Alex Pretti’s murderer shot him in the back, at point blank range, as he knelt. And yet, our cowboy hat sporting secretary of DHS, Kristi Noem, has looked America in the face and lied that Alex’ killing was righteous. This damnable lie insults Alex, his family and his friends. Trump’s damnable lying, his stock in trade, makes a mockery of the America in which we all believed, perhaps not that long ago. ICE are cowards, back shootin’ cowards. The worst of the worst, except for those who see their villainy and do nothing to stop them…
I grew up in the 1960s and even through the turmoil of the war and Kent State, and later Watergate, I never would have believed I would see masked Brown Shirts on our streets, with the unholy right to come into our HOMES without a warrant. Are we turning to Germany of the 1930s? Argentina in 1970s? Chile too, courtesy of “the Chicago School” and Milton Freeman’s Shock Doctrine economics which placed another dictator, General Pinochet in power? I do not recognize my country.
So far, two MURDERS have been committed in Minnesota by Federal Agents. MURDER is a crime. The MURDERERS must be held to account. The Nazi’s in Germany committed murders. THE ONLY difference between the murders by the Nazi’s and the murders committed by Federal Agents in Minnesota, all of which were committed in plain sight, is that the Nazi’s did not lie about the murders they committed. Trump, Miller, Bondi, Noem, Blanche, Patel are all lying about the murders that were committed.
Autocracies don't rise when citizens collectively trust and respect their democratic government. It's imperative that we address the cause of the decline in trust and respect of our government.
Forty years ago, the top 10% of Americans received one-third of all income in the US, today they receive one-half. The 90% fell from two-thirds to one-half of all US income.
Why was that shift necessary? What will stop it from increasing further? Why wouldn't those in the 90%, particularly those in the lower 50% feel unseen, unappreciated, and left out?
Politicians rely on the top 10% to fund their careers and direct their policies, which continue to favor the top 10%. For forty years they have been telling the 90% to trust them, they will make things better, and have not.
We can do better if we decide we must do better to save our free market economy and democracy. Citizen guardrails are essential. Free and fair markets and democracies require free and fair sharing of information. Information is influence, influence is income.
An independent Informed Citizens Commission should be a parallel goal with overcome the current and dire threat of authoritarianism to improve the resistance and to improve the next phase of America's destiny.
An independent Informed Citizens Commission would have as its purpose to create:
- A Government that Represents Everyone
- An Economy that Benefits Everyone
- A Society that Respects Everyone
It would have as its strategy to ensure:
- Informed Voters for Qualified and Trustworthy Leaders
- Informed Employees for a Fair and Efficient Economy
- Informed Citizens for Respect of the Views of Others
A free and fair market is an oxymoron. No such thing can ever exist in a zero-sum society. Maybe all commerce is employee/consumer owned, and non-profit, and 100% responsible for one-to-one, real time mitigation of every destructive act generated to produce any commodity or service. That is citizen democracy in an open society.

I joined thousands of marchers in Chicago yesterday in the freezing cold and snow. We the people were possessed with courage, fury, and determination. The spirit of 1776 is being aroused once again and yet it is being unreported and condescended to. But it is nevertheless there and when you join with your fellow patriots on the streets for peaceful protest, you too will feel it.

Those killers are still on the streets along with those who are willing and able but just haven't done it yet. I live in a university town. Two hundred people showed up for a candlelight vigil on short notice last night. I saw exactly ONE college age student, and two small children whose parents or grandparents had brought them along. I’m 75, so definitely, liberty or death resonates with me. But our younger people? Doesn’t seem to. We did get quite a number of honks. I swear my next sign is going to say, “DON’T HONK AT US. Get out of your fucking car and stand with us!”
I just finished reading a survey that found many young people (under 25) approved of ICE and its evil tactics. I’m 67 and remember the 60s too well, and I’ve traveled, and read; It’s impossible for me to see anything this criminal Administration as positive.
Are young people too far removed from many of the struggles of yesterday, and the horrors of WW2? As the survivors of that war are almost all gone, it’s our duty to somehow show the young what Fascism does. Perhaps they see the fake toughness and bullying of the president as cool. I don’t get it.
