The Trump freak show is a tired spectacle. It meanders in a dirty trough. It’s a national lazy river that loops languidly around and around and around. Tedious doesn’t begin to describe it, or the packs of hustlers, losers, fraudsters, weirdos and thugs who laze on its banks waiting to devour their piece of floating detritus.
It is time to move on and up again, isn’t it?
According to Politico, the costs for following Donald Trump over the abyss have been shattering for many Americans and their families. They chose to become felons and convicts by betraying their country in the name of the most unworthy cause since the Confederacy.
Watching Lindsey Graham squirm and stammer like he is at the precipice of a seizure under pressure from George Stephanopoulos demonstrates his moral decrepitude and the utter lunacy of this moment — where a talent for appeasement, flaccidity in the face of duty and happy submission to venality — are the lifeblood of success within a MAGA/Republican party that stands for weakness in national character, spirit and integrity. It is rotten to the core and irredeemable in its present iteration where layers of quislings, weaklings, extremists, losers, opportunists, abusers writhe together in a daily spectacle of decay and rot where, no matter what they believe, Donald Trump should be returned to power as president of the United States of America to seek “retribution” against his enemies.
Here is his soon-to-be daughter-in-law Kimberly Guilfoyle, who distinguishes herself at family gatherings as the only female fired from Fox News for sexual misconduct:
Do you remember this at the 2020 Republican National Convention?
The best is yet to come, indeed.
This must be the secret that burns deep within Mike Pence. Surely he knows that his presidential campaign is a farce with no prospects of success and no rationale for existence. Think about it. Mike Pence has already pledged to support the man who tried to kill him if he is the GOP nominee. There is nothing that will break the spell for men so weak as Lindsey Graham, Mike Pence and all the rest of their ilk who cower and quake when Trump rants and raves. It is beyond pathetic, though it is not as shameful as the victories won with majority support of an apathetic public that has sent multitudes of the worst from amongst us to rule over us in a continuous cycle of abuse, neglect, corruption, lying and gaslighting. It persists because the American people permit it. We have become hostages to a political system in which the politicians exhibit cult-like fanaticism towards their political leadership and contempt for their country, its flag, constitution and people. Disgusting doesn’t begin to describe it.
Make no mistake, Donald Trump remains the leader of the MAGA/GOP, despite his utter unfitness and betrayal of trust for one reason: cowardice. It’s that simple. He is fueled by the fears and ambitions of his cadres of sycophants and opportunists who believe in nothing beyond the avoidance of Trump’s wrath.
Yet, despite the calls to violence by the most addled voices thrust upon us by an outrage industry that makes pornographers look virtuous, there doesn’t seem to be much outrage in real life about the arrest of our former deviant-in-chief who loved his boxes so much that, like King Midas, he was undone by his passion. Here’s Kari Lake trying to trigger an incel sitting in a basement:
Here’s my question: who’s up for the revolution?
How about you, Lindsey?
Josh Hawley?
Cancun Cruz?
Who’s ready for the great Trump War? Interestingly, it won’t be America’s first Pig War, so looks like we will have to call it Pig War II.
What greater glory could there be for the MAGA faithful than to be able to lay down your life — or even better, watch your children do it — for the power and vanity of the Trump family? Talk about sacrifices worth making! MAGA martyrdom sounds great. Where is the enlistment office?
At first, most people laughed about Trump. Everyone dismissed him. He couldn’t get 10%, then 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%. Next, it was going to be a brokered convention, and of course, he couldn’t beat Hillary Clinton. But he did.
The power broke him completely. It magnified his rottenness of character like it magnified the spinelessness of his enablers, like Lindsey Graham and a thousand others, who abandoned all that they claimed faith in for a little temporary what exactly?
The MAGA/GOP is a hive of extraordinary weakness and submission. Truly. It is astounding and historic. The complete capitulation to an orange-hued hustler,
“a short-fingered vulgarian” with a mean tweet arsenal of nicknames, is an astonishment of our age no less mysterious than Trump’s desire to keep his boxes filled with America’s most sensitive secrets.
Yet, they are holding steady in their devotion to Trump. It is unbreakable. Mostly what Lindsey Graham and others have demonstrated is that it is possible for human beings to assume the agency of house plants, should they so choose. Even in our divided era, can’t we agree that these aren’t admirable qualities amongst the people voted into office to decide questions of war and peace on behalf of 334 million of us? What a depressing epoch we are living through.
It turns out that “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” was based in reality — only it wasn’t the kids that were shrunk, but all of America. Our horizons, dreams, patriotism, opportunities, all became smaller because of one man. Everything was made brittle that was once thought solid and strong. Meanness thrived against decency. The lie took root and overwhelmed the truth. It strangled it in broad daylight until it became impossible to know the light from the dark, as the lie and the truth stood equal in the public consciousness — indecipherable and unknowable for millions of Americans.
The result are these dangerous days and historic tests for a system that has lost trust and connection with millions of us who have been poisoned by the American version of Bhopal. A toxic cloud of politicians, media greed, corporate greed and self-interest threatens the future liberties of our descendants. It is shameful. We must stop this. We must end this era. We must find our way to something better. It is time for change. Real change. Fundamental change.

In the period after the J6 insurrection, McConnell wanted to “let the Democrats take care of Trump.” This is as much of an admission as we will get of the Republican party’s impotence & of their faith in Democrats to do the right thing, to do the hard work to clean up yet another mess the GOP made. Kevin McCarthy knew that when it came down to saving the republic from its first ever default, that Democrats, not his own party, would save the global economy. All of the GOP candidates for POTUS await the day when Merrick Garland’s DOJ & Fanni Willis will take Trump out of the running for them. They understand what’s right & expect the Democrats to act on it rather than doing it themselves. You were to kind to them, Steve.
Still trying to decide which analogy is the most fitting: Bhopal cloud that kills; worse than pornography that ruins morals, or the eternal favorite of Mos Eisley as a hive of villainy. The MAGA crowd fits all of these and many more.
Well structured arguments. It goes back to something I read over the weekend about the support does not come from conviction or policy, but from being allowed to display their bigotry. Watching the Grahams and other Trump-apologists is a type of mind-withering pornography, designed to see who can be the greatest contortionist to meet Trump's approval.
I have never understood the need for acceptance by a crowd that lacks any belief in integrity or truth. Possibly best summed up by Liz Cheney as "... when Trump is gone, your dishonor will remain..."
