When I was deployed in Iraq, a small good of Special Ops guys were on the helicopters with all of us medical people...and when we landed, they just disappeared. They were tough. They were masculine....and not show boats. vance and trump are showboats...empty vessels full of hot air.

I’ve been told by friends and family that were in the military that when trying out for selection in special ops the instructors will say that the most bombastic gung ho types are the first to wash out.

They will also tell you that the personnel who don’t complain, make a fuss, gloat over their times, scores and skills are usually the ones that make it. That is indeed the same soft spoken and almost timid person that gets shot out of a submarine tube, swims 15 miles to shore, rescues hostages and kills bad guys. When asked about their accomplishment they say, “ Someone had to do it. I guess it was my turn. "

So, as you posted I must disagree that the orange imbecile and Just Dumb Vance are full of hot air. Sorry but they’re full of shit. ; )

My dad wasn’t a special forces guy. But, he was a Greatest Generation WWII US Coast Guard guy.

He talked about loudmouths all the time when I was growing up. He hated showboaters and show offs. He also knew they were / are weak. My dad was never one to tout his accomplishments from a megaphone. He ran his business took care of his family and did his duty. After he died we were going through his stuff and we found $8000.00 in one of his suits. No one in my family had any idea about this. We started checking everything he had at that point. My guess is that money was my dad’s plan “ B “ for his family if it all went to shit. He was a great depression era kid after all.

Sad isn’t it that enough voters in Ohio thought J.D. Vance would make a better Senator than Tim Ryan. And I don’t buy the story that Mitch McConnell outmaneuvered Chuck Schumer and thus won the thing for Vance. I’m tired of excuses for people who vote like morons.

Ohio is past lean right and Conservative right unfortunately I am not even sure, moving forward, true Conservatives like DeWine, Kasich, Taft, etc could even get elected

Two straight Ohio House speakers convicted of major bribery and sent to jail Yet Republicans still maintain total control

The first-term congressman from my district was a Navy seal. In the state legislature he had a reputation for stupidity. He ousted another MAGAt for insufficient loyalty to the orange idol. He is totally ambitious, and of course a loud "Christian" who doesn't dare meet with voters and boasts constantly on social media that he does. He voted to deprive many of this rural district's people of Medicaid. When this district's largest employer was attacked by the regime he did nothing. I sincerely hope the legislature can redraw the district so we can chuck this chipmunk out.

This hits the nail on the head, "cruelty is not courage." Being cruel, part of the Trump - Vance brand is so thin, character runs deep, anchored to a core set or values that include many qualities, one of which would be empathy, polar opposite of cruelty.

People, please. This is the problem with the liberal class. The use of the word “pig” as a derogatory comment is pretty mild. I was born Jewish, never practiced and considered myself an atheist as far back as elementary school. Do you know how many posts I read that reference Christian principals and Jesus in particular? I don’t opt out of those writers’ posts for that. I read it, take what’s important from it and move on. Do I wish writers would refer less often to Jesus/Christianity as a test of morality? Sure. But that doesn’t mean they have nothing valid to say. These purity tests have got to stop. Peter Wood or anyone else, if you want to opt out, opt out. Of course that’s your choice. But seriously, over the word “pig”. Just wow.

Vance is in the pocket of the Corporations and Billionaires, all the rest of what he says is just to keep his base and the rest distracted as he steals everyone blind and stuffs his pockets with loot just like his buddy Trump and the rest of the grifters. He wants to get in on the new Gilded Age before it comes crashing down, as people wise up to being ripped off by these grifters, con men, liars, thieves, rip off artists.... Peter, Pigs are incredibly intelligent animals, who like all other mammals, bond with their offspring. The impossibly cruel methods used to "produce" piglets, giving them unlimited access to the sow's nipples (she is held down on her side in a metal frame so that piglets can nurse as long as they want, no matter how sore and bloody the nipples become) and bringing them to slaughter weight in six months are typical of our factory "farms."

I tried for decades to make people aware of the monstrous pain and environmental damage caused by eating meat from our factory farms, but the great majority manage to put it out of their minds and continue as omnivores. Rice and beans, tofu and tempeh are not for them.

This is sad. However, I will not end my alliance with other progressive and anti-MAGA causes, including "The Warning," because of the vegan issue. I simply eat my vegan diet and hope that my excellent health at 81 years of age influences others. I never bring the topic up, but will always discuss what I eat and why if asked.

Please reconsider dropping out of these important discussions.

The horrific cruelty involved in eating meat seems to somehow escape so many people who otherwise are concerned about all sorts of farm. I think it's mostly either unawareness or denial, since most of the people I know would not personally wish to inflict such abuse on any animal. I believe someday humanity will look back on the days when billions of animals were killed every day so people could eat their flesh will seem truly as barbaric as it really is.

The eating of early maturing marine fish, including anadromous Pacific Salmon, on their return to their historic spawning grounds before they died has been ongoing for thousands of years. In the terminal rivers where they return they are either caught and eaten by humans or by wild animals, die of injuries or they spawn and die soon after spawning.

Elizabeth M--I do not believe society will ever forego eating meat. Some may go to the option of vegetables with textures and flavors resembling meat. The questions seem to arise from legitimate concerns over the level of cruelty involved, as well as the availability of water and suitable land resources which in many cases must compete unfavorably with industrial and urban sprawl.

Thank you Anthony, for your compassion and your reply. Yes, pigs are incredibly intelligent. They are as smart as (if not smarter) than dogs. They are also clean and only use mud to soothe their sensitive skin.

I appreciate people who can successfully adopt a vegan life. However, I am not vegan, basically because I choose to obtain most of my essential amino acids from what I consider the best natural protein source, wild caught early maturing ocean reared fish, such as Pacific Salmon, sardines and oysters.

Otherwise, I also go vegan in respect to choosing those vegetables and fruits which are purported to be healthy choices. I avoid chard and other vegetables which are reported to contain harmful substances, whether natural or not, many of those coming from Industrial sized farms on properties with a questionable history of varied practices.

I am a retired fisheries biologist who has worked on the study, population assessments, and harvest management of Salmon Fisheries along the Pacific northwest coast. I believe it is imperative for our society to maintain support for the conduct of fisheries to continue in a sustainable manner. I believe it is easier to determine the course of the world's health through the conduct and health of its fisheries around the world than by any measurement of terrestrial food production.

I think just about everyone understands that the word pig is being used an allegory rather than intended in any other manner. I recall a story that was told when I was much younger. It goes something like this, there was a drunkard who was walking down a street late one evening, when he fell down and passed out next to the curb, near where a pig resting. A married couple walking by noticed this scene with the lady saying you can always judge someone by the company they keep, whereby the pig got up and slowly walked away.

I can't say that the word *pig* gets me wrapped around the axle at all, seeing as I was raised on an Iowa pig farm. Pigs are smart and ok and usually more so than many people I have known. And no actual pig gives a flying fuck how anyone uses the word.

The point is I like what Steve says and how he says it. What TFG says and does is far, far worse. And look at how TFG uses the word *piggy*.

Yes Steve, the moral compass, or better still, the authentic voice of personal empathy learned from within ones own psyche, is fast tracking to the pit of hell, the bottom of the Inferno. A dirth of true masculinity is predictable. The male role has been commercialized for many decades by the CEO class of pretenders.

The gym has taken the place of the workplace discipline and knowledge that ordinary men of worth still labor within, who then go home to play with the kids, hug the wife, take out the trash, and fix at least one thing before settling down in exhaustion with their spouse to seek a little solace from each other Now pumping iron and profiling for babes is vogue, cuz to get laid and acquire hot arm candy is THE thing, the true dehumanization of females.

The military ethos of my dad's generation is gone. Since WW2, the military role is for policing the world to keep 'murkan corporate hegemony in strict control Korea, Nam, Grenada, Panama, Iraq, Iraq/Afgha, Somalia, Lebanon, et. al. are/were not wars, but invasions, like Venezuela will soon become. Grifts to steal wealth using military weapons and a few deaths in the trenches. So the military men, still fit and well trained, have discovered they are just pawns and stooges and trash collectors and props for corporate/politico pandering to the citizen audience of Stockholm Syndrome prisoners.

this veep is just another costume, a hollow boy that resembles the ilk of TFG, whose pseudo masculinity consisted of Epstein snark and prurient debauchery, just another cowardice of violence against the unwilling and vulnerable. To sell out wife and kids for bluster is the norm now, and this grotesque prating only reinforces it for male misogyny that Fuentes cosplays as a virgin purist.

This is leadership these days. Anyone had Enough of this fetid stench yet?
