Jon Osoff is an exceptional candidate. Let us hope his fighting spirit rubs off on all elected Dems this fall. Hopeful as the situation is, it is discouraging to know that Hakeem Jeffries will be House Speaker after the victory. He's not a bad guy but boy, is he clueless. I can not imagine a more feckless or less inspiring leader. I hope all the newly elected Dems will make him realize that he has to grow a pair.

The 26 midterms are the turning point battle of our political civil war like Gettysburg was the battle that started the defeat of slavery in the Civil War.

I am 75 years old and time is precious at this point in my life, so I dare not wish it away. However, I cannot wait until November 3, 2026, when the Democrats take the house and maybe, hopefully the Senate and begin to get rid of the evil motherfuckers who've been running our beloved country into the ground.

Ditto! I'm going to be 80 on my next birthday and I agree. I want my country BACK.

It’s impossible for me to get how anyone who’s not joining his grift actions could possibly support him on anything! Full stop.

I agree with you, Steve, about what Senator Ossof said. It remains difficult for me to show grace to MAGA voters, but I think it is worth the effort — for a larger good.

John Glenn, when he was in the Mercury Space Program, was fond of saying you have to give 110 percent. He was right then and he still is.

We can only hope that MAGA voters have learned not to be swayed by empty promises and slogans. Every voter should ask HOW candidates plan to achieve their goals and look carefully into the character of all candidates.

I can't say I will show MAGA voters "grace." I am not even certain what that often religiously based word means. I can forgive them, provided they acknowledge they made a grave mistake in supporting Trump, MAGA, and Christian nationalism.

If they don't understand why they voted for MAGA candidates and why it was against their own interests, they'll do it again.

Jon Ossoff is the best. Big money must be eliminated from our politics. For example, luring corporations into investing in a certain state or locality by offering huge tax breaks must be made illegal. It is just another way corporations and wealthy people exploit the rest of us.

Elections must be publicly financed, given specific amounts of free air time, and all candidates must berequired to debate any other legitimate candidates.

And we owe Alito to the Bush Family, who have also done grave damage to this country.

One of the biggest proponents of the dark money destroying this country is Samuel Alito. No surprise.

Thanks Anthony...I have been saying forever that elections should be publicly financed and they should be given free airtime. Of course SCOTUS blew that up for sure.

Sorry, Steve, but I’m afraid America’s fate was sealed on February 5th, 2020, when a MAGA Republican Senate acquitted the President in his first impeachment trial without so much as hearing the testimony of a single witness. That’s when Jabba-the-Trump learned that there would be NO circumstances under which he’d be held to account by the Congress of the United States. That was the green light to his every unlawful act in the years since. Of course, it didn’t help that Merrick Garland dilly-dallied charging him. But the greatest share of responsibility for throwing the door wide open for Jabba to roll through must rest with traitorous Republican Senators—thus sealing our fate—over six years ago.

Deb Harbour's avatar

I agree we must remove these republicans from Congress. They do not do their job and have not held trump accountable for anything. Our job is to vote them all out.

Steve you are the best. Thank you for what you do sir!!

"Country over cult"? I'm sorry but divisions between nation states are but one of the many ways in which people are divided from each other on this planet and all too often pitted against each other in every thing from economics to warfare. Patriotism is allegiance to one nation state. It's taught in schools & fomented in many cultural rituals. The best reasons for fighting against cults, like the MAGA cult around Trump, are the characteristics of the policies being pushed & all too often enacted by them, e.g., racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, homo/transphobic, such as their attacks on DEI, efforts to force schools to teach particular religions, transfer income up the income hierarchy, wiping out regulations that restrict corporate corruption and pollution, handing over public land to be ravaged for profit, endless support for Zionist expansionism & genocide, etc. Much of the support is from White Christian Nationalists, guilty of ALL the above characteristics. For details on the latter, see Katherine Stewart's book MONEY, LIES & GOD (2025) and "follow" her postings on Bluesky or other social media. Steve's correct, we must fight the cult, but basing opposition on "country" is dangerous footing for fighting back.

It really is time to put the environment and global population ahead of the narrow interests of our country. Every country must commit to putting global problems before their nationalist goals and myths, e.g. considering the U.S. an "exceptional nation" and thus "more important" than others. All nations must give up the extreme nationalism and religious intolerance that leads them to fear and envy each other. No one should attempt to use their arbitrary religious beliefs as the basis for domestic or foreign policy. As important as freedom of religion is, freedom from religion is more important.

Sounds impossible; it isn't. It is just very unlikely. That is why we are most likely to be an extinct species well before the end of this century.

Yeah...and I'm nervous . 2 Terms of not being saved from a potenyial world fate worse than death can do that to an individual...plus watching Drmocrats remain absorbed in their deadly decisive squabbles instead of focusing on uniting everyone to vote as one to save ALL of us..really makes me nervous...as well as furious and disgusted. It's as though they never fn learn.

Unfortunately the continuous poll numbers indicating the lowest support of any president at this mid point is going to lead to narcissistic collapse and the Jan 6 type coup will now be done using federal agents at the polls. It will be the death knell for our 250 yr run. I thought VN was our low point w a Watergate chaser but this is going to be tragic.

Yes, the DOJ will be sending out 1,000 "poll watchers."

A triumphant Roman General would ride his festooned chariot through the streets, waving to citizens of the Empire. Behind the victorious General, a slave stood and whispered, “Memento Mori” —“Remember you are mortal; you will die!” Natalie Harp is the antithesis of this wise tradition. This disturbed and disturbing girl tries to convince Trump that he is immortal. The PEDOPHILE-IN-CHIEF desperately flails to believe her.

I felt somewhat relieved and calmed by your podcast. Thank you for explaining how trump and Co. will have to pay for their evil doings.

We are moving very close to the WW3 cliff, and this is not hyperbole. He is a demented madman, a man who could at any time just say "Take me to the bunker" and call it a day. He'll eat MacDonalds every day, sleep and entertain (anyone who fawns over him - for at least a few weeks). At that point he would be at peace with his hamburgers and fries. He does not care about anything or anyone. He said war was "fun". On Feb 28, 2025, he voted with Iran, North Korea and Russia (and Israel and Hungary) at the UN to say that Zelinsky started the war. He is fucking out of his mind. But if we do make it, there are several key items that Democrats should run on: 1) No foreign funding - zero, zilch, nothing - what has happened here is treason and with $40 trillion in debt, the answer should always be NFW. 2) The Presidential Pardon should be gone, done, 3) Insider trading by Congress, gone, done, 4) An active campaign by the states to eradicate the scourge of Citizens United and the destruction it has brought this country, turning it into a freakin whore's circus, 5) Nationalized healthcare just like most of Europe - and of course Israel - (you pay for it). It's pathetically comical how trump bleated out one day recently, "I'm just going to take it over", 6) End the genocide in Gaza - declared a genocide by all major humanitarian groups, some who started - irony of all ironies - right after WW2, 7) Sure, spend our defense funds on new technology but get rid of the abject waste thought to be in the $400-$500 billion area. I can't believe that Andy Biggs even said that the DOD should not get a dime more until they actually pass an audit. I am disgusted by everything trump, this congress and this scotus have done here so really could go on here for hours just like everyone else..... but let's hear some concrete promises from the Dems. The war industry, the gun industry, the oil and gas industry, the chemical industry, the social media industry and the healthcare industry have been destructing us - they buy congress and the white house for a $1 and get $30 back. The result? More wars, more guns, more pollution, more degenerative behavior, the greedy assault of higher medical costs. Scream people. Time to fucking scream.

What about the possibility of him delaying the certification of the election results in lengthy court battles, or even declaring a national emergency or martial law to stay in power? Apparently, there will be a huge ICE presence at polling places - are we really prepared for what this monster can do?

Beverly G. D. H's avatar

I am surprised, but if the MAGAs I know jump ship, I'll buy them dinner. I'm not seeing the shift yet, but I trust you are correct.
