Thanks for that quote. President Grant saw the future with amazing clarity, not through any psychic or supernatural power but by sound and deep analysis of the world around him; the quote is so sadly applicable to today's deeply dysfunctional America.

A bit of really weird irony I have been thinking about lately has been about the orange imbecile’s comments about “ shithole “ nations and their people coming here to the US.

The statue of liberty is in NY. The orange imbecile is from NY. The statue of liberty was the first glimpse of a new homeland for many immigrants in the late 19th and 20th centuries. His very own grandparents probably saw her as their first sighting of the US ( the Drumpfs ). Lady Liberty has a plaque with the lines:

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Ironic that the orange imbecile can’t read and, even if he could read this poem would be 100% lost to him. He wouldn’t be able to make the connection of wretched refuse, homeless, tempest-tost . Ironic that he grew up and lived so close to Lady Liberty and never understood her meaning. His words prove that without question.

He could possibly understand the golden door part however as he has many at Mar-a-lago and now all the golden bathrooms at the White House too. Gold for me, he says, not for you. Now, get back to your shithole before Lady Liberty burns you with her lamp.

While Trump pretends to be an American patriot, his real allegiance is with Vladimir Putin and for the welfare of Soviet Union. Don't believe what Trump says. Watch what he does. We need to take back the power. Subordinating America to Russia cannot be left undone for too long. MAGA or not you are doomed if we have to salute to Putin like what Trump did in Alaska.

Reading that speech made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. And reading Trump’s words about wanting immigrants from “white” countries like Sweden and Norway…does he honestly believe that folks from Scandinavian countries, just a generation or two removed from the Second World war, Hitler,and the horror of Nazism, would consider coming here to live?

"These guys" may or may not have been smuggling drugs. The boat should have been stopped and searched for drugs. If any were found, all on board were entitled to due process. Smuggling drugs is not an act of war, no matter what the belligerent greedy fool in the WH claims.

Megyn would not need to "gin up" sympathy if she had either common sense or a heart, Her statement is profoundly unAmerican. Has she ever heard of the 8th amendment?

She talks like a silly middle school student, starting her sentence with "like." She is a pathetic and disgusting person.

I know we cannot mistake a collapse in approval with a collapse of power. There is still the matter of all three branches of the national government being controlled by MAGA and the tech bros controlling much of the media landscape. Stil, it seems that ignorance, greed and hubris are eroding power along with the collapsing approval.

Yesterday’s vote in the Indiana Senate speaks loudly to the changing tone. A significant majority of Indiana’s Republican senators voted against Trump’s demand for a mid-decennial redistributing. They were offended repeatedly by Trump’s heavy handed tactics, repulsed by his language, and in the end, responded “Hell no!” to his threat to withhold federal funding if they failed to do his bidding.

What’s important is that leaders, both internationally and now domestically, have grown to recognize Trump for what he is: a weak and ignorant bully. And we all know the best response to a bully.

I read things like this and it sends shivers down my spine. How can people be so blind to Trump as Hitler 2.0? I graduated a shitty High School in the 1970s and between bong tokes and trouble with the authorities I learned about Hitler. My Grandfathers both served in WWII. One was injured and both came backed changed according to my grandmothers not to mention addicted to cigarettes which eventually killed them both.

Through the decades I’ve watched WWII movies, Hogans Heroes, even read a book or two. Words like Fascism, Third Reich, Blitzkrieg, Holocaust, Gas Chamber, Victory Day etc has ever been present in one form or another. I went college in my 30s and had to endure 5 college level History classes. The rise of Hitler and The Third Reich was front and center. I know I’m not alone in my exposure to and knowledge of the horrors of fascism. Yet, many of my fellow citizens in America seen blind to what’s happening right now right here in America!? WTF? Do tanks need to be parked on the front yard before they say, Oh Shit! It’s mind boggling and it makes me want to grab my shit and get the hell out of here before it all blows up. That’s exactly where this MAGA Bullshit is headed. Major bloodshed in our streets. Every time I see an ICE raid and some poor soul being man-handled by thugs I want to grab my Grandad’s M1 and open fire on those fuckers. Eventually, the ability to use restraint and language will end and those fuckers are going to be slaughtered, butchered and lit on fire and dragged through our streets with a big “Fuck You,Trump!” sign hung on them. Part of me wants that now and I’m old and gimpy. I’ll be taken out within seconds and god damn it I don’t give a shit.

I think if Megan knew that half the country would like for her, Trump, Hegseth, Miller, Noem and I could go on …to suffer a lot, like lose a limb and bleed out or even better get blown up in one of those boats, she would keep her mouth shut! There is no surprise that Trump's strategy has been exactly that of Hitler's. The press has not had the guts to tell the truth, nor for that matter have prominent Americans. Miller is the embodiment of Goebbles. That millions believe his recitation of their perceived grievances is no surprise for it is easier for them to blame those different from them for their problems.

The lead about Kelley tells me that she and her cohort are desperate for attention and acceptance, but of course it is no less hideous. That Trump is openly racist and xenophobic in his rant in PA is also no surprise because he is desperate for approval and his formula got him to where he is now. We have become a nation of cowards or maybe always were, but we must stand against fascism with everyone we meet and not be cowed to ignore the horror. I no longer care if the word fascism or Nazism offends magas.

The parallels in corporate industrial backing, hatred, warlike ambition of less-than-competent military leaders, propensity to lie, economic insecurity, and overt blaming racism cannot be ignored.

People have been shouting “Nazi” for so long that it is seen as a wolf-cry, a lose-the-argument-if-you-bring-it-up catchphrase.

Elie Mystal over at the Nation(https://bit.ly/3MXnczZ) has started an online publication which addresses a much needed candid look at this rogue conservative SCOTUS In a preview article Mystal reviews the recent Emil Bove suck up performance at Cheeto’s Pennsylvania casino rally The question is raised what a recently appointed federal judge on the 3rd Circuit would be doing at a political rally

Mystal has long been advocating for an expansion of SCOTUS after the Mitch McConnell shenanigans put two conservative Federalist recommended judges on the Court leading to a lopsided partisan judicial politic In arguing the case Mystal makes the cogent point that expansion would lead to a partisan expansion where future elected administrations would simply continue to expand based on which party was in power The appropriate response would be “that’s just fine because it would dilute the power of these SCOTUS judges”

As Thomas gets ready to take his motor home into the sky and Alito retires to his upside down flag house at the beach, Cheeto is hoping Bove will be front and center on his list to fill those vacancies All the more reason to expand this partisan money backed court

Thank you for the history lesson, again. Humans, and animals in general, sure do have a way to repeat actions even if those actions set them up for failure. One would think that avoiding a bad or deadly outcome would change the behavior even when a lifetime of such behavior has not led to success, growth or improvement. Most of our actions lead to success because that’s what we are all seeking. But eventually we take the risk and suffer the consequences despite our learning. I think we, as a society, are doomed. Yet, in our own lifetimes, we will survive just long enough. We just need to balance the collective losses among the collective successes and try not to lose all at once.

There's a push-pull going on now. The push of the regime, the pull of their fortunes. What is also going on is the push-pull of the resistance. The push against the regime, the pull of growing successes. Despite the 77+ million Trump voters (which I'm sure by now would only be in the 30-40 million range, so much remorse, so little time) MAGA is not American. They are creatures of a deeply paranoid, aggrieved cult. And they can't break through or return to what a patriot really is because Trump and the media echo systems keep whipping them into a froth of lies and hatred. When he is gone, it will be like turning the heat off a boiling pot: it will take some time to cool down, but eventually it becomes room temperature. We are at an inflection point. The midterms will sweep new sheriffs into town and in addition to the so very badly needed push back and accountability, I pray that our world allies take note that America has come to its senses and will fight like hell to stay that way. Just give us a chance to renew, rebuild, recover, reform. We will then and only then, be great again.
