While the government shutdown is finally over, the lack of Democratic leadership from Chuck Schumer led the party to ultimately give in to GOP demands.
Once Again the Cowardly, Feckless ,Pathetic Dems bow to the GOPs leadership.
The GOP has always wanted to get rid of the ACA ( Obama Care) and now the ass kissing Dems who voted with them has secured its demise.
When the millions of those covered can no longer afford their Health Coverage under the ACA, it will self implode. The Gop wont have to do a thing, except stand by and watch it happen.
The GOP promised to put it to a vote in the future ? Are you Freaking kidding me ? When Donald Dear Leader Trump promises us something , do we believe him ?
Obviously the Dems learned nothing from last weeks blue wave. The next vote
should be to remove Spineless Schumer.
Another champagne party with the President of Argentina this weekend who got
50 billion from Trump, while millions lost their SNAP ?
And the traitor Dems backing it by voting with them ?
I think you are right, Carol. The fix was in. You can try to convince me that Schumer was not in on the deal. His whip (not running in 2026) was a leader in the GOP CR passing. Jeanne Shaheen is also not running. Tim Kaine was safe. What a tangled subterfuge. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/pieces-of-8-shit?r=3m1bs
I agree-how can anyone trust the MAGAs in Congress (and they are now, ALL MAGAs)-they lie almost as much as Trump, they are Trump's puppets! Yes, people are hurting, but won't they hurt even more, if Trump keeps getting his way? Democrats must act as if they are the only political party that is for the improvement of America, and its people; because they are! They can't behave as they used to; they must fight 24/7 to keep America's democracy and for the people, because NO one else will! Like him or not, Gavin Newsom is becoming the leader and the voice of the Democratic Party. I will be hopefully watching how Mamdani governs New York City. I hope that many, if not all of the young candidates that "Leaders We Deserve" are supporting (lead by David Hogg), get voted in, in 2026.
Many Democrats in Congress seem that the "rules" are as they have always been! They are not! I often wonder what kind of world/bubble these people live in, because it doesn't seem that they are living in reality! Do they really know what is going on in the "real" America?
Chuck Schumer is owned by AIPAC. Look to opensecrets.org and see how many millions he has been paid by AIPAC, and other Self-serving PACS. This is treasonous behavior and he and those 8 Corrupt Senators need to go now. Why should they be paid one more cent, why should they be collecting a salary when Americans are suffering.
I don't think that the Shutdown will be ending anytime soon. That would require a corresponding vote in the House, which would require a reopening of the House, which would mean that Johnson would have to swear in Ms. Grijalva, which would likely (although not certainly) lead to a House vote on the resolution to force the release of The Epstein Files, which is the very last thing on Earth that Trump wants. And Johnson does precisely what Trump wants. (That is, unless Johnson gets the vote-switches among Republicans he needs to prevent the "Open the Epstein Files" vote from appending.
What is Johnson's end game? He can't delay swearing Ms Grijalva in indefinitely can he? Does he think he can keep her out of chambers and from voting until midterms? Sooner or later this must end. I can't help but wonder if the Epstein files are being altered somehow for their eventual release.
Unless Dems can ween themselves off corporate money AND win elections, “leadership” will continue to grovel for it. As it stands, unfettered capitalism and democracy are incompatible.
Public funded elections. No outside money. Period. Full stop.
This can only happen if the SCOTUS ruling(s) of Citizens United v. FEC and Mc Cutchenson United v. FEC are repealed.
The PACs and SUPERPACS that have resulted from these SCOTUS rulings are a disaster for democracy and the people’s will. Corporations are NOT people. And, said corporations should not be able to unload unlimited amounts of cash into an election. Unlimited cash in elections / politics only leads to a dark and rotten place. Hello USA 2025. Grift, cheating, incompetence and malfeasance rein supreme.
The fix. Simple, but not easily done.
1 ) Repeal SCOTUS rulings of Citizens United and Mc Cutchenson United V. FEC
2 ) Public fund all elections. Fixed amounts of cash for politicos that is taxpayer managed and funded. No outside money. Make any outside cash contributions a felony.
3 ) Get rid of Tuesday* voting. Make election day a national holiday. Make it a Monday or Friday holiday.
* We vote on Tuesday because of the 18th century. In the early days of the American Republic only land owning men could vote. On Sunday said land owner went to church. After church he got his horse ready for a two day ride. Monday morning he set off to the polls. Arriving at the polls on Tuesday he voted and then returned home.
Why are we still doing ( voting on Tuesday ) this?
What are the Democrats thinking? “This, in the end, is the calculation the defecting Senate Democrats are making: They don’t think a longer shutdown will cause Trump to cave. They just think it will cause more damage.”
Last night’s vote was a mistake. But we need to now focus on what comes next, use these next few months to refocus the national discourse on the harms their agenda is doing to the country, and getting as much of our agenda passed as possible.
What was the point of this shutdown again?
Dick Durbin John Fetterman Maggie Hassan Tim Kaine Jacky Rosen Jeanne Shaheen Angus King (I)
Steve-I agree with everything you said about Schumer and Jefferies-so how do we get them out? We know how bad it is, how do we get them fired? Put out a video on that strategy. We need more information than all the real journalists who tell us how bad it is, we need solutions for now. I know I need to vote but there needs to be more. I think we need to shut down the whole country like the Poles did.
While a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, the problem with the Dems is that it is not a chain but a wheel, and the linchpin, Schumer, is broken and was unable to hold the spokes together.
Our Minority "Leader" is a disaster of historic proportions.
just gutted over this turn coat of events. i renounce my democratic registration and will never ever contribute to the clowncar mainstream dems and dnc. hmmn...who was pulling the levers behind the scenes...aipac spent over $100M during '24 election cycle
Schumer wanted to end this whole thing sooner. But he knows the optics if he leads this again.
So he convinced a bunch of old Dems to do his bidding for him.
I am so sick of the political crap in this country. I knew the Republicans were rotten to the core, but these Democrats just make me want to leave here more.
They don't deserve my tax dollars to pay for their healtcare and their designer suits and jewelry.
I'd like all of the to have to go to a food bank for their groceries.
I'd like them to pay for their own healtcare, I pay for mine.
I agree 100% that Schumer must go. I would even go farther and say that Jeffries should step down too. If we had a leader in the Senate, like Nancy Pelosi, they would never bend down to Trump, Johnson, and MAGA! The Dems desperately need strong leaders to run the Senate and the House, especially in the times we are in. Actually, if they had a strong leader in the Senate, along with Pelosi in the House, when Trump went down those escalators, we probably wouldn't be in the place that we are in now!
Back to Schumer: how do you get rid of him? I don't live in New York, so I can't vote him out, I have made my opinion known to the DNC, hundreds, thousands of times. I have even emailed Schumer himself, and told him directly to step down as leader of the Senate; I have even told him to retire, that he is old, and that he is boring! When I email other Democrats in the Senate, I always add that Schumer must go, that we need younger, more energetic leaders, to lead! What else can a regular citizen do? Term/age limits would help this situation. I love and will always respect Nancy Pelosi, but waiting until you're 85 to retire? Thank God, she was still able to do her duty, but look at the others who lingered way too long, on both sides of the aisle! I'm afraid that we are stuck with Schemer until he is either ready to let go, or he dies!
I immediately emailed my Senators and requested they get Minority Leader Schumer to step down. His time was up a while back. We don't have time to waste with his weak leadership. He needs to go and go quickly.
I woke up this morning feeling betrayed by the 8 Senators that crossed over to vote for cloture. However, I just listened to Chuck Todd who argued that it was the right decision, particularly in light of the recent election victories (I campaigned actively for Mikie Sherrill), and makes those Dems look like "the adults in the room". And let's face it, most voters won't be watching the internecine battles within the Democratic Party - and they won't remember the names of the defectors either. Happy to be convinced otherwise.
But if the Democrats are to continue to build on their election successes, they have to be smarter about how they negotiate the next battles in Congress. I totally agree that Chuck Schumer should go - he is well past his best years. No shame in stepping down like Nancy Pelosi did during the last 2 years and again last week. It will be important for effective communicators to tell the electorate who we are and what we stand for! And it's not caving in!
Janet, I respectfully disagree. There is ZRO value in being the “adults in the room”. Years and years and years of being the adults in the room has made us what we are LOSERS.
You haven't provided an argument. Convince me that Dems can't proceed now to argue that Trump is wreaking havoc on the lives of citizens, while at the same time grifting in crypto, pulling healthcare and SNAP, destroying the East Wing for a over the top ballroom, flouting the rule of law, I could go on. Do you really think that nuking the filibuster or holding out for a prospect of the GOP caving would have been worth it? The GOP will now at least have to vote in both Senate and House on the ACA subsidies. The Dems will make hay out of that to those paying attention which will include a lot of people whose healthcare is affected or like me, whose families' healthcare is affected. That's a big group!
Once Again the Cowardly, Feckless ,Pathetic Dems bow to the GOPs leadership.

PATHETIC AND SICKENING !
Some people never learn. However , WE will remember this. Schumer needs to step aside

No doubt about it Carol ! He doesnt have the fortitude or balls to fight the GOP who will do 'Anything' to get their way.

I am betting a deal was made not to open the Epstein files

We also need to get rid of John Fetterman, a MEGA in sheep's clothing-I mean in sweatshirts! What a disappointment he turned out to be!
Steve-I agree with everything you said about Schumer and Jefferies-so how do we get them out? We know how bad it is, how do we get them fired? Put out a video on that strategy. If they are up for re-election from their state, then get someone to run against them.
If not, then start a recall petition to get them out of office.
Yes! A recall!!!!. Ya better believe the right wing would do that and not just wring their hands!!
Absolutely!💯
Truthfully, Nancy Pelosi would have whipped this into place, She was a master at controlling the votes in the party!

Trump is not going to cave
Somebody needs to primary him from a populist platform. He is all in on the hedge fund guys.
Schumer needs to go NOW.

We have been having that argument forever. The same thing during the whole of Trump’s first term.
