Thank you Dr. Mary M. Marshall, Grace Alexandra Hayden, Jake Zuppa, Nancy McAllister, Leah Anderson, and many others for tuning into my conversation with Steven Beschloss.
The majority of people in the country are not feeling the effects of these new laws, executive orders, do not know about the military or national guards, innocent people disappearing, or the destruction of the very fiber of our society.
It’s because of the News sources they watch. Fox has done immeasurable damage since 1996. Others have sprung up like Newsmax. Others get their news from podcasts. I just don’t know how we reach these people.
that EVERY AMERICAN is complicit in watching Democracy being
stolen from them
This is how deep the rot, the self-interests, the selfishness, the obsession with money money money, the idea that Americans take for granted that their freedom will never
really be taken away from them has become so embedded in their idea of themselves
Americans are completely numb and desensitized to what is being done to them
The rot, the immorality, and incompetence of Trump's MAGA regime were made clear in the decision to destroy the Venezuelan boat in the Caribbean Sea. Venezuela maintains the image of the airstrike on the boat was a fake, AI generated, and that may well be. It is also possible that Trump and Hegseth's Dept. of "make" War did destroy the boat. However, smuggling, even drugs, is a crime, not an act of war. As in the case of Trump's deportations, the victims were summarily punished without due process, i.e. no chance to defend themselves. As was pointed out in today's Warning discussion, the boat was too small to make it to Amerca's shore. These tiny men think they look tough by ordering this airstrike or producing a fake video of such a strike. Either way they proved they are rotten, immoral, and incompetent.
There is so much that you have talked about. So much regret at so many levels.
I blame Biden only for cannonizing Kamala as the candidate. Yes, Garland should have had the balls to prosecute Trump.
So many of MAGA only listen to FOX or Newsmax or Alex Jones, or all other right wing media.
They won't listen to any other media, just like I won't listen to right wing media.
I don't even listen to MSM anymore. Haven't watched ABC,CBS, NBC news in months.
Their normalizing of all that is going is a travesty to the news anchors of yester year who spoke the truth, and were not afraid to do so.
A lot of people don't make time to listen to the dangers going on. Their lives are busy and so many are tired of listening to old white men on both sides who are not willing to change.
Don't forget Comey, who as FBI director announced a reopening of the email probe into Hillary Clinton 11 days before the 2016 election, which many considered a violation of the Hatch Act, which prohibits high-level government employees from engaging in partisan political activity.
Let's blame McConnell -- he could have stopped this dead. He did not. But, a real fear, is that like so many of the people in China, they accommodate to a life that isn't so bad. Until Americans experience for themselves some of this regime's decisions, e.g., no jobs, continued inflation, etc., Americans may adapt. That's my fear.
“I think this is the most dangerous period since before World War II. There’s certain similarities right now to the ’30s,” the former Senate leader warned.
McConnell explained he’s concerned about Trump’s tariffs and the similarities to the economic state of the ’30s leading into World War II.
“Herbert Hoover signed the Smoot-Hawley tariff bill in 1930, widely believed by historians and economists to have taken the depression worldwide. Those who were totally anxious to stay out of all of what was going on in Europe were called ‘America First.’ Sound familiar?” he said.
The senator named North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran as very different countries that should be concerning because they have one thing in common: “They hate us.”
“So what do we have today? North Korea, China, Russia, Iran and Iran’s proxies. They’re very different kinds of countries, but they have one thing in common: They hate us,” he said. “So, when you talk about preparedness, we’re not prepared like we should be.”
He added that the United States needs to avoid a “headline” in Ukraine that could motivate other countries that “hate” us.
“What we need to do is avoid the headline at the end of the war, ‘Russia wins, America loses.’ It has huge worldwide implications, and for those who are concerned about the money, I think it’s important to remember that about half of the money was spent in this country, including in Kentucky,” he said.
There is another no kings protest October 18. We better make sure that there are just as many people or twice as many people that’s our job right now. They really screwed up and not repeating the no king sooner but they finally figured it out apparently.
Until the democrats do a thorough inventory of all the devastating mistakes they made that lead to Trump winning a second term we are left twisting in the wind of the hurricane of his second administration. Full stop. Accountability is required for the democratic party to leave behind their business as usual approach and truly meet the current moment. They are utterly failing in this regard and I for one hold them responsible.
I tuned in live and it was one of your “best” interviews yet. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Informative, insightful, and fascinating points of view. You both enlighten current events with historical context which I find brilliant and somehow comforting. Thank you!
Thank you for this important interview, Steve and Steven.
What strikes me in my everyday life is that so many people go about their everyday business without being worried or informed. They can't be bothered to get involved or to get upset. So the rest of us carry an extra load.
What I have trouble balancing is going about my own life in a healthy way where the stress and worry don't cause BP to rise or cause me to want to jump off a cliff. How do we enjoy our lives as much as we can, because we are still alive and I believe must honor the sacredness of those lives -- and yet remain involved and informed?
I know I can't do it alone, which is why I appreciate this Substack.
I'm so deeply troubled by the insouciance and indifference because they can't handle the truth, the horror, the nightmares, and don't want to know. And think they aren't affected.
Because none of us gets out of this alive, not even those who think they are above morality. Let alone morality.
All should be accountable, whether Democrat, Republican or independent for abusing children who were not in a position to object or defend themselves. If that tears on people that we have previously thought to be leaders, that is the consequence, I speak as a former state prosecutor and trial court judge.
I"m 82 -- just living this long does not make one automatically wise at all... I called MTG office -- said I disagreed with her on everything, hated her positions, thought she was crazy BUT on this one thing she was right on, and I hope she will make that list public if she gets her hands on it...
I cannot stand that Schumer is in the position he’s in … he is an ineffectual idiot - I just can’t I cannot I do not understand- why dear God in Hell are the Dems so so useless … I blame Biden I blame all of them - we have no leadership- and I am no longer a Democrat- oh my god and AG Garland - what a disaster a disgrace. I am sickened by it all.
When Biden nominated Garland for AG, I thought that was great because a man who had been denied a confirmation hearing in the Senate by Bitch McConnell would surely go after Trump, the most unscrupulous man ever elected president. His timidity is another reason we are in this terrible place.
Actually when Obama nominated him and he became all emo in the white house accepting the nomination I thought he was a terrible choice, milk toast at best.
I don't believe being able to express your emotions makes a person a milque toast. However, his failure to use his power to go after Trump does make him a milque toast.
Obama nominated Garland for the Supreme Court and Bitch McConnell denied him a confirmation hearing because the next presidential election was "only" nine months away; Biden chose him as his AG.
The majority of people in the country are not feeling the effects of these new laws, executive orders, do not know about the military or national guards, innocent people disappearing, or the destruction of the very fiber of our society.
Those of us paying attention, are worried sick.
It’s because of the News sources they watch. Fox has done immeasurable damage since 1996. Others have sprung up like Newsmax. Others get their news from podcasts. I just don’t know how we reach these people.
I'm trying somewhat to let people know on Facebook, but basically those posts are out of the algorithm.
America is in a complete state of denial.
AMERICA IS AT WARRRRRRR
And NO ONE wants to do anything....it is a coup

Tiny tiny men indeed, decrepit demented degrading denegrating dictatorial and dickless.
Rotten, immoral, and incompetent, and utterly without worth.

Exactly Anthony. He may have done more than anyone to doom this country to what we have to endure today.
And that reason why, has never been investigated nor revealed.
Thanks for reminding us of this long forgotten event, which definitely helped get us to the first Trump election and set the tone for the future
A pedophile is a pedophile regardless of party. They all need to be exposed.

Listen to Bitch McConnell today:

McConnell is a detestable man who put party and political ambition over our country.
We should’ve been picketing Merrick Garland from the very moment he took office

Great conversation!
Good morning Stevens!
All should be accountable, whether Democrat, Republican or independent for abusing children who were not in a position to object or defend themselves. If that tears on people that we have previously thought to be leaders, that is the consequence, I speak as a former state prosecutor and trial court judge.
Thank you John. The can has been kicked down the road for too many decades. And the buck stops nowhere, forgive the mixed metaphors.
I"m 82 -- just living this long does not make one automatically wise at all... I called MTG office -- said I disagreed with her on everything, hated her positions, thought she was crazy BUT on this one thing she was right on, and I hope she will make that list public if she gets her hands on it...
I need to do that today as well. Thank you for doing this and for the reminder!
Absolutely I'm willing for Democrats and Republicans alike involve with Epstein to be exposed.
