Happy Mother's day to all. There is no greater love than a Mother's love for her children.

Slam dunk on that '2 minute Warning', Steve! Way to take down the MAGA-Idiocracy!

My mom passed away a few months ago. Thank you for your meaningful tribute to Mother's Day. Every hug, every laugh, every meal, every walk I had with my mom I hold in my heart. Happy Mother's day Barbara Schmidt and all here in The Warning community. Have a lovely day! ☺️💕

Mother's Day, a concept originally conceived of by Anna Jarvis ca. 1909 as a solemn national celebration, was scorned by its founder for rapidly become a commercial bonanza. My maternal grandmother (1906-1992) intuited--or may have known some of the history of Mother's Day. She scoffed Mother's Day and at Father's Day as pseudo-holidays "invented by the merchants." But my paternal grandmother, owner of a small-town drug store selling cards and candy, surely had a different view of things. Though I'm not a mother, I kind of like Mother's Day. When I was in my 40s, it saved me from getting a ticket from a policeman in a roadblock checking for out-of-date inspection stickers and licenses (a money maker for the state of North Carolina) "because it was Mother's Day." I just smiled and thanked him.

Just read Heather Cox Richardson's description of a different origin for yet a different kind of "Mothers' Day"--a far more inspired and inspiring bit of history. This is the history Steve cites in his article. It exposes the commercial, Hallmark "Mother's Day" as the sentimental sop it is.

Steve,

Of all the things you have written, historical documents reproduced, and videos aired about the contrasts, and urgencies in this campaign, and what we are voting for, within this communication the essence of what this campaign is all about came during the video in which Maria Shriver delivered her inspiring speech. Although powerful, meaningful and effectively delivered, the key moment started at 9:58 in the speech. Keep and eye on President Joe Biden and his compassionate and spontaneous interaction with First Lady Jill Biden.

This is what this campaign is all about, It is not about kitchen table issues, foreign policy, party, owning anybody, or age, it is about compassion, decency, and humanity, because without those things nothing else matters. Nothing else is possible. All is just a race to the cliff.

No words had to be spoken, it is all captured in this hidden moment. No speech written could say it better. Nothing could document what is coming from and is in the heart better. This is a segment that should go viral across America. If this isn’t the spark that unites us, nothing will, and all is truly lost. This could well be a Churchill and Roosevelt moment that has held the country and the world together.

What is expressed in President Joe Biden’s gesture is what this country was founded and built on and has kept it thriving and surviving, along with the rest of the world. It is something Trump and his inner circle could never begin to understand. Their hands aren’t guided by the heart, but by lust, power and the wallet. Gestures such as this don’t tell you the difference between Biden and Trump, they show you the difference.

The women of North Carolina have heard what Mark Robinson says about them: “Once you get pregnant, it is no longer your body.”

Happy Mother’s Day.

I sure do hope they have heard it, loud and clear. The implication is that the state owns the bodies of pregnant women. Ponder this.

He is an abomination to this state, in my opinion. But I appear to be in the minority in that opinion. He is popular here.

Oh my, I so loved Julia Ward Howe's proclamation, thanks! Her thoughts on war and it's futility are my own. Though I could never have formulated such a heart felt penning those thoughts, I am thankful for those with the skills - like hers and yours - to express for us our deepest feelings.

To think those words regarding war were written 150 years ago and we seem to have learned nothing in these intervening yea tors. My view is that war is an outmoded means of solving our problems, and rarely do they accomplish anything. Often they just increase enmities and cause smoldering resentments.

Steve thank you for all that you do, especially for informing us about America’s history and the sacrifices that have been made, so that we can live in freedom. Thanks for writing about Julia Ward Howe. I didn’t know anything about her until I read your work this morning. It’s just amazing to find out that her intention in creating Mother’s Day was to unite all mothers in order to stop war and promote peace. But how many Americans who don’t read the Warning know this. Not many. It’s like her idea has been erased and she’s been canceled. I guess because peace is not good for business, it doesn’t sell well. It’s kind of sad that her idea has been co-opted by the businesses that make greeting cards, chocolate, and flowers. Steve- as I was writing my comment my waitress Claudia came over to give me a coffee refill. She brought up Mother’s Day and I passed along your words about Julia Ward Howe and her work for peace. Claudia wrote her name down and thanked me for the information. Thanks again Steve for carrying on the memories of so many forgotten great Americans.

Happy Mother’s Day to all. My Mom died in 1966 when I was only 19. I think about her every day and miss her more and more as the years pass. One of my friends sent this to me: “I want to acknowledge the beautiful and complex emotions that come with celebrating a day dedicated to mothers, especially for those who have lost their beloved moms. It's a day filled with heartache, joy, and sadness, all intertwined in a delicate dance of remembrance and gratitude.

For those who carry the heartache of a deceased mother, this day can be a poignant reminder of the void that remains. Their absence is deeply felt, and the ache can be overwhelming.

So, on this Mother's Day, let us hold space for all the heartache, joy, and sadness that exists within this celebration. May we find solace in our memories, strength in our connections, and gratitude for the love that continues to live on, even in the absence of our mothers.

Happy Mother's Day to all, in every form that love takes.”

Best wishes and many blessings to us all.

"We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies". Would that all American women embrace this as holy writ in a united battle cry to respond to MAGA's authoritarian repressions to keep women in "their place". Enough women united in effort could stymie MAGA's pounding advancements, and in so doing, secure meaningful separation from this ancient and arcane binding. By my lights, women alone can save us from this looming tyranny.
