People need to understand that Trump's policy of blowing up boats in international waters because he says they are smuggling drugs into the U.S. is not only cruel and against international law, it is counterproductive. The boats should be stopped, boarded, and searched. If no contraband is found, the boats should be free to continue their voyage. If illegal drugs are found, the crew and any passengers should be questioned and given a chance to defend themselves (due process). Some might have no knowledge of the drugs. Those who knew about the drugs should be pressured for information on more important people in the drug cartel who are using them as mules.
It seems Trump is more interested in causing a war against a far weaker nation to show how tough he is than in stopping drugs from entering our country.. That reminds me of Mussolini's invasion of Ethiopia. That is what fascist bullies do.
In the eyes of the world, reports like the following, from the NYT's, do us great harm:
