I look forward to receiving Morning Shots from Charlie Sykes, just one of the offerings from the superb Bulwark platform that alternately provokes, informs, illuminates, inspires and entertains. I received my email from the Bulwark team and Charlie at 6:34 am yesterday, and the truth is that I can’t get it out of my head. The simple truth is that it is wonderful, astonishing, mesmerizing, intoxicating and more than a bit disturbing, all at once.
It began with a picture that if I must say was a bit much before dawn.
When looking at the golden Trump head it’s important to understand that it wasn’t a joke or a prop. It’s a devotional, and the offering is sincere.
Next, I was reminded of a Toby Keith classic by a perfect Bill Kristol tweet. The words from the Keith classic aren’t:
I ain't as good as I once was
My how the years have flown
But there was a time, back in my prime
When I could really hold my own
If you want to fight tonight
Guess them boys don't look all that tough
I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once
As I ever was
The Kristol tweet reads:
No truer words have ever been spoken. The degeneracy, decay, idiocy, corruption and utter insanity of CPAC, Trump, Matt Schlapp and the “Team of Grifters” literally beggar description, but Mr. Kristol did it. He captured it perfectly though he was a tad ungenerous to Mussolini. I suspect he would have loved the fascism, been aroused by the extremism, but flabbergasted by the incompetence, and disoriented by the freakery. One suspects Mussolini wouldn’t appreciate Dr. Sebastian Gorka and the rest of his musty cabal lingering on the balcony for selfies. Il Duce was a fascist, but his cronies weren’t bred in a trailer, and they didn’t sell fish oil.
