So many great candidates! But I have to go with Mitch McConnell as most despicable bc most destructive.

The list is endless.

Susan Sarandon, who said not voting for "that woman" would "speed the revolution" and "the Supreme Court doesn't matter" in 2016.

The Berners in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan who had to "vote their conscience" and write in Bernie despite his pleading with them not to, in numbers that exceeded Trump's margin of victory in those three crucial states.

But the real architect of all this fakakte since the Republicans were allowed to take control of redistricting as a result of the 2010 election that saw the Democrats lose their majorities in state legislatures (down from 27 to 14) while the Republicans ended up in control of 26, the man who made sure that the past 12 years of crap was guaranteed, is....

Drumroll...

Rahm Pissant Emmanuel, the braindead moron who - as soon as Obama made him WH Chief of Staff in January 2009 - fired Howard Dean, whose 50-state strategy while chairman of the DNC was responsible for the 2008 victory that gave Democrats 60 Senate seats and a strong House majority (thus allowing Obamacare to happen), in favor of the losing strategy of "concentrating on winnable races only." Then went on to deactivate Obama For America, denying the Democrats the effective grassroots organization that could have countered the astroturf "Tea Party." Emmanuel's place on top of the list is closely followed by every left wing Democrat who got "disappointed" by Obama's "failure to deliver" and give them ponies and rainbows, who stayed home in November 2010 and gave the Republicans their victory by default.

Every Democrat who's "upset" by the way things are nowadays need only ask themself: "Did you vote in 2010?" If the answer is "No," YOU ARE THE CAUSE OF YOUR DISCONTENT.

And unfortunately, too many of the Dimocratic Wrong are ready to throw in the towel now on December, guaranteeing the end of the republic in 2024.

I say the above as a lifelong Democrat who used to think my home was "somewhere on the left."

In my book, at first I thought it was a tie between McConnell and McCarthy; but since McConnell had way more power than McCarthy and had a golden opportunity to rid our nation of the grifter, and was mealy mouthed and hypocritical at the conclusion of his second impeachment trial, he wins as the greatest and most despicable cowards. In third place are any ten gop senators who voted to acquit the grifter.

I nominate the TRAINED police officers who stood around a hallway and listened to shots fired inside a 4th grade classroom. They waited (cowered?) for 70+ minutes; 19 children, 2 adults died. Don’t watch the footage - I found myself screaming, “Oh my god, get in there! Stop the slaughter! Do something!”

I am 66 years old. The last ten years have proven that our generation has led the way in not just letting bad actors act, but in participating with them. What the hell happened? Seperation of church and state has been ignored- Corporations are considered people- normal Americans are diminished to mere labor poole. We’re also the genrration given the most opportunity, who acquired the most in human rights, including abortion rights, and gay marriage- we let our religions be hi-jacked and the likes of Mitch McConnel take over the leadership that sought to demolish those rights- and are succeeding in doing just that. We must bond with our younger citizens and seek the freedoms, no insist that our freedoms remain or be reinstated- If we dare ignore this, we will die having failed in life. The Putins of the world will have won. Make no mistake they are the same. This war on human rights/American Rights, will continue untill we call them out and oust each and every one of them. To name just one is blasphemy to the cause of keeping our democracy functioning and our freedoms in tact. Jan 6 Comm. Has ignored the likes of Ginni Thomas, daring nit to rock the boat her husband so irreverently rests in- again -they must all be ousted. Any ignoring will net to less and less freedom- The oligarchs, the corporations and the churches of hate, will win. How do we stand up and fight this horror? We start by disassembling their Cabal, by stopping them all, one by one. God Save our Country.

All good names, but maybe I have to go with Rupert Murdoch, the father of Fox News.

The ones we don't immediately think of.

Certainly Mitch and Kevin, but also the "sane" House members and Senators who didn't play lickspittles but remained silent.

Ben Sasse.

Jon Cornyn.

Tom Barrasso.

John Thune.

Tim Scott.

Jim Lankford.

Roy Blunt.

They knew but did nothing. They could have confronted Mitch early on and said Basta!

Same in the House.

There were some rational Republicans over there but they just stayed silent or quit and grabbed gigs on the cables.

They knew and they did nothing.

They're more guilty than the doofuses like Hawley and Cruz who live to smell the scent of the TV kleiglights.

The real traitors are the ones who could have stopped the cancer at stage one.

McConnell comes to mind. So many in contention. I also think we have a lot of people who are fearful of speaking out against the Trump-ublicans for fear of reprisals when the House and Senate (most likely) flip. Fearful of being on the list of pro-democracy. Sad. I know I’ve many fewer ‘followers’ on FB. I post truths. I share facts. I beg for people to visit, write, call, email their elected officials to share their fears and make clear their vote will not be cast for any who do not support democracy. I beg them to just get out there and vote at every election, whether local, state or national. I rarely get a comment. It’s like I post to a vast void. I fear their apathy. I fear their ignorance. I fear their cowardice. Not wanting to get political is not an excuse. This is not the time to stand by and ‘not hurt people’s feelings.’ The vast majority of this country’s citizenry are not paying attention. They have no clue what is occurring. None. Or they believe it is beyond their ability to effect. I no longer trust my ability to assess character. Many who I formerly thought of as clear thinkers or made of sturdy stuff just aren’t. We live in a country overrun by ostriches.

I'm taking my picks local. The membership of my old despicable country club that I was ostracized from a few years ago. These "men" would dress up in MAGA gear to play and intimidate me and the other 5 ex-members who had to leave.

Conversely, I will continue to champion people who had the guts to stand up for what is right, even to their own perils of lost friends, family, and business.

To anyone who says we have to maintain friendships and still talk to them... I did that for 40 years. If you want these craven assholes to have friends, you can have my old ones. I have never felt so disgusted and free in all my life.

Most despicable is Mitch McConnell, who refused to allow Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court to even be considered in the Judiciary Committee or reported to the full Senate for a vote. McConnell said he told President Obama: "Mr. President, you will not get a Supreme Court Justice this year." McConnell himself said he made this statement to Obama, so McConnell cannot now claim it is fake news. Furthermo;re, McConnell and the Republicans have blocked every effort to reform voting laws or to even consider any proposed Senate legislation on the right to vote. History will remember him as a small-minded obstructionist who used his power as Senate majority leader to prevent legislation to improve our representative democracy and to recognize the rights of ALL citizens to vote.

My personal belief is that it's not 'courage' per se. Rather, it is a lack of understanding what leadership means---as opposed to gaining an employment position.

Leadership means leading the way, standing upon one's principles, committing to his oath and not allowing the tail to wag the dog.

Leadership is NOT hanging on to it by compromise, obsequious behavior, deriding others, cheating, lying, and betrayal.

"A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a model of consensus." --Martin Luther King, Jr.

To answer your question, it's not "who" will be remembered, they'll all be remembered as the greatest and most despicable cowards --- unless, of course, humans have officially entered devolution.

My first concern in answering this question is, who will be writing the history? If democracy falls to autocracy in the next few years, the history books will venerate McConnell, McCarthy, Barr, and the rest.

I believe that this has been a multi-decade effort to consolidate power on the GOP side by the ultra rich. From that belief, I see Rupert Murdoch as a lynchpin in this effort.

Near history must cite McConnell, McCarthy, Jordan, Gaetz, and the rest who voted against impeachment as fully culpable for this debacle.

If in 2000 Ralph Nader had had the courage to swallow his self-righteous ego and know that by running a race he couldn’t win but would cause Gore’s defeat, the situations of this country and of our future on this planet would be a lot more secure and agreeable than they are likely to be. All Ralph Nader had to do was keep being a useful moral scold and sermonizer. But he wanted to turn himself into a candidate. So here we are, because one man lacked the courage to be humble enough to stand aside.

Because he knew how bad Donald Trump would be for our country, and said so. But instead of standing in opposition, in the end he embraced every awful thing Donald Trump did or said. A most despicable coward indeed.
