All of it was predictable from the governing record. The question Schmidt is really asking... and it's the right one... is whether the electoral consequences will follow the policy consequences, or whether the information architecture has become sufficiently distorted that they no longer reliably connect. The redistricting, Gerrymandering, good old fashioned cheating and the American Gestapo / SS ( ICE, DHS ) can all thwart our American birthright.
That birthright is our vote. We vote in who we feel has the best thinking, leadership and policies. And, after a proscribed limited time or if we ( the people ) determine their actions and policies are terrible? We vote them out.

The northern states had few slaves and more population than the southern states which had more slaves and less population.
