Anatomy of a lie

The 27-year-old White House press secretary often dons a conspicuous cross, while lying to the American people on behalf of Donald Trump. Married to a 60-year-old MAGA-loving real estate developer, the strident Karoline Leavitt has disgraced herself from her very first utterance behind a podium, where she speaks without credibility, tact or grace on all things, all the time.

Let’s look at this dishonest paragraph from The Wrap, which purports to cover the entertainment and media industries:

Here is how The Wrap covered what Nicolle Wallace said on Tuesday night during Donald Trump’s meandering, nonsensical and venomous address to the nation on Tuesday night:

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Wednesday ripped MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace for “disgustingly” tying a 13-year-old cancer survivor who was honored by President Trump to the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot.

On Tuesday night, the president made Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel — who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018 — an honorary Secret Service agent during his speech before Congress; Daniel was cheered by Republicans and saluted by the president as his dad lifted him into the air.

On MSNBC following the speech, Wallace implied that she hoped Daniels did not kill himself like some officers who responded to the Capitol Riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

The headline was even worse:

Here is what Nicolle Wallace said:

I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide.

No truer words have ever been spoken and they scalded Trump, who hit back from the Oval Office where he fixated on America’s real threat — Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow — while suckling Putin, ceasing American food aid, AIDS and malaria relief, assailing Canada, threatening Denmark and obliterating the scientific research that saved young Daniels’ life.

Here is what Trump said:

Worse than CNN is ‘MS-DNC,’ which is the worst. And the good news is very few people watch them anymore.

They have lost such credibility; and, frankly, what Nicolle Wallace said — I’ve never been a fan of hers, and she’s not very talented — but I’ll tell you, what she said the other day about that young man is disgraceful. She should be forced to resign,” he added.

He is weak, thin-skinned, brittle and failing.

Yet, surrounded by sycophants, zealots, extremists and multitudes of weirdos Donald Trump is constantly aggrandized, puffed up and told things like he has been “saved by God to make America great again.” It is all nonsense of course, but Trump believes every word and cannot refrain from repeating what he is told.

Donald Trump’s address to Congress was a circus event. He used sympathetic people with inspiring and tragic stories to advance his political agenda.

The speech was political. Every detail of it was planned through a political lens. Every detail. Handing a badge to DJ Daniels was not about making a young man happy, though he was. It was a stunt aimed at making a bad man look compassionate. Nicolle Wallace called it out because, in the main, what Donald Trump did wasn’t a mitzvah, but rather an aggression against reality and the truth.

Donald Trump’s stunt took place in the exact same spot that his mob attacked hundreds of police officers — maiming, injuring and killing.

Propaganda is evil, and it must be called out.

While Donald Trump was speaking children are starving to death in some of the poorest places in the world, while American food aid sits rotting on shelves.

While Donald Trump was speaking generational scientific studies, scientific research and medical studies were being cancelled.

While it is true that Donald Trump handed a badge to a boy and named a wildlife preserve for a beautiful young girl murdered by animals it is also true that when his words and actions are fully considered that the main news of the evening was his handing out death sentences to people all over the world, including in America.

Let me take you back to 1938 to examine the reality of what we are talking about.

Inside the magazine are two stories placed next to one another.

The first photos showing the violence that was unleashed by the Nazi state after the assassination of a Nazi diplomat in Paris by a Jewish refugee appear in this edition.

Here are some of the photos:

The rampage stoked by Goebbels and his Ministry of Propaganda and Public Enlightenment burned hundreds of synagogues, and made clear that time that was running out for Germany’s Jews.

In the moment, it revolted Americans, but it was not yet clear what was coming.

They were the first pictures published of the pogrom unleashed across Germany on November 9-10, 1938.

History recalls these events as the “night of the broken glass” (Kristallnacht).

The next story is a function of, unfortunately, immaculate timing.

They show Adolf Hitler and Herman Goering working the church crowd at the christening of Goering’s niece.

They look happy and are presented benignly:

Both events were real, but which one was true?

This is Nicolle Wallace’s high crime against MAGA.

She looked at the images, and commented on the truth at hand, which was unseen like shattered Jewish lives were unseen in the church, where the kindly Uncle Adolf and Uncle Hermann smiled sweetly at the children and made them happy.

Nicolle Wallace pierced the veil of MAGA propaganda, and the price has come due.

The price for telling the truth is the cost of feral intimidation and an attack by Trump’s winged monkeys in the right-wing media, who serve a single purpose and cause: Trump.

The rule is simple. America is being '“made great again,” and unless you are a celebrant of the greatness then you are an enemy of Trump and MAGA. You will face abuse, retaliation and harassment.

Nicolle Wallace is a person of conviction and integrity, who told the truth about a staged moment by a sinister man at a profound moment of danger in the world and in this country.

She has my deepest respect because she will not be quiet.

I’ve never been prouder to call her a friend. For the record, I endorse what she said.

I hope that young man never faces what Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone did.

I hope he lives a long life in peace.

I hope he understands that the person who was fighting for him on Tuesday night was not the man who gave him an honorary badge. It was the person who had the guts to tell the American people the truth about what was happening.

Now, the world knows everything that happened after that edition of Life magazine was published.

Everything.

The next year on September 1, 1939 Adolf Hitler invaded Poland, and the first image of a Nazi soldier in Poland appeared first in Life magazine.

Adolf Hitler said Poland invaded Germany just like Vladimir Putin would claim 75 years later that Ukraine had invaded Russia.

Donald Trump is an American president who has taken the position that would have held if applied to Hitler — that it was Poland who instigated the war, and unless it accepted annihilation, then it would be an obstacle to peace.

When Donald Trump berated President Zelensky on global television he conducted himself in precisely the same manner Adolf Hitler did when shaking down the Austrian prime minister in the Berghof in 1938.

What is happening in America today is happening. It is real, and it is not be benign.

A great crisis is at hand. The truth-tellers like Nicolle Wallace will face abuse from the low men of a lower movement that seeks to take a precious thing from all of us.

Nicolle Wallace had limited patience for the theater of the absurd that the nation witnessed.

She demonstrated that Donald Trump can be hit and hurt with the truth. It is why they have reacted like scalded rats.
