They died for nothing
Over 250 long years of history there is a supernatural quality wrapped around the grim reality that we share this moment of history with the single greatest buffoon to ever be associated with the American military: Pete Hegseth.
He is a colossus of incompetence and extremism, a poisonous nitwit enamored with violence, but estranged from the concept of duty, honor, country.
This is a disgrace:
First, there is no “Secretary of War” in America, and his assertions are laughable.
Let’s just say that he is no Eisenhower or Jimmy Doolittle.
Hegseth must have been delighted when a girls school was obliterated killing between 100-175 children. He must have been filled with a euphoria that comes from the achievement of impossible dreams.
Not so long ago, he was but a simple Fox News drunk, standing on a table in a cheap hotel bar, promising to “kill all Muslims,” and now his dream has come true.
Three Americans are dead thus far, and MAGA is grieving.
X is filled with statements lamenting the sacrifice.
Here is Bill Ackman:
Here is Lindsey Graham:
Getting back to Ackman, of course, his children are far from the front.
Dying for your country is not something that billionaire children should be expected to do.
Look, it’s Barron Trump parachuting from an F-15 shot down by friendly fire over Kuwait:
Only kidding.
What about Kai Trump?
What about Yair Netanyahu?
No?
None of them seem to be in harm’s way.
It is most curious.
The murderous Saudi Crown Prince MBS — like always — is playing a double game. When the cameras are on he promotes peace, but when they are off he is cheerleading for war, just like Netanyahu.
It is an amazing accomplishment.
The nation that supplied 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers, and whose royal family was almost steadily involved in the plot, has managed to make US soldiers their Hessians.
Truthfully, it will never be fully known whether it was Netanyahu or MBS who manipulated Trump more effectively in lashing American soldiers to do their bidding without a strategy, a plan, or even a pretense of American security interests being threatened.
It is quite the accomplishment.
The Mar-a-Lago bartenders and waitresses sacrificed throughout the first weekend of war.
The party must go on. As Trump said to his guests on Friday night:
Have a good time, everybody. God Bless the USA. I gotta go to work.
Abraham Lincoln wrote this letter to Mrs. Bixby, mother to five sons who gave what Lincoln called the “last full measure of devotion.”
Here is how he thought about the sacrifice:
Executive Mansion
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.To Mrs. Bixby, Boston, Mass.
Dear Madam,
I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.
I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.
Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
A. Lincoln
Here is how Lindsey Graham thinks about it:
Here is Trump:
That’s the way it is.
Beautiful.
He truly cares.
Soon, American families will bury their dead American soldiers.
What did they die for?
Let’s peel back the platitudes of corrupt and low men like Bill Ackman, Lindsey Graham, Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump.
What did America’s young men and women die for?
Nothing.
They died for nothing.
They died because Bibi Netanyahu manipulated the greatest fool in the history of the United States into attacking Iran without a plan, strategy, or any national consensus.
They died because Trump was lobbied hard by the Saudi thug, who has deposited billions into his family’s bank accounts for an attack against his Iranian enemies.
They died because the Congress has abdicated its power to a loathsome and out-of- control president.
They died because our nation’s leaders are careless, corrupt and incompetent.
They died because they were betrayed by the men and women at the top, who didn’t see them as worthy, important and valuable to the fabric of the United States.
They were expendable.
They were nothing to Trump, Hegseth and Graham, who will not remember their names or their dignity.
They died for nothing.
They died to change the subject from child rape to national security.
They died for Netanyahu and MBS.
They died for MAGA, and MAGA doesn’t care.
What we are witnessing is a national obscenity.
Trump’s war has begun, and he has no plan or way to stop it.
The Iranian regime will not collapse from air attack.
Donald Trump promised peace, and he has delivered war.
Only a true fool could not see this coming, and because America’s media classes are filled with fools and opportunists, the American people were led to believe something that was never true.
They were told that Trump abhors war.
He does not.
All fascists love war.
Trump is a fascist, and America is at war.
It is a war we will not win because there is no plan to win because there is no reason to fight it.
Elections have consequences, and here we are.
There is trouble ahead.
Have no doubt about that.
An unnecessary war has begun in which American soldiers are fighting for the interests of foreign powers and dying not for freedom, but for corruption.
It is pitiful.
It is tragic.
It is MAGA.

This is an excellent piece this morning. I wish it would be published on the front page of the NYT Washington Post and LA Times.. My heart is broken . lost in america
Thank you, Steve,
Eisenhower warned in 1961 that a permanent war economy would distort American foreign policy from defense into something else entirely. He was right. Congress has formally declared war exactly five times in American history. Every conflict since Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan has proceeded under authorizations or executive action alone.
Each time, the accountability gap between those who order the fighting and those who do the dying has widened.
Madison warned that the Constitution gave Congress the war power precisely because the executive branch has a structural incentive toward conflict.
Who in Washington today is prepared to reclaim it?
