Julia Letlow, a Trump bootlicker from Louisiana, won the MAGA primary and will be Louisiana’s next United States Senator.

Louisiana ranks 50th for economic well-being, 49th for environmental quality, 46th for education, and 44th for healthcare. It would rank 1st for murder rate, but that spot is held by MAGA serfdom Mississippi.

Go ahead and keep electing the people intent on destroying you.

It staggers the imagination that people keep voting this way .

They do it because political parties string the working class and the poor along with social issues and scare tactics. They appeal to the basest, ugliest sentiments that exist among people who have nothing and cannot even fathom the kind of wealth that suppresses all.

It will be very difficult to get out from a problem like this and even a concerted effort for change may be too late for the country. Already the idiots in Louisiana are saying there are Bolsheviks in the Northeast, not realizing, or just plain stupid, that the only thing keeping Louisiana afloat is the tax dollars sent to it by the Blue States.

Yep ! You are right !

I bet the election was fixed - we need to see the paper ballots - if there are any!

I am sure the ballot counting was adjusted by Trump's fellow criminals.

What else do you expect? Their current senator has no backbone no moral fiber. Nothing! Trump tells him jump and he says (like they all do) How high Mr President.

If there is a Heaven and John Adams is there, he must be beyond repenting. He must be shaking his head in an agony of grief and anger over what has happened to his country at the hands of MAGGATS, billionaires, grifters, and religious fanatics.

I’ve hope he and other founders would haunt the White House. Or simply gather around Trump and haunt him everywhere. Maybe those are their bite marks covered with makeup on his hands.

Thanks again Steve - brokenhearted and gut wrenching doesn't begin to describe the betrayal and disgust - so much is being destroyed at breakneck speed.

We are proving to be unworthy inheritors of our founders’ gift. This Congress we’ve elected — therefore us — is unworthy of Article 1. The Supreme Court is fascist to its half-dozen core, with Bush v. Gore the harbinger of where they are taking us, numbing us. But their endgame is unsustainable. We will reject all of it, but will we be able to replace it with something worthy of what Adams and company left to us? Ossoff? Auchincloss? Raskin? Murphy? Buttigieg? Newsom? Pritzker? Even you, Schmidt? Your words are tinder awaiting that national spark. We’ve proved — again and again — that we can be led by a strong, moral voice to strong, moral outcomes. Never in my lifetime have right and wrong been at once so obvious and yet so obfuscated. Surely someone will catch fire. If not we both drown and burn.

A day of celebration for our 250 years of democracy was postponed until “We The People” take back control and boot the demagogues out.

I thought my domestic partner (father of my children 😞) was coming around to understand the importance of voting. He served four years in the Marines at the end of Vietnam. He has never voted, not once. He registered earlier this year, not because he believes it’s his civic duty, but because Facebook told him to..in a random fucking post. Last week we had two arguments. I am full of shit when I say 47 is the most corrupt president in history. And I am an asshole for saying Samuel Alito and his buddies on the Supreme Court are white supremacists. You can’t fix stupid. If I could turn back time…😞

That is regrettable. I know not of more specifics of your situation of course, but my inclinations are to never let bullshit fly. Whether you can sustain such or not I don't know. There might be some danger? And of course, in the instance of such danger, departure might be a wise course.

Re. 47 being corrupt and white supremacist - the movement in general - just get him to watch the "highlights" on video from the final Republican convention of 2024... the *comedian* making black people eating watermelon jokes... immigrants poisoning the blood of our country... . Etc. .

That - Is - Fucking - Racist.

In any event, be well and stay smart.

No danger. He’s the one who needs to be worried that I will abandon him in his advancing ill health. If we weren’t trying to survive financially with our grown children still living at home, I would have left a long time ago. They have both taken second jobs so they can afford their car payments and help make the rent to keep us from being homeless. One would think he’d be appreciative…not that narcissistic jerk.

Thank You Steve .. this piece is excellent. I for one will not celibrate on the fourth . It would be too painful. If I can find a local protest I will attend it. When I am at a protest with like people it lifts my spirits. Otherwise I will watch MHz and Walter Presents. They have a lot of foriegn series I love to escape in. They have Italian ,French, and German series that are excellent. I cannot watch any war movies or patriotic movies this year because they will make me cry for my country. Each day my heart breaks . Each day I feel a new outrage . November 3rd cannot get here fast enough. I would no more go to a barbeque on the Fourth then I would walk on hot coals. Nope not this year !There is nothing to celibrate the shithead and company has taken it all . lost in america

Steve, I don't know if you have ever read Thomas Wolfe's "You Can't Go

Home Again" (the title itself speaks to our present moment.) It's closing chapter us entitled "Credo" and it Wolfe transcending enunciates his vision of America. A key passage goes

"I believe that we in America are lost but shall be found." He goes on to affirm his faith that he believed that

"The fulfillment of our democracy lies before us and beckons us ahead." He then goes on to say :that the enemy is also here but I believe we are learning the nature of the enemy and will defeat him. The enemy "is as old as time and as evil as Hell" and identifies him as "compulsive greed". He catalogs the destruction he has wrought on this country and says the enemy masquerades as what America is all about but he shall be unmasked as not being American but rather is as "old as Hell. Look about you and see what he has done." It's is a transcendent and inspiring vision that is more relevant now than ever. God bless you, Steve, in courageously leading the fight!

Steve, politics seems to be troubling most people i know. We all seem to suffer from anxiety and enormous amount of depression. I no longer watch the news in the morning, and found that many of my friends feel the same way too. There is a sense of exasperation and exhaustion.

I, for one, am ready to throw in my Democratic affiliation. The anti-semitic and absurd craziness on the left leaves me stone cold. Is there not some sort of vetting before somebody runs for public office? Do these people not understand that they are flipping the expected blue wave into the opposite? I recall Ralph Nader shutting out Gore, followed by Bernie Sanders handing the 2016 election to Trump. What is it that these people just don't seem to understand or learn from past mistakes?

I believe that we need some clarity and discussion regarding self destruction and self inflicted wounds.

Scott Hunter's avatar

Disagree with your take on events.

Lucien: You seem to imply that you and others you speak of have tuned out some time ago.

Your sense of exasperation and exhaustion probably could be positively affected by some physical outlets if you and others like you tend to mope around.

While I am retired and 79 years old, I do routinely keep politically in touch with the news. However, for my needed diversions I conduct personal and volunteer work projects; while I also diligently pursue daily workout sessions, such as hiking steep hills, incline treadmill and resistance training. I continuously search for healthy nutrition information in order to support my physical health. These keep me fit and mentally alert and positive emotionally at the same time. I also subscribe to the Steve Schmidt podcasts and try to pass along a positive outlook, online, while critical of the corruption and cruelty of this Republican Administration.

I was surprised by your comment; "The anti-semitic and absurd craziness on the left leaves me stone cold." My understanding of statements that have been supported by this podcast and most others from what one may describe as the center or left is that "Antisemitism is prejudice, discrimination, or hostility directed at Jewish people because of their Jewish identity." and that it is not antisemistism; to object to or oppose the conduct of the Israeli government. Do you disagree with that. I would appreciate any explanation of what craziness on the left to which you speak. I do attribute some craziness I have seen from some small contingents of the left to be such as the statement as to "defund the police". At the same time having observed Police in Washington State, in some cases reform is something I can support. In Seattle that police department had been subject in the past to be under Federal Court Ordered Administered Reform. As an example of a need, in one case there was a Native American wood carver, walking along an outlying city street. He was inebriated and awkwardly moving along . This policeman noticed him; which ended up with the officer shooting him from some distance away from him. A distressed woman across the street observing this incident was heard on the recording saying to the officer, why did you shoot him. The account is on wikipedia (.see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_John_T._Williams)

6/29/26 Go Blue Poem

Democracy isn't inherited, it's borrowed

Democracy isn't inherited, it's borrowed

Let that ring in the brain, that's been hollowed

Each generation is given freedom's gift to cherish

This generation has left the gift to languish

We have forgotten the sacrifice of our Forefathers

And pissed on the graves of our mothers and fathers

Who rose up out of a depression to fight

Against fascism so we could keep the Right

To live in a land free from fascist tyranny

Forgetting the blood it took to preserve liberty

We're all to blame, father, mother, son and daughter

For leading Lady Liberty to the slaughter

To be served up on the table of a Queens hustler

A feast for a wannabe king, so he can bluster

About the wealth Republicans have given him

Are we to celebrate this with our national hymn?

Or turn our eyes away, afraid of the sight?

Of freedom on the barbecues, on July 4th's night

The taste of Liberty's flesh will be bitter

Seasoned with the herbs of our generational litter

Will you sing a song of auld lang syne?

And drink her blood full of bile's enzyme

I won't celebrate the feast of a wannabe king

I will say a prayer and let Liberty's bell ring

Hoping the sound of its bell sparks a memory

Ringing out an old song of a sad melody

The tune of fife and drums striking

The memory of wounded soldiers marching

Ready to give their lives so freedom could live

A new country, of patriots with only their lives to give

The dearest gift one could give their descendents

A Constitution for the independence

Laws to guide us because freedom is not free

It requires our due diligence to keep our country

Free from those who break laws for personal gain

Disregarding the sacrifices and the pain

Of our founders struggles to be free

Changing the course of history and our destiny

We must remember to give thanks for the blessing

And restore our souls with our confessing

Sins that allowed us to stray off freedom's path

To again receive a blessing and not their wrath

Now is the time to rejoin the fight

For Liberty's sake, fight with all your might

We mustn't forget the true meaning of the 4th of July

By not letting another day go by

Without your commitment to vote this fall

Be proud to be an American, I say to one and all

A gift left to languish can still be opened

And repair Liberty's heart that's been broken

Voting is a privilege and a Right

Left unused it will inherit our founders' spite

Happy 4th to all who respect the patriots warning

And never forget, who on January 6th did the storming

Sent by Trump to shit on a government's floor

We must stay the course, then show him the door

Our country can not be bought by a Queens whore

Congress must be cleansed to restore

The People's House, destroyed laying in ruin

Hold those responsible and begin the undoing

The damage to the country's reputation

And return the USA to its proper station.

Once again, patriots are needed to redirect our country's course, which has been steered dangerously by an unscrupulous president at the helm. We must right the ship from its destination of slavery. Peace ✌️ Pat (Packy) Paules
