I for one, as a Jew, would love to see Elon fly the fuck out of here with his genetic miscreants to Mars. The sooner the better. And please don’t come back. I hope he enjoys the wonderful clean air and marvelous temps on Mars. The radiation is to die for. There’s no magnetic field on Mars thus no radiation protection and no compass would work. I guess he would live underground? Not for me. I hope he enjoys it.

God Bless you and keep you safe. I hope Musk goes to Mars on his own dime. I don't think his children should be his subjects. I wish we could save them from him. Although I'm not a Netanyahu fan, I respect and love our Jewish friends and neighbors. We have to stand together.

Superb writing, so conversationally observant, as if listening to asides at that very party. Thank you, again, Steve for your historical acumen, for letting us re-live the brilliance that came before but that is so easily submerged by the present. Nazis abound. Absolutely. The past is never dead. It’s not even past. Let’s say the same for these 80-plus-year-old words that hold up a looking glass to Project 2025. I hope your travels are going well.

Thank you.

Right here in VT….folks, it is NOW real.

Mohsen Madahwi-disappeared after being entICEd to an immigration meeting in Winooski.

The Republican governor of our state can only lecture us on ‘decorum’: Be gracious to the pathetic JD Vance when he seeks to provoke VT by coming up for a little ski weekend. That went well. He left a day early, but if he was testing our governor’s closeted loyalty he got his answer. Scott said nothing.

Then around the ‘HandsOff!’ 4/5 events in VT-another ‘Miss Manners’ edict about us Vermonters all needing to ‘rise above the national discourse’….then this man gets nabbed and what? Nothing for two days. Radio silence. Our congressional rep, Becca Balint, a woman who minces no words when it comes to BS like this has to go have a talk with Phil, whom I’m betting had his inbox overflowing with ‘WTAF?-how’s about growing a pair?’ messages before he issue a pointed but ‘cautiously’ worded response yesterday.

Meanwhile in an Oval Office that has been ‘enhanced’ to look like a bordello waiting room, the shrinking man is yucking it up and glad-handing a banana republic goon about building concentration camps in El Salvador while little Marco and all the other goon-wannabes are sitting around beaming sycophantic adoration to cover their scared-shitless state of <0 gutlessness, and Stephen Miller, aptly monikered as Eichmann 2.0 is like the wannabe Dr. Strangelove in the room-kind a baby with diarrhea, he cannot restrain himself from spewing Nazi-like garbage and probably alot of actual spit all over everyone sitting within six feet of where he was standing.

NEWSFLASH: THIS IS NOT A SET PIECE TRIAL RUN STIRY BOARD FOR SOME NEW HBO SERIES.

IT IS REAL.

Thank you for your strident urgency in this moment and gut backing it up by having Reverend Barber on your show. When it comes to what Christian Nationalism is NOT, there is no more forceful and eloquent spokesperson for the tenets of the Social Gospel-i.e. stuff like The Sermon on the Mount, The Lord’s Prayer and The Prayer of Saint Francis) that the framers of Project2025 have declared is for pussies, cowards and weaklings.

Please ask Becca Balint and Bernie Sanders to join you. I guarantee you that it will not be a disappointing session.

Thank you again, Steve Schmidt. I’d be happy to be as ‘irrelevant’ as the moral vacuum punk who holds laughable the title of Secretary of State says you are. He oughta know ‘irrelevancy’-as he’s a walking talking example of how deadly it can become when it caves in on itself.

In a world where a surprising 9-0 vote against this regime from a Supreme Court that consists of three people of conscience trapped in a room with 6 cowardly smudges is read by said regime as a total ‘win’, may we ALL strive for what this clown cadre is branding as such utter ‘insignificance’….

I do believe that our lives and the lives of those to come may well depend on it.

I wouldn't bank on that vote against holding up in any meaningful way. There's a reason for the focus on "facilitating," which I believe will be made clear as this case proceeds.

Yes, the TFG crowd is playing around with semantics on that word "facilitating". Why won't those 9 robed wizards just come out and say, "Go get that man out of that El Salvadoran prison and bring him back to his home? While you're at it, bring the other men with questionable accusations who are there back also."

See how simple that is? JFC!

Elon's plot against the world is straight out of James Bond's Moonraker. Yet the threat he represents is dangerously real, and should not be underestimated or dismissed as fantasy. We need to start thinking in terms of justice against all of these fascist thugs who seek to destroy our country and enslave anyone not in their "master race" or clique. Would it be some type of international tribunal? We can't let Trump's pardons be the end of the process. We must be prepared to seek retributive justice against them after we defeat them. They are not mere criminals. They are international gangsters and terrorists seeking to rule not just the US, but the world. They want to use state terror, concentration camps, and inevitably they will conduct mass murder. Let's just get that out there. And they must hear it from our leaders that these are not normal times, and the way we end up dealing with them will not be constrained by illegal pardons. Like at Nuremberg, we will give them the due process they seek to deny others. We will act legally, fairly, and justly. But they will and must pay for their monstrous crimes, being committed right in front of us.

NanceeM's avatar

But first they must be defeated. Those young enough to carry the memories forward will need to seek that justice, as it's unlikely in my remaining lifetime.

Nor should you. My point was that I expect a long struggle ahead. There are protests happening on a regular basis in which I participate & for which I recruit, though we can't be sure when we might be forcibly stopped. My Senators and Rep are all Democrats, but I send along my comments just to reinforce positions. I give money, write postcards during campaigns, and vote. I counsel my granddaughter. As a septuagenarian, I will not be leading the charge into the future, but do what I can for those I'll leave behind.

I read about Avner Less ... He interviewed Eichmann for 275 hours.. He said that there are Eichmanns all around us ...He said , they are harmless in a democracy but in an authoritarian state they become deadly in an instant. I see people like that all around us ..They are fine with everything that is happening to individuals and to our rule of law. To them this is a good thing. As long as "they" don't come for them. I heard what Pam Bondi said today about the young man mistakenly deported to the gulag. She said, "He is not coming back .." I started to cry. I rest my case. Avner was 100% right.

Elon Musk is a man uniquely positioned to solve climate change problems and generally make this earth a better place.

Instead, he’s decided to take his billions into space and create a new world elsewhere. And what a sad version of our glorious planet it will be. What an idiot.

You can see how dangerous on Maddow last night- she interviewed the whistleblower and his lawyer. This is a national security red alert. It's frightening.

Pam Bondi is our own Franz Gürtner, the Third Reich's German Minister of Justice - she would have made Hitler and the Nazis so proud.

From Wikipedia:

"In July 1935, Gürtner amended Paragraph 175 of the German penal code to extend its scope and increased the penalties. By the end of 1935, it was already apparent that neither Gürtner nor Frick would be able to impose limitations on the power of the Gestapo, or control the SS camps where thousands of detainees were being held without judicial review. Instead of resigning, Gürtner again stayed on. To mark the fourth anniversary of the Nazi regime on 30 January 1937, Hitler determined to enroll all the remaining non-Nazi ministers in the Nazi Party and to confer personally upon them the Golden Party Badge. By his acceptance, Gürtner officially joined the Nazi Party.

During World War II, the feeble protestation of the Ministry of Justice was weakened still further, as alleged criminals were increasingly handled by the Gestapo and SS, without recourse to any court of law. Gürtner provided official sanction and legal grounds for a series of repressive actions, beginning with the institution of Ständegerichte (drumhead courts-martial) that tried Poles and Jews in the occupied eastern territories, and later for decrees that opened the way for implementing the Final Solution. A district judge and member of the Confessing Church, Lothar Kreyssig, wrote to Gürtner protesting (correctly) that the T4 program was illegal (since no law or formal decree from Hitler had authorised it); Gürtner promptly dismissed Kreyssig from his post, telling him, "If you cannot recognise the will of the Führer as a source of law, then you cannot remain a judge."

Steve,

I have great respect and admiration for you and Reverend Barber—and Joyce Vance and Mark Elias and Michael Moore all of who I follow and read the anger and frustration in the notes of their numerous followers. Is there a way to merge all of these different groups into a single massive petition,

massive enough to encourage Republicans to sign?

I have been circulating and getting signers for The People’s Articles of Impeachment Against Donald J. Trump. I have over 300 signers, but We Need 100,000,000! Could we agree on a similar petition that will be promoted by You, Reverend Barber, Joyce Vance, Mark Elias, and Michael Moore?

Please consider this.

I wonder if impeachment now would become a sideshow and a distraction from what is going on... Maybe we wait until we take back the House and then pressure the Senate even if we don't have a majority...Also, I don't trust Vance at all... There would have to be a wholesale clean-out of this regime. But, IMHO, now is not the time...

I would say that the efficacy of the endeavor is secondary to the need to send the clear message of disapproval. We cannot leave unchallenged the argument that Trump is breaking the rules, but it is only for the good of the country. No. It is not Trump’s decision to make. Congress makes the laws. If Vance replaces Trump, at least it will be on those terms.
