The regime is coming for all we hold dear. Schumer thinks that being cooperative, playing nice, is the answer. As a Jew, old enough to remember the Nazis, he should know better.

Declan's avatar

Over the years, hasn't Chuck, more often than not, caved to the right wing in order to avoid conflict?? He's done it a half a dozen times at least on important issues..

Alan Schnur's avatar

Yes, he has. 'Capitulation' is his middle name.

I've been screaming this for months - THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP HEAD BEEN BOUGHT. They are traitors seeking only to save themselves from Trump's Retribution. But they will not be saved, only processed last after he's done with the rest of them.

This is where Americans need to begin with - realizing they've been compromised and hold absolutely no allegiance or concern for the American people will help others seize the returns of the opposition and worth toward a meaningful resistance.

But time is running out - we only have weeks to affect significant resistance.

Chuck the cuck Shumar is a traitor and a wimp, pure and simple. I wouldn't pi$$ down that man's throat if his lungs were on fire.

The current Democratic Party is so effed up it stands alone in history as a benchmark for dysfunction. They are no better than MAGA Republicans.

We HAVE to do something different going forward. This ain't working at all. Suggestions welcome please.

Declan's avatar

And I bet that Chuck feels oh so warm and toasty cause his Daddy Trump paid him these complements.

The CR rules become permanent and give more power to Trump. The CR gives an unlimited purse to Trump. He will have expanded rights to tax us, and hoard that money for use in the Executive Branch. A shutdown is temporary. The CR establishes new permanent rules. It strips Congress from terminating a Presidential emergency declaration. That is right. A Trump with no controls. All I can surmise is that perhaps Schumer has been bought off. The fraud is obvious. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/fraud?r=3m1bs

jasdaughter's avatar

My first thought… Schumer has been bought off.

Sandra Tuttle's avatar

Thank you for this information. What do you say about Schumers (and others dem rationale) that a yes vote will at least let the courts remain in the loop to pushback on the WH. The inverse being, a no vote, schumer saying the Trvmp/Mvsk regime can define whatever they deem is the govt and take any action they please with no pushback from ANY entity. Can you explain please?

Carl Selfe's avatar

The shutdown is temporary. The CR hands permanent power. Pain both ways but the CR says tax Americans at will and keep the money for the oligarchs.

Joyce Mason's avatar

How do you know the shutdown will be temporary?

Erin Flanagan's avatar

Incomplete logic. If Trump / Musk are just going to coup the government, then why agree to anything?

Bring the fire. We'll deal with it. We are the resistance, no one is coming to save us.

NanceeM's avatar

There is nothing here that mentions continuing resolution -which is outside the budget process - or a shutdown.

KAO's avatar

Exactly. How does Schumer not see this?

Declan's avatar

Yes...bought off. Ya know what the tell was?? Trump saying Schumer was a 'Palestinian'. An intimidation move...a threat 🤔

Erin Flanagan's avatar

Is being "a" 'Palestinian' a bad thing? I don't think Chuck is threatened as much as he is Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and every other magat sell-out.

PJ Schuster's avatar

It’s not a bad thing to be a Palestinian to most good people. It is a “bad” thing, an insult, when coming out of the bigot’s mouth. We all understand that trump meant it as an insult.

Erin Flanagan's avatar

I know. I was wheedling. Even good intentioned people should listen to what they just said.

PJ Schuster's avatar

This is horrible, there is no other explanation than cowardice or corruption. I’m so angry. I sure wish I was 55 again.

Karen Horwitz's avatar

Those who think Trump and Musk want a shutdown so they’re not giving it to him are fools. If they really wanted a shutdown he’d have his sycophants make it happen. All he has to do is say jump. The fact they’re unified says he doesn’t want it.

A government shutdown would be like a strike that forces change. It might be harder for a while but it is the quickest way to their demise. A shut down government ends a kingdom. We must make him give up that as an option. Taking a stand that demands democracy cannot be delayed.

Jeff Clabault's avatar

A shutdown would have provided a much needed distraction for a reeling Trump/Musk partnership. It also would also have given the MAGA vultures on X and in the RWM an issue to feast on. Schumer is lame and should be replaced by Chris Murphy. That said, ultimately it is the american people who will take Trump down and in this case it made sense to stay out of the way of the Trump self-destruction.

Lori Bukoski's avatar

When I saw Schumer on MSNBC last night and heard him speak about his vote, I just thought to myself:

"FFS! Get out of the way old man.

Every single day, YOU. ARE. HARMING. AMERICA. with your passivity."

Amy Horowitch's avatar

I kept saying call his bluff! But Schumer is a GD coward! Steve is 100% correct.. Schumer is a feckless leader who should be replaced.

Declan's avatar

It's much too late for him to be replaced....how many debilitating defeats can the country absorb before there just isn't anything left to defend....or any elections at all. This emboldens the right wing....one can hear it in Ds talking faster with confidence and bravado....

Erin Flanagan's avatar

From a purely structural standpoint, not many.

Patrick P's avatar

Chuck Shumer has has his Nevil Chamberlain moment in the Senate. Mr. Trump you are now free to dismantle the rest of our government. You will then be in a better position to invade our former allies of Canada and Greenland. How brave you were Mr Schumer for holding out as long as you did. You can return to your assisted living facility and tell all the Alzheimers' patients how you stood up to Trump. They may laugh at first but will forget your treachery. Mr. Schumer you have been in the sun too long and your brain has withered. Please retire from the Senate because you are not a leader, you are an appeaser and Trump played you with a deck of Uno cards in a game of 21.

Maxi's avatar

I’m sick and tired of Schumer and he will not step aside. What an asshole. It’s all because of money. As a senior on disability I’m terrified. I’m losing my house and don’t know if my next check will come in. Hate the democrats who only care about themselves and their money. They are all the same

Erin Flanagan's avatar

Actually, it's maga which brought about your current conditions. I *am not* belittling your plight, which is horrendous, shameful, callous, unfair, and unAmerican. I mean that -- your story enrages me. Rather, I'm encouraging you to point your arrow at the correct target so next time your aim can be true.

Mike Huddleston's avatar

Note to Chuck - FYYFF!!! You're worthless, spineless, and a fucking idiot for doing this.

CE's avatar

Call him and tell him

Erin Flanagan's avatar

You get hold music, if the switchboard picks up at all. I guess that's a good thing.

KAO's avatar

send an email then, he must hear that this is beyond unpopular

CatChex's avatar

Have called a few times today (all members of our household) - get hold music and after 15-30 minutes, the call disconnects.

There’s a form to email his office, tried to send that a few times and it won’t submit.

Meanwhile, can’t figure out what our D Senators may be up to with their votes (they’ve been terrible communicators w their constituents for weeks now).

We’ll keep calling - but it’s feeling like a full time job just trying to get in touch with them.

I think Schumer likely is hearing that this is unpopular but the question is whether he cares?

PJ Schuster's avatar

Go read Sen Chris Murphy’s Substack & leave some comments encouraging him to keep up what he’s doing, push him to step out there more, that we think he would make a good leader & that if he wants to lead a charge; we’re behind him.

CatChex's avatar

I read Senator Murphy's things regularly, thanks and have commented to support his continued work.

I - and I know i'm not alone in this - wish Schumer would just get out of the way. One of our D Senators (yesterday) voted with Schumer, but hey - he's retiring and seems to have checked out already in a number of ways.

Mike Huddleston's avatar

The sad thing is, he proved he doesn't give a shit about anything but appearance. He isn't concerned about capitulating the last remnants of leverage to trump, or a temporary shutdown. He's worried the Ds would have been blamed for the shutdown. What a fucking idiot. He's living in a political world that no longer exists and we're all going to pay for his ignorance and lack of a backbone. 🤬🤯

CatChex's avatar

No arguments here.

Reading a few more pieces on that shitshow yesterday, there’s also more than one comment that he chose Wall Street over the country, any constituents. Like the market hasn’t been collapsing already?

One comment (not mine): “can’t let his day job interfere with his side hustle”

A fucking idiot: yes.

We seem to have a government full of malignant narcissists - some just seem a bit ‘smoother’ than others.

And I’ll stop as I can feel my blood pressure going up again around all of this (of course, it may never come down?) Off to walk a dog….

Timothy D's avatar

WTF Jeffries, Schumer, DNC!!!

Our democracy and entire system is being destroyed by a steamrolling cruel, shoot-from-the-hip, sociopathic, clueless, omnipotent, narcissistic and deranged billionaire and your only plan is to capitulate!!!?!

You are out of touch, and extremely ineffective and should be ashamed!

You are the alleged LEADERSHIP. Sad.

It’s your turn to be fired-deservedly! Unlike the dedicated, loyal federal workers that are being pushed around and treated like the grifters in White House and Congress - Senate. This is horrendous. COWARDLY COMPLICIT MILLIONAIRES & BILLIONAIRES LIVING OFF OF LOBBYISTS. NO ETHICAL OR MORAL LIMITS OR ACCOUNTABILITY. GREEDY GRIFTERS.

The world sees, for the most part, an electorate that is playing by rules that no longer exist.

WHERE ARE YOU?

Safely and comfortably and COWARDLY sitting behind your desk.

NO STANDING UP FOR DEMOCRACY. NO GETTING OUT TO THE STREETS AND LEADING THE PEOPLE.

You are completely irrelevant and incapable of aggressively defending your country.

Thanks for nothing.

Check out our strategy-

CNN reports that in a private meeting, Senator Michael Bennet erupted, accusing Democratic leadership of having "No strategy, no plan, and no message on this spending bill" (direct quote)

😱

😱

Erin Flanagan's avatar

I'm in Cleveland Heights, yet called his Pueblo and Durango offices to thank him. Electeds take special interest in feedback from small dusty places and rarely receive encouragement for doing the right thing.

PJ Schuster's avatar

I have called my fireball Rep Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) to tell her that I have seen at least 4 vids of her giving fantastic, passionate, speeches & fighting for all of us, & that I really appreciate her. We do often forget to compliment them & not just call to complain.

Erin Flanagan's avatar

Excellent. My brother in Minneapolis sent me a video of Rep. Stansbury's "This Is Not Normal" declaration and was furious at the maga who snatched it away. The whole country thanks her!

David Glaser's avatar

Nice job, Chuck. You just voted to prevent Donald from burning down our country so he can burn down our country. It’s a difficult task to accomplish but you figured out how to do it! I’m so glad you lashed out at Donald. He’s so afraid of you and your pathetic democrats now. Fore!

Anthony j. Santo's avatar

Every Democrat who votes to accept this horrendous plan to avoid a shutdown will be as responsible as Magagops for the ensuing pain. I have tried to cut Schumer a little slack but must admit, he is a fool and no leader. I even wonder if he is in Maga's pocket. EVERYONE knows the terrible problems confronting us domestically and in foreign policy are on Trump and his enablers; Democrats who accept this plan will be enablers. Those voting against it will be laying blame where it belongs, on Trump and his gang of selfish idiots.

Marjo Tesselaar's avatar

The Dems have know for weeks about this horrible bill, how many have taken to the streets, organize mass demonstrations, town halls etc. the only one is Bernie.

Just voting against the bill is just lame. Millions of Americans will be hurt with the huge medicaid cuts. Nursing homes will be closed, handicapped people and all low income people will lose their healthcare. Billionaires should be PAYING a 50% tax (like in Europe,) and they will still be stinking rich. This is so cruel and sadistic.

Trump is now officially king, we have all seen him sitting on a golden chair surrounded by gold statues in his last press meeting.

Joyce Mason's avatar

Bernie has the most COURAGE!

Karen Loewenstern's avatar

Agree. Democrats need a united opposition now.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Let’s start a calling campaign to all of our Dem senators & push them to replace Schumer with Chris Murphy.

Sen Chris Murphy has a Substack, we could all comment on his newsletter & encourage him. He is trying to get some fight going.

jasdaughter's avatar

I’m getting tired of games. I won’t cave to a liar. I don’t play games with cheats. I run rough shod over them. Shut it down, regardless of Schumer’s (probably paid for) decision. The republicans don’t pay attention to protocol, the rule of law or checks and balances, so we can just by-pass what Schumer says and SHUT IT DOWN! C’mon Dems!

James Vander Poel's avatar

Liz Warren just e-mailed to say she's a NO, as in NFW. I am grateful for her vote. We do not compromise with fascists, we go to war with them, as our parents did eighty years ago. And Chris Murphy texted to say he's a NO. We need Schumer to step down. He hasn't got the cojones we need now.

PJ Schuster's avatar

Please email or call Schumer & tell him that. Then call any Dem senators you may have & tell them the same.

Sen Chris Murphy is writing on Substack now, perhaps go read his articles & comment to him about being minority leader.

Husaria's avatar

DOGE has “ Big Balls “

The Dems have “ No Balls “ aka Senate minority leader Schumer

It’s time for the Dems to practice the old saying of “ Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. “

Sen. Schumer……it’s time. Get out of the way.
