This piece is calling out a basic collapse of media standards. When news outlets start repeating names and labels that have no legal existence, they stop reporting reality and start amplifying someone else’s script. That isn’t journalism. It’s surrender.

The question isn’t whether the names are silly. It’s why major institutions are treating unofficial language as if it carries the force of law. That signals fear, confusion, or a willingness to trade accuracy for access.

If the press can’t hold the line on something as simple as what an institution is actually called, it raises a bigger issue. How can it hold the line on anything that matters more?

That’s the real point.

And you are spot on, it’s all a farce…the problem is once We see the farce how do we break out?

It’s depressing and feels nihilistic.

I'll believe Dupoukil when I hear him cover this news:

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s use of the Quran at his swearing-in showed the “enemy is inside the gates,” according to Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. Tuberville ignited a fresh political firestorm Wednesday morning after posting the warning on X, alongside a screenshot of a New York Times report detailing Mamdani’s decision to place his hand on Islam’s sacred text while taking the oath of office. https://www.newsmax.com/us/tommy-tuberville-nyc-mayor/2026/01/01/id/1240404/?ns_mail_uid=bd82492a-1918-44c8-a5bf-2dafa9b48ccb&ns_mail_job=DM897740

He must also include this information:

"...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States" -- United States Constitution, Article VI

Of course Mamdani would use the Quran, it is his religion's "bible"! What I objected with, but the MSM did not press upon, was the fact that trump didn't have his hand on the Bible, while sighting the Oath of Office. Think what would happen if Biden, or Obama didn't have their hand on the Bible! Did that act, that trump did do, tell the American people, "to hell with America and its people, to hell with the rule of law-I am in charge, period!"?

Mamdani spent yesterday, actually going into apartments, to see for himself, the conditions they are in. Then, he signed executive orders! I will be watching Mamdani carefully; if he can improve NYC, then maybe he can also improve Washington DC! I guess I am a social Democrat, because I've always loved Sanders, and now I like Mamdani! AND, I don't even live on the east coast!

Sasly, this carefully-worded statement is a true tell of how CBS and other MSM outlets "bend the knee" ....

"Sometimes they want to talk to me about our coverage of NAFTA or the Iraq War. Other times, it’s about Hillary Clinton’s emails or Russiagate. Or more recently, COVID lockdowns, Hunter Biden’s laptop or the president’s fitness for office."

It covers every MAGA attack of libs and every accusation of Trump that they classify as unjust.

Why is there no mention of what is really impacting our great country today, i.e. troops in our cities, brutal ICE roundups, Epstein, Jan6, tariffs, ACA Lapse, East Wing, Venezuela, DOGE, Affordability.... ????

IMHO, this statement does nothing to reinvigorate trust in modern media.... it only serves as an indicator of CBS' future. Walter Cronkite would be ashamed....

My father was the editor of the A&M paper in the early 50s. He always told me what a freedom fighter he was and how important it is to protect the Constitution. Yet when it came to Trump, he told me to ignore it and to focus on other things. Basically insinuating, I’m insane. “The ME generation“ the most spoiled generation to ever exist in the history of the world – who got homes, jobs, and success just for being white males, do not understand what fighting is. You are correct. Walt Disney wouldn’t stand for this for one second. These people would rather coddle Putin and his sick fantasies of destroying the West, cut out their families, including grandchildren….which is what has happened in my family— than to stand up for the Constitution and maybe suffer financially. Putin was right. He would appeal to their greed and they’re shallowness. And those who believe in our narcissistic culture, have fallen victim to Putin’s ideology

So while they owe me money and I’m living in my car, and they’re using Trump as an excuse not to pay me – yeah I’m pretty pissed off. When are we actually going to physically remove the corrupt Supreme Court members, Pam Bondi, Pete Hegseth-so that we can start prosecuting these people for committing treason?

I’m ready today.

"Die Luegen Presse!" (the lying press) was a constant cry of Hitler's until he became Germany's dictator on March 23, 1933. Then he just shut all opposition media (mainly print in those days), by use of the law (which he declared) or by force (the Brown Shirts --- Die Sturmabteilung). The opposition to what I call TrumpRepubloFascism (https://www.opednews.com/populum/page.php?f=The-TrumpRepubloFascist-Tr-America-Freedom-To-Fascism_Antifascism_Donald-Trump-Lies_Fascism-250130-929.html) is gradually ramping up. An acquaintance of mine (I no longer call him a friend), in his late eighty's, complained the other night that his medicare is going up 12%. I knew that he voted for trump, so I answered, you can blame trump for that. He forcefully said, "It happened BEFORE that!", meaning, it is Biden's fault! Many Americans only listen to what they want to hear! That is why this is so hard to correct!

The statement from Dopoukil gives me pause. It sounds as though he's trying to convince viewers and himself. No anchor with salt or probity would not stand this false statement but that horse left the barn a long time ago. Broadcast news is clearly dead and Murrow is still crying.

Tony Dokoupil, among other facts, has been married since 2017 to Katy Tur of MS NOW. As your volunteer copy editor, I strongly suggest you spell the guy's name right as a simple act of respect for your subject, even if you don't respect anything about CBS News and have good reason to be skeptical that Dokoupil's idealism about broadcast journalism and his good intentions in taking over the anchor spot will make a whit of difference in where CBS News is headed.

Maybe it will be a welcome surprise, he’ll be someone who knows how to navigate bullshit and call it out. I resolved this year to meet people where they are, hold judgment until it’s wrong or hopeless and to commit every fiber of my being to help take the Congress back. With allies like the Save America Movement, sharp, hard-hitting social media and truthful independent media like The Warning, we got this.

I like Katy Tur, and her program on MSNOW. She was the journalist from MSNBC, who followed trump's first run for POTUS, and she didn't mince words! She knows how trump operates, and saw the violent rallies first hand. Hopefully she has some influence on her husband, as he begins to report "the truth". His editorial sounded good, to me. We will have to wait and see. Hope stands eternal!
