Trump is nominating Todd Blanche to be his Attorney General after thirty five federal judges of all political stripes filed a motion accusing Blanche of fraud against the court. Although most media yawned, the significance of what they wrote cannot be overstated.

The motion suggested that the DOJ had “deceived” U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams by announcing a settlement to the public after failing to mention it to the court. It was an “extraordinary” deception, the judges wrote, where (Blanche) “dismissed this case before the Court could complete its inquiry into whether there was an actual case or controversy, and then cited the ‘settlement’ of this case as the legal justification for looting the federal treasury of $1.776 billion dollars and purporting to release all possible federal claims against President Trump, his family, and his businesses.”

The judges aren’t just frothing over the larceny. The fraud, they noted, is bigger and more consequential. Trump/Blanche tried to manipulate and defraud, then circumvent and forever silence a federal court. Blanche tried to orchestrate that court’s imprimatur on an unprecedented theft of taxpayer funds, knowing full well that the court had no jurisdiction and never could because there was no case or controversy. If Trump sits on both sides of the same case, both controlling the outcome and financially benefitting from it, there is no legal controversy. There is no case. There is only theft, and claiming otherwise is fraud.

“Most egregious conduct”

The judges didn’t hold back, suggesting that this case demonstrated “most egregious conduct involving a corruption of the judicial process itself.” The parties “used the proceedings before this Court as a legal pretext,” they wrote, “while trying to deprive this Court of the opportunity to determine whether this was a real case or controversy in the first place. To (allow it) would be, in effect, to reward and immunize such collusion from judicial scrutiny, since the parties to such a scheme will obviously never challenge” fraud that benefits them personally.

Blanche’s failure to mount any defense at all to Trump’s claims, the judges note, “only emphasizes the fraudulent nature of the ‘settlement’ reached here” and “strengthens the conclusion that the litigation was collusive from the start.” Blanche seemingly “perpetrated a fraud on the judicial machinery itself, by fostering an appearance that the litigation involved adverse parties, when, in fact, it did not.”

Judge Williams ordered the DOJ to respond to the judges’ accusations of fraud upon the court by June 14. Blanche will edit that brief knowing that in New York, where he is licensed, committing a fraud upon the court is considered egregious conduct that supports immediate suspension or permanent disbarment.

This reminds of Senator Mitch going on and on how Donald was going to be held to account by the DOJ . So no need to convict in the Senate. Alas, nope he was not charged by DOJ. I'm tired of our government . The man is obviously unfit and yet they make fools out of themselves fawning over him doing his bidding. When he weaponizes the j/6 crowd to hurt americans again I guess the gop will be safe because they do whatever he wants. My heart breaks that they passed this 70 B immigration bill. How many more people have to be hurt, tortured and thrown into these death camps Tired in america.

I hate to repeat myself, but this fits into today's "sermon" so well...

60 years….

Toward the end of World War II, America’s richest citizens were paying a tax rate of up to 94% with historically little pushback or complaint, because that’s what America required to defeat fascism, and maintain Democracy.

During the start of a new century under President “W”, people paying even as little as 1/4th of that WWII tax rate demanded even lower tax rates…twice. During wartime.

60 years…..

From the end of America’s Civil War, and for the next 100 years, there were essentially ONLY Democrats in elected federal offices from the south due to southern hate for Republican President Lincoln.

Beginning around 1960, the GOP began to implement their Southern Strategy. Following that period, in 2025 (white) American “Christians” overwhelmingly voted to replace their worship of Jesus with their worship of a man who wasn’t even able to name the Golden Rule: Donald Trump.

The new MAGA savior told them he could save their souls by altering the past, if they would be willing to abandon all sense of personal responsibility. And abandon Jesus, of course. And the 100% Democratic south became overwhelmingly GOP, as it remains.

60 years…..

In the early 1960s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. became one of the most effective and respected freedom fighters on Earth.

In 2025, virtually everything Dr. King accomplished was either driven from the American memory or weaponized in an attempt to prevent anything like Dr. King’s legacy from EVER being influential in America again.

The GOP eliminated patriotism as a positive American trait and replaced it with GREED….

The GOP removed the loving words of Jesus from the hearts of white Americans, and replaced them with HATE…

The GOP eliminated Dr. King’s legacy as they removed his principles of brotherhood and personal sacrifice from the American psyche, and replaced them with FEAR…

Seemingly, this “Trifecta of mind control: greed, hate and fear” is an indication that the GOP can accomplish anything they want towards gaining control, and the DNC won’t even know until it’s just too late.

They just need 60 years….

You know these republicans are for fascism when they vote against the will of the people. Elections have consequences and if you vote for these republicans you vote in favor of fascism.

Is there no bottom to the depth of Republican sycophancy and corruption? Before Trump, what is happening in foreign and domestic policy would have been unimaginable. Does Thune not realize that the American people are aware of how subservient to every Trumpian whim he is? Is he not ashamed, embarrassed, afraid of what is in America's and the world's future as a result of his abdication of responsibility?

Donna K. White's avatar

Unfortunately, not! Ever since the Supreme Court, gave frump immunity to do anything his little heart desires, frump is able to truly become a dictator! So, if that is the case, then the MAGAs in congress must bow down to the "dear orange and old leader"! To be honest, if the Democrats do win the House back, and start impeachment procedures, unless we win back the senate too, by a huge margin, nothing will change! Even if frump is impeached, and convicted by the Senate, the good ole Supreme Court could over rule the decision, and we will be back at square one!

Anthony j. Santo's avatar

I don't think SCOTUS can overrule a conviction in the Senate following impeachment; but, of course, the Constitution means nothing to these latter-day Nazis.

Good God . . . I'm beyond appalled and unable to make a logical argument at this time. My comments on this Substack, Steve, are all I can can do now but find this morning's comments some comfort. But we are singing to the choir and I can only hope the choir breaks forth with a song so loud that we can be assured of change. We sing even with the maniacal cartoon of cage fighters in front of the White House. For all of you out there in this conversation, thank you.

Could it be that they, the Republican Congress, really are of the same persuasion as Trump?

Maybe, it’s not fear. Maybe they LIKE what Trump and Blanche are doing.

Donna K. White's avatar

Don't forget Pulte, who can freely look at anyone's mortgage. And, for some reason, that I don't understand, can find out who they voted for? Frump said he is temporary, but until he is replaced, he can find out if the elections are rigged! This is scary crap, folks!

Good question

David Hurwitz's avatar

You’re missing something here, Steve. 37% of Americans are absolutely thrilled by what the Trump criminal regime is doing, as evidenced by Trump’s approval rating. And they comprise the base of the Republican Party.

Which is why Senate Republicans refused to kill off that slush fund for the Brownshirt mob who Trump incited to pummel United States Capitol Hill Police officers as they attempted to overthrow the United States government.

Trump is the ultimate manifestation of the ignorance and moral turpitude in the U.S., but not the cause of it.

Although I do blame for a lot of the cultural rot in the U.S. over the past ten years, because he has brought out the worst in us.

WE ARE HERE

Merriam-Webster

1 often Fascism : a populist political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual, that is associated with a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, and that is characterized by severe economic and social regimentation and by forcible suppression of opposition

David Hurwitz's avatar

We are not fully fascist yet, Mark, although we will be if Democrats don’t control at least one branch of Congress in 2027 and the presidency in 2029.

Mark's avatar

We are creeping ever so slightly more each and everyday. There are voting democrats who are going along with this nonsense and must be voted out.

Donna K. White's avatar

These spineless MAGAs (because they are no longer Republicans), care only about making "dear orange leader", happy! They don't give a crap about their constitutes, or values/morals, or democracy-just make "dear orange leader" happy! I swear; many were vocal against this horrible slush fund, until frump, said that it was "a beautiful thing"! I will never understand why a large group of people can cave so quickly, because of ONE orange, old, man!

BTW: I hate what frump is doing to our Nation's Capitol; but it the reflection of what trumpism is! Ugly, gaudy, tactless... Frump is all of these things, and more! I am so ashamed about what is happening to our country! And, unfortunately, I don't see any knights on white horses-Democrats- that will end this nightmare!

David Hurwitz's avatar

Donna,

The reason that Senate Republicans caved so quickly is because the Republican base wanted them to. The only real desire they have in their miserable and pathetic lives is remaining a United States Senator.

But you’re spot-on about Trump and Trumpism being “ugly, gaudy, and tactless.” I would also add ignorant, racist, and cruel to that.

And much like you seem to, Donna, because of the Trump criminal regime’s incessant depravity and insanity, to quote the Bodeans, “Everyday I’m feeling more and more like less and less.”

Best,
