This afternoon, Mitch McConnell announced that he was stepping down as Senate minority leader at the end of his term. Below is my reaction to the news as discussed on Scripps News. I am also re-sharing an essay I wrote in August 2023 about the legacy of the man, entitled “Mitch McConnell: a small man when America needed a giant.”

Moscow Mitch needed to leave when Harry Reid retired. He personally ruined SCOTUS with his bullshit antics screwing Obama with the Garland nomination and cramming through the Handmaid when RBG passed away.
F him
He had the power to stop Trump from ever setting foot in the WH again if he had advocated for his impeachment conviction on February 13, 2021. The vote was 10 short in the Senate, a margin which he could have overwhelmed. He ripped apart Trump for his role in Jan. 6, essentially pointed the blame at him... but instead kicked the can down the road pointing to the criminal justice system backstop. Not the same though, as he of course knew. What did this cowardice get him? A few more years of lame service is the answer, an ego booster. He could have been an historical hero, instead he goes down amongst the worst cowards this country has ever mistakenly trusted. Damn him, and he knows it. Shame. You were the gatekeeper that could have kept this dementor from a second run at taking over this country. Damn you. Damn you. Your lack of courage may be consequential to humanity.
