Poison has filled Lindsey’s empty spaces
PLUS: Part 2 of my interview with Ken Harbaugh about The Save America Movement ad campaign
If I know anything about Lindsey Graham, it’s that he’s a compromised, closeted gay man with a very serious drinking problem who’s on tilt for Trump.
Turns out, the rest of the world now knows all of that, too.
— Dean Blundell in an article from February 18, 2026
I do know Lindsey Graham.
In fact, I know him better than anybody who covers him, writes about him, has run against him, and serves with him in the US Senate.
Presidential campaigns are close-quarter affairs. I logged a million miles in a year, so to speak, sitting beside Lindsey Graham on buses, planes, hotel suites, breakfast buffers and hotel bars late into the night.
Let me share a story.
I was walking alone with John McCain, and he said to me, “We have to talk about Lindsey later.”
Anyone who knows me appreciates that “later” triggers a combination of pessimism, fatalism and anxiety.
“Jesus Christ, what the f*ck did he do now?” was my response.
McCain responded, “Nothing, at least that I know of. It’s not that. It’s something else.”
The “something else” turned out to be that Lindsey Graham was leading a secret life.
When I went to see McCain in his hotel suite, he sat down across from me and fidgeted a bit. His eyes glanced about, and he stuttered as he tried to get the conversation going. He was 72 and I was 37.
“Lindsey’s gay.”
“No shit, sir!” I paused for a second, and asked, “Are you guys dating?”
His eyes narrowed. I could tell that instantly he regretted opening the conversation, so I straightened up.
“No one cares” is what I told him. “It may be an issue in South Carolina for him, but it won’t matter in the presidential campaign.”
John looked at me and said, “I’m not worried about the politics. I’m worried about my friend.”
John McCain’s main concerns were about the amount of pills (Ambien) that Lindsey was taking at night, how much he was drinking, and the incredible risks that he strongly suspected he was taking sexually that McCain believed could destroy his career and life.
McCain pointed out that Lindsey had nothing besides his Senate seat. It was his whole life. There was nothing else.
We talked for a while about secrets, and the cancer of carrying them. I told McCain that I thought this would all end in disaster for Lindsey if what he was saying was accurate.
I asked him what he wanted me to do.
“I guess nothing” was his answer.
Lindsey Graham was John McCain’s sidekick. He made John laugh. He made everyone laugh, but there is nothing to laugh at anymore.
His secrets and neediness have turned very dark. They have destroyed him from the inside out.
Poison has filled Lindsey’s empty spaces.
His entire life is a lie. Every single minute of every hour of every day.
It is a personal tragedy, but it is more than that.
The cancer inside of him has leeched out, and it spilled all over the floor in Munich.
Lindsey Graham is obviously impaired in this Politico interview:
The interview occurred immediately after Graham disgraced himself in a meeting with the cool as a cucumber Danish Prime Mette Frederiksen, who did not lose her composure or dignity when confronted by an unhinged American bully who called her
”little lady.”
If John McCain had seen the performance he would have slapped Lindsey Graham across his mouth.
I’m not joking.
John McCain took Lindsey Graham around the world trying to teach the parochial cherub whom he called a friend valuable lessons about liberty, the eternal threats faced by freedom, and the indispensable role of the United States in keeping the peace.
What Lindsey Graham has become is monstrous.
His misconduct is a national embarrassment and simply grotesque.
Senator Elissa Slotkin, who walked out of the meeting, must share the details of what occurred behind closed doors.
Lindsey Graham is owed no courtesy or respect. The time for secrets is well past.
There are no words to describe the MAGA rot. It is a national cancer.
Ponder these three stories:
This is Congressman Randy Fine, who is facing censure and calls for his resignation for saying this:
Congressman Tony Gonzales, who has six children, had an affair with a 35-year-old staffer, who lit herself on fire in her backyard when it ended.
This is Lindsey Graham threatening to invade the Kingdom of Denmark:
A few years back I answered the question of what had happened to Lindsey Graham in a Rolling Stone interview.
Here it is:
Lindsey Graham is up for reelection in November, but is ahead by only 2 points.
He can be beaten.
Lindsey will have nothing when he loses his Senate seat because Lindsey Graham is nothing without it.
He is a disease on our politics.
He is an embarrassment to the US Senate and a misery on the United States.
John McCain said Lindsey Graham might die if he wasn’t in the Senate.
Think about that.
Lindsey Graham is a very hollow man.
He is a treacherous man.
He is a liar.
He is a lonely narcissist who can’t stand to look at his face in the mirror because there is nothing staring back.
Shame on him.
I want to thank everyone for the beautiful messages received about Tucker’s passing. I was truly overwhelmed by such kindness.
Scrolling through family photos yesterday, we found two more that show Tucker doing some of the things he loved best: swimming and chasing balls in the snow (here with Sophie):
Part 2: The Save America Movement’s offense against Trump and MAGA
In the second part of my interview with Ken of The Ken Harbaugh Show, we discuss The Save America Movement’s campaign against MAGA enablers — the billionaires and institutions sustaining the system — and what it will take to take down Trump and MAGA:

Think how Graham must secretly loathe the party that keeps him in the closet. What a miserable existence. And for what? In the end, so many of these people will be ruined anyway. Their families forever tarnished with their legacy.
To be fair, at least Lindsey responds to all messages sent to his government account, if only in a form letter sent by staff. (Tim Scott ignores EVERYTHING.)
But I WILL be voting (if I'm able, after voting since 1976), and NOT for MAGA.
