing next to another.
For example, Pete Hegseth. There are no words to describe the marriage of MAGA lunacy, weirdness and corruption that has created the FOX News version of a human action figure: plastic, cheap, disposable and fake.
Hegseth is a professional veteran who has made a living off his service, cashiering it for a license to spread division, extremism, nonsense and all manner of idiocy, while selling books and flattering Trump. Pete Hegseth portrays himself as Audie Murphy on the Mar-a-Lago patio, and incredibly, it worked! Now, he stands poised to be in the national command authority with direct responsibilities for the launch of nuclear weapons. His unfitness is staggering.
Hegseth’s nomination must be opposed and defeated.
There is another thing that must be said. Donald Trump has repeatedly insulted the US military, while trammeling the worthy virtues. He is a man without dignity, decency and honor. He has mocked POWs, and desecrated America’s most hallowed ground. He has forsaken America’s war dead, and called them “suckers and losers.” He said that he wanted his generals to be like those of Hitler, and wondered out loud why anyone would sacrifice anything for their country.
He posed the following question to his chief of staff, a USMC general and Gold Star father, while in Arlington National cemetery: “What was in it for them?”
Every previous insult pales in comparison to the disrespect Donald Trump has showed America’s Armed Forces and America’s mothers and fathers by nominating such a paragon of unsteady idiocy to the position of US Defense Secretary.
These nominations must be effectively opposed. The question in the air at this hour is how much of a role will Trump’s rubber-stamp MAGA Senate give him?
All of it, or most of it are the two options.
These nominations represent a grave danger to the American people, the rule of law, our security, our allies and the peace of the world.
Fighting back must start from here in opposition to the arrogance of Trump, who thinks that 49 percent of the vote made him king. Nominating these people to high office is no different than nominating Little John, Meatloaf and Gary Busey to the positions. It is unacceptable.
Of course, Democrats being Democrats insist on fighting from the hog-tied position. That probably won’t go well since Chuck Schumer is the leader of the Senate opposition. He is incompetent as a communicator, strategist and tactician. His penchant for working the treadmill caucus in the morning with both Republicans and Democrats won’t help either with what is coming.
He’s not smart enough, tough enough, shrewd enough, wise enough, or articulate enough to lead the effort that must form against Trump. A serious opposition would face reality sooner rather than later. The Democratic Party is a defeated party that must renew itself, heal itself, reform itself, and get back into the battle for the future of the American way of life.
Dark days are here. Tuning them out just means that they will be darker when you tune back in. By the way, tuning out isn’t an option because sometime soon Trump is going to get your attention, and it is going to be on his terms — not yours.
The American people have made a terrible choice. There will be a terrible consequence.
Let’s fight through it, and see beyond it.
There is a long way to go.
Amen! Let's fight these bastards! Over my dead body! I'm 71 and don't want or accept these clowns. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell need to speak out and act. Murray is # 3 in the senate. I wonder how she would do as senate minority leader. Trump would hate her because she is a woman. Perfect fit there.
Trump is taunting us. He is also daring the Senate to oppose him. The election of normie Thune as leader over MAGA lightweight Scott may be a sign that they have..finally..had enough. Either they stand up to Trump now, or they earn their much deserved spot in history's purgatory. Let's hope they choose wisely.
