Mr. Schmidt, I love and admire and appreciate what you do; however, you did not answer the first question posed. What should Governor Pritzker do about Trump's illegal ordering of the National Guard and military to occupy Chicago? I am not trying to put you on the spot. I am genuinely curious. I think he should ally with other Democratic governors and agree to use their state NG's to block the illegal entry of Trump's occupation forces.

I would love for that to be a possibility, but I fear the fascist might be able to overrule the state’s instructions. I also fear that if any state did so, the conman would send in the federal troops. Then we all would have to hope that those under orders from their pathetic, incompetent, unworthy ‘Commander in Chief’ would collectively shout a resounding NO to those orders. I anxiously await Steve’s response.

Catastrophic problems require drastic solutions. This situation must be brought to a head and resolved. If Trump resorts to violence, we can only hope that the NG and military troops would refuse to obey unconstitutional orders in sufficient numbers to bring this rotten regime down. Then, we could move forward with a Constitutional Convention empowered to create a government and economy that would never again let the oligarchs and their befuddled followers threaten what we hold dear.

I don't think it's time to engage in combat. We must remain peaceful because Trump wants any excuse to escalate. But do photograph anything you can while staying safe.

Recently in court, Trump lost in California, but the judge's order doesn't go into effect until September 12, and only if Trump doesn't appeal. He probably will. Originally he deployed the National Guard for 60 days, then extended it for 90 days, which means if he gets his way, they'll still be in California for the election on whether or not voters will allow redistricting as a counter-measure to Texas' redistricting.

CalMatters, a California nonprofit news source, said:

"President Donald Trump’s deployment of the military to Los Angeles violated federal laws and his use of the armed forces must be heavily curtailed in California, a federal judge ruled [9/2/2025] in a 52-page opinion that inveighed against the president’s belief that he has unchecked powers to send the military into U.S. cities.

“'There were indeed protests in Los Angeles, and some individuals engaged in violence,' wrote Charles Breyer, the judge overseeing the trial. 'Yet there was no rebellion, nor was civilian law enforcement unable to respond to the protests and enforce the law.'”

The question was about the illegal ordering of the National Guard and ICE. The answer, Steve gave is there is no stopping it. I wondered about the answer to the question too. But then she didn’t ask how can the illegal invasion/occupation be confronted. My thinking is the mighty Chicagoans of the Windy City will protest in large numbers again as they did this weekend. Guns may be aimed at them though. The world will be looking at this. I hope we don’t have another Tie Amin Square.

Lisa, I agree; huge demonstrations are a critical part of the attempts to stop Trump's illegal and unconsitutional assaults on We the People. I wish Steve had said so and encouraged people around the country to demonstrate and protest relentlessly with gatherings, letters to the editors of newspapers. boycotts, national strikes, etc.

Fascists in Action: Trump’s border czar Tom Homan vowed last week to increase immigration enforcement across sanctuary cities, saying the administration was planning to “flood the zone” with thousands of agents.

Trump Is Our True National Emergency

When the president claims everything is a national emergency, so that he can do whatever he wants, the courts need to regard that as the real emergency.

RFK Jr.’s Own Family Calls on Him to Resign After Trainwreck Hearing

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. doesn’t even have his family’s support.

“I love the smell of deportations in the morning,” Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday morning, an off-base reference to the famous line in the Vietnam film Apocalypse Now, “I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.” “Chicago about to find out why it’s called the DEPARTMENT OF WAR, followed by three helicopters. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker was quick to point out “This is not a joke. This is not normal.”

''In Chicago, Trump will be the invader if he moves in. His claims of rampant crime that state and local authorities can’t handle are undercut by statistics that show serious crime is decreasing, although no one is pretending it’s not a problem. But under our system of federalism, it’s a problem that is left to the states, which have the police power, to resolve.''

Trump knows Chicago isn’t DC.

Just watch him try and see how far he gets. Fucking asshole!

Steve, here is a question for your next broadcast:

There is much talk of Marshall Law. Please explain to us what this really entails as I feel most Americans do not know if the laws full extent. And maybe what its outcome could mean for all of us. Thank you.

What can states do to combat these illegal incursions? The Republicans approved the Big Bloated Bill giving funding to their dear leader to hire countless storm troopers which they are now sending into the blue states. I’ve read (don’t know if it is true) that $50k signing bonuses are being doled out to entice ‘enlistees.’ There are a good many in the country who will find it hard to put their country ahead of that kind of money. There will be many (further) damaged psyches when they realize they sold their soul to the devil. HOW do states fight back without starting the civil war that the conman occupying the Oval Office is hoping for? With each stepped up outrage they are banking on armed resistance so they can say ‘see! Insurrection in the streets! This is why we are here! See!’ It is a no win situation for blue cities/states. Is there a workaround that I am not seeing? How can we prevent the military from following these ILLEGAL orders? How do we protect those who oppose the orders? I have to imagine they would receive ‘dishonorable discharges,’ which of course real patriots would see it as a heroic departure from the formerly esteemed armed forces. I seriously fear that work camps will be housing Democrats and any/all who voice their opposition to this regime. It is mind blowing to consider this as a possible reality within the years to come. Our properties and other assets will be seized. Those who are unable to work will be exterminated. Echoes of Nazi Germany for sure. Each day I try to wrap my head around the complete capitulation by the elected Republicans. How do they not see what they have done? How do they not care? If there is a hell, and in this instance I hope there is, I hope they are forever spinning on a pit once they depart this quickly declining world.

Steve, do you agree that we never ended the Civil War - reconstruction failed becuse of the assination of Lincoln, with the same Richard Russell types coming back as MAGots.

Can we escape from the course we are on without an actual war?

Peter Paul Santa Ana's avatar

The Civil War ended yet the true reconciliation never occurred to its fruition. Sovereign fiat currency offers the means to create what Lincoln espoused. The only challenges remain political and structural. Our first major battle should be waged against hyper capitalists who believe the imaginary free market drives our macroeconomy’s growth and fight against the truth where Fiscal Policy funds the economy…if we can resource a project to completion, Congress can provide the money. Americans must educate themselves and not allow billionaires to lead them by their noses. We must fight these MOFOs’ ideas out of existence!!

one of your absolute best, Steve! thank you for making sense of the senseless for us

Great questions and my thanks to Steve for his clear and valid responses. I f’n despise maga and will not allow disinterest to poison my actions to end this political decadence.

Excellent analysis Steve! I believe MAGA is beginning to fracture as Trump’s Surgeon General in his first term has publicly called for the resignation of the imbecile RFK, Junior! MTG will eventually read the names of the pedophiles that raped and beat young girls and boys and the Orange Monster’s name will be read!!!

Apparently the folks in Chicago came out in a massive protest.

I’m just gonna say it

Alhumdulillah (it means “Praise be to God”)

Unfortunately, with SCOTUS as is, it is apparent that no laws will constrain him, and, if they tried to control him, who would enforce their decisions?

Ronald Richards's avatar

I certainly hope you are correct, but my faith in the general public rising up, or next elections actually happening without "fixing" by some means, has dissolved. We are too fat and comfortable. Leopards eat my face.

I love how you call it what it is. We are in trouble.

Steve, why are Democrats not pressing Trump on the Tik Tok resolution? He and top Republicans deemed it a dire national security issue during the Biden years. Guess that was hyperbole since he realized many of his lemmings are on the app. Secondarily, is he going easy on China tariff-wise because he needs them to resolve the Tik Tok issue to his minions satisfaction?
