What would motivate the Republicans in Congress to do what they do...?
Trump, MAGA, and the Russians have threatened the congressmen and their families lives. It really is that simple. Trump is a mob boss. This is basic stuff guys. "Oh... not in America..."..yes in America.
Adam, all the “ older” people I know are voting for progressive candidates. Also, most struggled with debt and limited job opportunities. Some people overcame these problems, but some didn't. There are still “older “ people who rely on Social Security to pay for basic necessities. Many could never afford a home. So, in summary, these generalizations which you express are divisive and create prejudice.
Susan L. I would guess that you aren't replying to my comment but to Adam M. I agree with you only to the extent that Adam does qualify that he is not generalizing about all the different groups that he discusses. He is young and passionate and not seasoned as you and I are. His group is suffering more so than than they should and he is correct about a large group of elders being more concerned about their future and housing prices...but wouldn't it be great if none of us had to worry about paying our bills and worry about having an affordable place of our own to live?
I’m pushing progressive as I have all my life and I think things are critical enough now that my wish for a mature capitalism that takes care of all our operational necessities is possible. Women and minorities get it—paid less from day one and pay the most to finance anything. (Entitled males rarely realize that they are operationally entitled. )
They "the Republican Congress" could have cut it off in the beginning! They let it go too far. There are powers to deal with "the mob boss" They have lost their power and credibility with most sane Americans. They would have had protections that could have been called on. I understand your thoughts here, but Americans are being killed. Where does it end if not with those holding the power and responsibility to stand against the fascists? I am so angry with what is happening. I am not trying to be argumentative; I just see a well-paid Congress with the best benefits letting the masses suffer when they could have pulled the plug early on. Look where we are because they did not do their jobs, we are losing our freedoms, our lives are at risk. This regime should have been stopped before they had time to tear down leaders and those in positions that were qualified and replaced with "yes" men and women that will allow a maniac to destroy the best country in the world. Those allowing this takeover of America deserve the same punishment as this fascist regime. We can no longer make excuses for anyone allowing this to happen, this is America - this should not be happening in America in the first place.
I agree. The last opportunity to stop Trump and his cohorts was Tillis and one lousy Republican more. They were threatened with the only thing that could have caused them to do what they did. It is up to us now to do what must be done.

This kind of heartless callous response by the very wealthy against those who are less fortunate a complete lack of empathy for one's fellow citizens. These fascists are beyond embarrassment and shame and exposes their disdain for the impoverished in our county. Reagan laid out the Republican premise 40y ago with his made up “welfare queen” and now the fascists are willing to financially imperil millions of our fellow citizens.

Please be aware of Trump's affinity for Putin and also how desperate Putin, Netanyahu and Trump all are in this crazy world at this point. The Capital One lawsuit is bringing out a possible connection between Trump and Iran from before he was president the first time. Lately NATO countries are on high alert because Russia has been testing weapons, "accidentally" sending stray missiles Into Poland and also threatening Baltic states.
NATO allies are also warning that Putin may stage a false flag event using Ukrainian missiles to attack a Baltic state or Poland. If this happens, I have to wonder what side Trump will be on. See recent posts by Zev Shalev and also today's post by Olga Lautman for more information.

I was really happy to hear you say Jamie Davis was a great candidate in Louisiana! I lived in Shreveport, LA for 6 years — in Mike Johnson’s district where I almost got booted from his “town halls.” It was really fun watching MJ screw his eyes up in utterly fake piety as a prayer was done or to hear one of his co-congregants from Bossier’s 1st Baptist Church scream that science was a liberal conspiracy. Louisiana really needs good Dem candidates AND support from the Democratic Party!
I am a boomer and I have been saying for years that the Democrats have to work harder to encourage younger people with fresh ideas to run for office. They also have to invest more support for candidates in local and state campaigns. We all realize (or should realize) that the best candidates start at the bottom and work their way up because they take the time to interact with their constituents and are more "in tune" with their constituents thoughts and concerns. Maybe more young people would vote if there are candidates running for office that they can relate to. I also think that there should be term limits for most public offices. It's ridiculous when we look at the ages of our elected officials and Federal judges. How many of them are over the age of 75? Senior citizens are running this country.
