The main reason to vote against Donald Trump isn’t his unsurpassed record of incompetence, division, violence, faithlessness and corruption, but rather the tragedies to come.
In fact, though the record of Trump’s malice is luminescent, it will only be remembered by historians as clear evidence that everybody knew about what was to come, despite the later inevitable amnesia that makes it impossible to find a MAGA supporter. What no one will remember, and everyone will ultimately deny, is what will happen if Donald Trump takes power in America.
More than anything I have tried to advance an argument and use English language words to describe a gathering threat that was revealing itself in an ever more aggressive striptease. What should it be called? When should it be called by its name? What will always be true about those of us who were amongst the first to call fascism by its name in the 2010s and 20s were uniformly people who understood the term and the implication. There is no appetite on my part to receive any credit for prescience. My goal wasn’t to predict, but rather to warn that a terrible malevolence was coming.
I have written a great deal about 20th century fascism, and have taken The Warning subscribers with me from Normandy to the Eagle’s Nest, and the places where some of the most evil acts in human history took place. Additionally, I have written about the heroism, values, genius and wisdom that it took to defeat it and prevail in a long twilight struggle against an insidious ideology that stifled the human spirit.
Tuesday was a day of revelation. The man who brought two cults of weirdness and insanity together into a political coalition of fascist nuttery sat down with Darryl Cooper, a Nazi who villainized Winston Churchill as the “chief villain of World War II.”
Of course, this means someone else wasn’t so bad after all and all of that other stuff….well, it didn’t exactly happen like that, right?
It’s the most poisonous lie in history. It is shameful, and it is deeply embedded within the cultural rot of America’s MAGA cancer.
The interview with the Nazi was conducted by the same man who flew to Budapest and became the first American to properly venerate Europe’s newest apostle of Hitlerism.
Later he went to Moscow where he performed as a primo ballerina of useful idiocy.
Tucker Carlson is his name, and now his media company has been indicted as being a front for the Russians.
“Incredible” and “true” are two words that don’t always fit together, but in this case they do.
Tucker Carlson is a prince of MAGA, and his cause is MAGA’s cause.
It is an un-American cause.
Winston Churchill was a giant and an honorary American citizen.
Here is a scene from his funeral which I have written about before:
Let me ask you a question: does that look like the “chief villain of World War II” to you?
If someone believes that, and spreads that lie in 2024, what does it make them? I can see that clearly.
Can you?
“Let me ask you a question: does that look like the “chief villain of World War II” to you?”
Churchill was definitely not the chief villain during WW2. Churchill was a stalwart of western resolve and valor.
That said, I had no idea that “alternative facts” had infiltrated and been floating throughout MAGA and the far right for so long.
It’s getting to the point where words have no meaning. Fascism, Socialism, and all of the “ism’s” are used so haphazardly, that nothing makes sense anymore. It’s Orwell’s 1984, or worse.
Let’s just hope we get through this election intact and Harris prevails. I can’t even fathom a different result…:)
The USA has now officially descended into madness. Thank you for the clip of Churchill’s funeral. I was born in 1953. No one of my generation who heard the stories of WWII from our parents would ever believe such utter and complete perversion of history and reality. Churchill was revered here, and with good reason. Tucker and his “historian” are selling complete and absolute fascism without apology or shame. “Not Hitler’s fault??????” I feel as if I am living in an alternate reality now. We must not lazily and foolishly fade into this abyss. Thank you again, Steve.
