Matthew Dowd spoke the truth. MSNBC is one of the few media sources we can depend on for truth. He should not be punished by this network for speaking truthfully. This is a stain on MSNBC.

The hosts and staff of MSNBC need to speak out about their boss's action and demand a retraction and bring Matthew Dowd back on board Admin's make mistakes It's time for the correction of that mistake

Constance: I love MSNBC for Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Lawrence O-Donnell, Ari Melcher, Velshi, Jen, Alex and more. But it falters: They fired Mehdi Hassan and Joy Reid as anchors. Now it's analyzer Matthew Dowd for his telling the truth as he saw it on the politics of Kirk. And it was the truth. It is a stain on MSNBC , as you said, and oh my! when we need them most.

Thank you. Matthew Dowd is stellar. Rebecca Kutler is not.

Yep. I’m so sick of the left being such p$&&y’s! Like WTF!?!?!?!

The alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, comes from a Republican family, though Tyler is not registered to any party. His father is a retired sheriff in Washington County, Utah. There are photos of Tyler and his family with guns. Tyler Robinson dressed as Donald Trump for Halloween: a devout supporter, it would seem. Could it be that Charlie Kirk calling for the release of the Epstein files caused a problem?

Grifting to turn grief into grievance, manipulating the many’s mourning, Donald Trump solicits rage that he can exploit for violence—before there is any proof the left contributed to the shooting. That is irresponsible leadership from Trump and Republican members in Congress. Gross irresponsibility of this magnitude is criminal malfeasance.

It is Trump who constantly and vociferously demonizes the left with his rhetoric. He does not seek to quench the Nation’s anger, he seeks to inflame any given moment, stoking the fire well before investigation uncovers any facts at all. It is he and Kirk that traded in vile, demonizing rhetoric designed to incite violence.

These two monetized their hostility like the money changers they are. They gaslighted the rest of us whenever a fire broke out, and they simultaneously fanned those flames while pouring gasoline on the fire.

History dictates that the shooter will be a Republican supporter. Have you paid attention at all to the political and racist violence of last decade? If so, you know the party of violence. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/bilious-hate-mongering?r=3m1bs

Matthew Dowd simply explained what the word karma means.

I am sick of MSNBC. I'm down to Nicolle, Ari, Lawrence and the Weeknight. Matthew Dowd is a voice of reason, telling facts and he gets fired? I truly believe Charlie Kirk's death is related to the Epstein files, not just the hate he spewed. Most of the people I know never heard of him or didn't any attention to his KKK hate speeches. We know this too shall pass, however in the meantime we need to be aware. Shame on MSNBC for denying freedom of speech by an expert. If they accept Kirk's hate speech, they should accept a critique of that speech. We all need to be careful of the hateful words we speak, hate begets hate! What goes around comes around, karma, however you want to say it. Get a backbone MSNBC and uphold the 1st Amendment or lose your entire network.

They seem to be on the same slippery slope of caving to the “the left must be better than the right.” crap. Fox Entertainment has said AWFUL horrible things about the left that have no basis in truth. They give air time to people who lie about current issues. They gave us Hegseth and Pirro. People who are playing an active role in the destruction of our democracy. But we have to take the high road?!??! Nah, fuck that shit.

I’m down to the same people with Chris Hayes thrown in sometimes. Matthew Dowd spoke the truth about a right wing fascist, who may have politely engaged his audience as part of his act, words have power as we all know, he used his to bring harm with a smile.

There are a huge amount of people in this country across the spectrum who knew who knew who Charlie Kirk was

I haven't had a television in many years so I don't watch any of the non-stop nonsense In 2016 I visited my aunt and uncle in Michigan Every morning they watched the Joe show. I glanced at it several times They seemed to be talking the same things every day

I asked my aunt if that was true She said yes I asked why they continue to watch it

Steve, THANK YOU FOR THIS. I was furious when I heard Matthew Dowd was fired for the honest comment he made! He addressed the corrosive, intensifying danger of this speech radicalizing young people, especially young men. Many democratic countries have some laws regulating hate speech, we need it too. Thank you too for your forthright approach about WHO Charlie Kirk was, yes, a White Nationalist, Christian Nationalist, racist, horrible bigot and his goal was to turn a whole generation into his ilk. He didn't deserve to lose his life, BUT, his destructive voice in our country is not a loss

Joe and Mika are hypocritical ' ass kissing sell outs", who have no backbone are clearly afraid of Trumps retribution !

I stopped watching them entirely since they visited Trump at Mara Largo several months ago.

Now they want to canonize Charlie Kirk and demonize people like Dowd who simply are telling the truth about him and his divisive polarizing, hateful teachings ?

As so many many many times before the MAGA crowd and their ( sociopath and malignant narcissist ) Leader Trump condemn the very exact thing that they are they themselves Guity of !

The GOP is notorious for doing that ! Its their MO.

Matthew Dowd should be reinstated IMMEDIATELY!

This is such an important post Steve, thank you for putting so much into it, for continuing to brush aside the gaslighting, the outright lies, the treachery.

While I have a good mind, some clarity and the occasional wisdom of a septuagenarian, if it were not for your daily Warnings, if it were not for your clarity and patriotic passion, I would not have a clear handle on what the hell is happening to our republic.

So thank you, every day I thank YOU and my core Substack writers HCRichardson, Jim Acosta, Joyce Vance, Marc Elias, Ruth Ben-Ghiat, Robert Hubble, CWood CWater, Bishop Barber, Paul Krugman… and now Matthew Dowd.

Thank you.

Check out Jeff Tiedrich. He's profane and funny as hell. Every Saturday, along with his daily musings, he publishes "the stupidest things that happened this week". He's political and very entertaining.

Amen, Steve. I will sorely miss Matthew Dowd's voice on MSNBC, and I will write to MSNBC and let them know I am upset about his firing. I will follow him here.

I don’t agree with the idea Charlie Kirk would’ve become “better” had he lived. He was a twisted bastard. Hitler too, was a twisted bastard that didn’t believe in equality .

Would he have become better had he lived ? Ha . Sorry, no tears for Charlie. If you need to ever find me in the future , go to trump’s grave. I’ll be the guy with a few gallons of water taking my time pissing on it repeatedly.

Dick Montagne's avatar

You’ll be the guy standing next to a whole crowd of other guys.

Excellent Substack today! I’m done watching Joe Scarborough! He is like all those cowards in Congress. Afraid of losing their jobs so they follow the orders of the convict President !

Dick Montagne's avatar

I stopped watching him years ago, he’s way too full of himself. I get it that it’s his show, but 4 hours of it, maybe they figure that people only watch an hour and then are gone. That’s where I am, gone!

Using The Angry Mob Mentality For Change

Anger is double edged sword It can be destructive which gives this emotion a bad rap But it can be constructive when used in way to respond to threat WE the People are under a Nazi takeover threat and WE are angry at what is transpiring Our only hope is that the Democratic Party can meet the moment with anger and continue to not play by the rules and civility to quash the Nazis in what can only be termed a political civil war

With that said WE the People are behind the Democrats no matter how bad we may think their policies are because they stand between the democratic republic and a Russian dictatorship And I think that there is enough public animosity about this Nazi takeover that a Congressional mandate will become apparent in the 2026 midterms

So what does a Democratic platform look like? It better be darn close to what that anger that brought about the Democratic election results No more civility No more compromise No more reaching across the aisle It should look like a knockdown drag out fight and no taking prisioners This should include election reform to include mandatory mail in voting in every state and removal of gerrymandering , SCOTUS expansion, abortion rights and women’s reproductive health initiatives, end Citizens United and big money in politics, AND revocation of tax relief for billionaires and corporations

I am so frustrated with the media - corporate and otherwise. They are pretending Kirk was killed for exercising his first amendment rights. Just speaking his mind when he was killed. Wrong.

There is a huge difference between what Kirk was doing and protected speech. He was harrassing, intimidating, insulting and encouraging the dehumanizing innocent people. We don't need or want to protect that kind of speech.

Preaching hate is not political debate. Perhaps it's time for some reasonable time, place and manner restrictions on hate speech. No, you can't yell fire in a crowded theater. Kirk's murder is indeed a sad day for our nation for so many reasons. But let's not get it twisted, When one lives by the sword one may die by the sword as well.

I feel the same way. I personally question if any of these people, Tucker Carlson, Charlie Kirk, Jesse Watters et al really believe what they say or are just provocateurs who have found a gullible audience who buys their bullshit? I'm old. And cynical. As a woman, I find it incredulous that anyone would marry these jerks.🤷🏻‍♀️

Sorry, all out of fucks for Charlie. One less Republican/MAGA/Nazi.

Emily Rader's avatar

Steve, wondering if you wouldn't include Rachel Maddow among the impregnable Gibraltars of integrity at MSNBC.

Friedrike Merck's avatar

She’s too self involved. Here we are in the worst crisis of our great country since the civil war, and she decides it’s a really good time to stop covering the news so that she can promote her latest book. Lawrence O’Donnell is a real hero to me.

Elaine Seal's avatar

Agree about Lawrence, he's the best. Have never liked Rachel, her dramatic readings at the beginning of her show, turn me off🤷🏻‍♀️

Emily Rader's avatar

I also like Chris Hayes.

Domenic J Serrone's avatar

I agree she has become too big for her britches- as my nana would say.

She’s number 1. Then Lawrence Nicole Ari snd Matt

Sadly , I doubt it was an accident . See if he says so .

Thank you for standing for the truth and for fighting for democracy. My husband and I rely on you and also recognize Nicole Wallace and Lawrence O’Donnell are the last voices that can be trusted on mass media. Even my beloved New York Times has weakened and forget the weak Washington Post!
