After a week of chaos and corruption within the American media the executives and talent of Fox News will descend on Washington, DC, for the White House Correspondents’ dinner. There, Fox News remains unblemished and indisputably a member of the American media in good standing, according to The Washington Post, The New York Times, NBC, CBS and ABC News. It is remarkable to think about that. Everyone will be friends in DC this weekend.
There are few images that more precisely capture the wretchedness of this moment of American political and media corruption than the annual dinner that celebrates elitism, power, access and money. It has come to represent a summit of sorts that offers a gilded view from the pinnacle of America’s most out-of-touch perch. What is it that the guests think the rest of America sees?
Certainly the American people can see the increasing likelihood of Donald Trump facing Joe Biden in a rematch. They can see the obtuseness of Chief Justice John Roberts as he dithers over the ethics crisis at the Supreme Court, which is rocked daily by more revelations of profound ethical breaches. Apparently, being a Supreme Court justice puts the Oscars gifting room to shame.
Donald Trump is racking up more endorsements even as he stands civil trial for rape in Manhattan. The DeSantis campaign continues to collapse, and the Chinese continue to make aggressive moves in the South China Sea. America’s greatest demagogue has been removed from the airwaves and his replacement remains unknown.

Mother's Day is coming up. I've been reflecting on some of the wise advice my mother shared with me. One that comes to mind re: the White House Correspondents dinner: "You are known for the company you keep." As long as Fox "News" (what an oxymoron) is invited, all others would be wise to respectfully decline the invitation.
